5441. From Ancient India To A New York Auction House, Unfinished Journey Of The Parvati Statue
- An idol of Goddess Parvati belonging to the Nandanapureshwarar Sivan temple in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, was traced to the Bonhams auction house in New York. The Idol Wing of the Crime Investigation Department of Tamil Nadu, revealed its findings on the 8th of August.
- The statue, nearly 2 feet long, made of a Copper alloy, belongs to the Chola time period. Its present day value is estimated to be at Rs. 1.7 crores. The Chola empire prominently lasted from about 850 CE to 1279 CE. The Cholas were Shaivite rulers who ruled over most of modern day Tamil Nadu, parts of Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala.
- The discovery was made by Idol Wing inspector M. Chitra who traced it to New York after extensively going through idols of Goddess Parvati, which were listed for sale or display, across the world in museums and in artefact galleries.
- The discovery of the idol comes amid an extensive spate of such discoveries of ancient and mediaeval artwork stolen from India. In June 2022, 10 idols were returned to Tamil Nadu by the Centre after the stolen artefacts were traced and retrieved from various auction houses and museums from across the world. Along with Egypt and Italy, India is the leading country from where ancient cultural artefacts are stolen.

5442. आराजक तत्वों ने माहौल खराब करने की कोशिश की, काली माता मंदिर की प्रतिमा को किया खंडित
- मीरपुर में आज कुछ आराजक तत्वों ने माहौल खराब करने की नियत से प्रतिमा को खंडित किया है, जिससे गाँव के लोगों में रोष है तो वहीँ सूचना पर तमाम हिन्दू संगठन के लोग भी पहुंचे हुए थे, जिन्होंने मुकदमा दर्ज कर आरोपी को गिरफ्तार करने की बात कही है, पुलिस द्वारा कार्यवाही ना करने पर आन्दोलन की चेतावनी भी दी है।
- मंदिर में मूर्ती को खंडित करने का यह मामला सुमेरपुर थाना क्षेत्र में सिमनौडी गाँव का है, यहाँ गाँव में काली माता के मंदिर में स्थापित प्रतिमा को किन्ही अराजक तत्वों ने हथोड़े से तोड़ते हुए खंडित कर दिया है। आराजक तत्वों द्वारा किये गए इस करती से गाँव के लोगों में रोष है, ग्रामीणों ने इसकी सूचना सुमेरपुर थाना पुलिस को दे दी थी, जिसपर पुलिस ने मौके पर पहुँच कर जांच पड़ताल की है, और आरोपी की गुराफ्तारी की बात कही है।
- मंदिर में प्रतिमा तोड़े जाने की सूचना पर तमाम हिन्दू संगठन के लोग मौके पर पहुंचे हुए थे, जिन्होंने पुलिस से मांग की है की मुकदमा दर्ज करते हुए आरोपी को गिरफ्तार किया जाए। भगवा रक्षक दल के आशीष सिंह का कहना है अगर वक़्त रहते पुलिस ने मुकदमा दर्ज कर आरोपी को गिरफ्तार नहीं किया तो यह लोग आन्दोलन करेंगे। इस मामले में सुमेरपुर थाना पुलिस का कहना है मामले की जांच की जा रही है वैधानिक कार्यवाही की जायेगी।

5443. World's only 'Brahma' temple in Pushkar is in very dilapidated condition, no response from ASI
- The condition of the world's only Brahma temple located in Pushkar, Rajasthan, has deteriorated and this invaluable heritage can be demolished anytime.
- his ancient temple of Lord Brahma is peeking at the way to repair and rebuild. There have been many cracks in the original structure of the temple and it has broken from many places.
- Many devotees from all over the country and the world come here, but they are sad to see the poor condition here. The floor has also caved in from many places in the temple.
- Sukhram Bhinder, secretary of the temple committee and SDM, while talking to the media, has said that he has written several letters to the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India), but there is no response. He said that no work can be done here without the permission of ASI.

5444. Telangana's Ramappa Temple Adorned In Tricolour Ahead Of Event
- At a time when illuminating heritage monuments have now become the talk of the town, the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ramappa Temple, also known as the Rudreshwara temple in the state of Telangana has been beautifully illuminated in the colours of the national flag. This marks the Centre's Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav which has been taken up by the government to commemorate the celebrations for India's 75th Independence Day.
- The temple which is located 15 km from Mulugu, 66 km from Warangal, and 209 km from Hyderabad is a Kakatiya-style Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in Telangana.
- It is pertinent to note that several state governments have taken up the bid to illuminate historical monuments to celebrate the country's 75th Independence Day. Earlier, the Delhi government had also said that five major monuments across the city would light up in the colours of the national flag to mark the historical day.

5445. FIR against temple authorities, says police
- An FIR has been registered against office-bearers of Khatu Shyam Ji temple committee over the death of three women during a stampede outside the temple when people waiting in queues tried to rush in as its doors opened in the early hours
- The case was registered against temple committee president Shambhu Singh Chauhan, secretary Shyam Singh Chauhan, treasurer Kalu Singh, and Pratap Singh Chauhan and Bhawani Singh Chauhan under IPC section 304-A (causing death by negligence) on a complaint by a local resident Ramdev Singh Khokhar, they said.
- The complainant held the accused responsible for the incident, saying the temple authorities failed to ensure adequate security at its premises and their mismanagement led to the loss of three lives. Three women identified as Shanti Devi, Maya Devi and Kripa Devi were killed in the stampede in the early hours of Monday.

5446. Corporation stops temple demolition as devotees, Hindu organisations protest, devotees move to High Court to save the temple
- The Coimbatore Corporation stopped the demolition of a temple located on the Veeriyampalayam Road near Ramalakshmi Nagar in the city after the Hindu organizations and devotees led a strong protest against the corporation officials. The protesters raised slogans and chanted ‘Om Namah Shivay’ as the Corporation attempted to execute the demolition.
- The High Court in June had ordered the demolition of the temple citing the reason that it was encroaching upon 50 feet wide road. The Court was hearing the petition filed by an individual who owns a commercial complex.
- As the Corporation attempted to demolish the temple, a large number of devotees, members of Hindu organizations like VHP and Hindu Munnani, and also BJP members gathered around the temple to protest against the demolition move

5447. Thief bows to Goddess idol before stealing temple donation box in MP
- A CCTV footage of the theft from a Goddess temple in Jabalpur of Madhya Pradesh has become a hot topic of discussion on social media...
- The thief like any other had come to steal donation boxes from the temple, caught on CCTV, interestingly bowed to the Goddess before committing the theft
- In the viral video, the thief can be seen bowing before the idol of the goddess with folded hands and then goes on to steal the donation boxes and other valuables from the temple. Police are looking for the thief with the help of CCTV footage.
- This video is being shared on all the platforms of social media. The thief first bowed and then stole three donation boxes from the temple.

5448. 12th Century idol stolen from temple found in US after 50 years
- A statue that was stolen in 1971 from a temple in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu has been traced to New York. The 12th Century idol of Hindu goddess Parvati was found at the Bonhams Auction House.
- A senior police official said the Tamil Nadu police's Idol Wing has "readied papers" to bring the idol back.
- Over the past few years, India has amplified efforts to bring back idols and other artefacts which were stolen or smuggled from temples.
- In 2020, the UK returned three bronze sculptures stolen from a Tamil Nadu temple more than 40 years ago to the Indian government.
- One of the most stunning pieces returned in the past few years was a bronze Nataraja idol, which shows the Hindu god Shiva in dancing form. The statue, which was priced at $5.1m (£4.2m), was more than 900 years old and had been bought by the National Gallery of Australia in 2008.

5449. Grand Hindu temple set to open in UAE’s Dubai –
- Construction work for Dubai’s grand new Hindu temple has reached its final stages.
- The temple is going to be inaugurated this year on October 4 and will be open for public from the next day which is coinciding with the festival of Dussehra.
- The temple is situated in Dubai’s Corridor of Tolerance in Jabel Ali region. The area also houses a Sikh Gurdwara and several Churches for Christian sects. UAE media reported that the temple will house 16 Hindu deities.
- It will have various facilities for devotees viz., a community centre for outreach activities and a welcoming of people across religious beliefs and a knowledge room.
- In the initial phase, only worship area will be open for public. From the day of Makar Sankranti, 14 January 2023, the Knowledge Room and Community Centre will also open their doors for public. The temple will have facilities for people to organise weddings, havan, and private events.

5450. Hindu temple attacked, idols vandalised, three madarsa students arrested
- Mongla Police in Bangladesh detained three madarsa students for allegedly vandalising idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses in Kainmari Temple.
- The incident took place on the night of August 6 (Saturday). As per reports, the attack on the temple took place after the temple administration asked a few Muslim boys from madarsa not to play football on the field adjoining the temple.
- The residents said on Saturday evening, there was an altercation between the people from the temple and those who came to play football in Kainmari Temple, which is located in the Kainmari area of district Chandpai.
- The Temple committee had prohibited the boys from playing on the temple ground. Following the altercation, the boys left but only after threatening the temple authorities with consequences that were retaliated as well.
