5411. Vijayawada: Devotees forced to line pockets of barbers at Durga temple
- The devotees, who wish to offer hair to Goddess Durga, are baffled as they are forced to line the pockets of the barbers at 'Kesa khandanasala' (tonsuring hall) at Sri Durga Malleswara temple atop Indrakeeladri. On an average, 5 to 10% of devotees on normal days and 10 to 30% on auspicious days like Dasara will offer their hair to the Goddess.
- Devotees and pilgrims alleged that they are forced to shell out extra money in the form of various charges. Besides they have to pay high prices at the temples to buy puja items and other things, as the vendors collect more than double the price compared to market price for any item at the temple.
- The temple administration charges Rs 25 for tonsuring and for three cuttings . However, the barbers formed as a gang and fixed the amount to demand the pilgrims. They allegedly harass devotees for extra money. Despite buying ticket for tonsuring, devotees complained that they have to pay extra amount ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 100. This extra amount will go up to Rs 200 if they have to tonsure children.

5413. All India Hindu Mahasabha calls for banning entry of beef eaters in temples
- The All India Hindu Mahasabha has joined the criticism against actors Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor while calling for a ban on the entry of all beef eaters into Hindu temples. Supporting the Bajrang Dal’s act, the All India Hindu Mahasabha chairman Chakrapani Maharaj said, “No beef eater can be allowed inside a temple”.
- On 07Sep22, the actors, along with the film’s director Ayan Mukherjee, were in Ujjain to promote the multilingual movie Brahmastra: Part 1 Shiva. They were not allowed entry into the Mahakaleshwar temple by local Bajrang Dal members.

5420. Idol for Ayodhya temple should be sourced from Nepal’s Himalayas: Bimlendra Nidhi
- Ancient Himalayan rocks that are found in Nepal should be considered for the making of the idol of Lord Ram in the upcoming temple in Ayodhya, a group of eminent citizens from Nepal has suggested.
- Former Deputy Prime Minister and senior Nepali Congress leader Bimlendra Nidhi, who represents this group, visited Ayodhya earlier this month and proposed that apart from the specific Himalayan rock for the idol, the people of Janakpur would also like to gift a metallic “Shiv Dhanush” that would be on display at the temple complex.
- As per available information, the idol of Ram Lalla that is worshipped at present in Ayodhya will continue to be worshipped in the new temple but alongside the old deity, a larger idol is being considered as is often found in large Hindu temples where a larger idol is worshipped along with a smaller deity. Large idols are more suitable for main pilgrimage centres that attract a greater number of pilgrims who have to worship from a distance.
