5401. Gujarat: Amit Shah unveils 16-feet tall Lord Hanuman statue, offers prayers at Somnath temple
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sep 11 unveiled a 16-feet tall statue of Lord Hanuman in Somnath town of Gujarat after offering prayers at the Somnath Mahadev temple. He also inaugurated the 'Somganga distribution facility' of the Somnath temple to filter the Ganga water offered to Mahadev at Somnath temple and give it as prasad to the devotees in packed bottles.
- The minister then launched a web portal of the Somnath Trust to facilitate devotees to do online booking of slots for offering prayers at the temple, to make donations, book rooms, and take live darshan of Somnath Mahadev daily, among other things.
- Shah, who is a trustee of the Somnath Trust, offered prayers at the temple and later unveiled the statue of Lord Hanuman near the Samudra Darshan Path. He also inaugurated a total of 202 'Maruti Haat' shops on the Samudra Darshan Path, a release said.

5402. Tamil Nadu Waqf Board Claims Entire Hindu-Majority Village Including Temple Lands As Its Property
- A pall of gloom has descended over the people of Thiruchendurai village in Tiruchirapalli district as the Tamil Nadu Waqf Board has reportedly claimed the entire village to be its property. Waqf properties are those movable and immovable properties, dedicated by a person professing Islam, for any purpose recognised by the Muslim law as pious, religious or charitable.
- According to a report by Tamil daily Dinamalar, one Rajagopal of Mullikarupur owning agricultural land in Thiruchendurai village had entered into an agreement to sell 1 acre 2 cents of his land to one Rajarajeshwari. He had gone to the Joint III Sub-Registrar office in Trichy to arrange the purchase deed for ₹3.5 lakhs and get it registered.
- However, he was told by the sub-registrar that the land cannot be registered as it belongs to the Tamil Nadu Waqf Board. The sub-registrar had told him that he has to get a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the Tamil Nadu Waqf Board office in Chennai to sell the land.

5403. UAE residents get first glimpse of new Hindu temple in Dubai
- Thousands of UAE residents have had the first glimpse of the new Hindu temple in Dubai after its soft opening earlier this month. Ahead of its grand official opening in October, the temple, that welcomes people of all faiths, has allowed entry to worshippers and other visitors for viewing the 16 deities and other interior works.
- All the deities were installed after special prayers were conducted for nine days for each deity and the Guru Granth Sahib, the Holy Book of the Sikhs, was also installed by the end of August.
- The temple is located in what is described as the ‘Worship Village’ in Jebel Ali that houses several churches and the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara. The soft opening of the temple was held on September 1 with the management activating the QR-code based appointment booking system via the website of the Hindu temple Dubai.

5404. Woman devotee faints at Bankey Bihari Temple
- Agra Yet another woman devotee fainted near the entrance of Sri Bankey Bihari Temple in Vrindavan on Sunday. She was given first aid and taken to hospital from where she was later discharged. The woman Mamta Pandey, 32, who came with family members from Ballabhgarh city of Haryana, fainted near the stairs of the temple entrance
- “The woman devotee was moving towards the entrance. She fainted and the cops and guards present on the spot rushed to her aid. Primary medical care was provided to her at the temple complex,” said Suraj Prakash Sharma, in charge at Vrindavan Kotwali police station.
- “She was later taken to Ram Krishna Mission Hospital where she recovered and was discharged later in the day. The woman devotee had not entered the temple premises but was moving in the lane leading to the entrance of the temple,” clarified Sharma.

5405. Ayodhya: Shri Ram Janamabhoomi temple's revised estimated construction cost comes to Rs 1800 crore
- A meeting of the Shri Ram Janamabhoomi trust was convened on Sep11. Champat Rai, general secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust told reporters after the meeting that the cost of construction of the grand Ram temple is expected to be around Rs 1,800 crores.
- Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust also finalised its rules and regulations in the meeting. "Rules and regulations of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust have been finalised.
- Champat Rai said that 14 of the 15 trust members attended the said meeting. Idols of several other deities of the Ramayan era are also expected to be placed at the Ram temple.

5406. Hindu community in Balochistan opens temple door for flood victims
- As Pakistan is facing its worst devastation due to the floods, the Hindu community in Balochistan has come up with a gesture of humanity and religious harmony, by opening the doors of a temple to shelter flood-affected people.
- A tiny village of Jalal Khan in the Kachhi district of Balochistan has been cut off from the rest of the province due to the floods. The floods in the country have destroyed houses and left mass destruction in their wake, Dawn newspaper reported.
- Locals have opened the doors of the Baba Madhudas Mandir, as per the publication. Recently, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) also raised concerns for providing healthcare facilities to almost 6,50,000 pregnant women in flood-affected areas in Pakistan.

5407. Power cables to be underground near Tamil Nadu’s four major temples
- The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company (Tangedco) will be calling tenders for laying underground cables near the state's four major temples - Tiruvarur, Suchindram, Madurai, and Srivilliputhur temples.
- Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister Senthil Balaji had recently said that the department is in the process of preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for laying underground cables near these temples.
- The underground cables are to be laid near these temples at the streets through which temple car festivals are held. Many tragic incidents involving the mast head of temple cars hitting overhead electric wires have led to electric shock and deaths of people.

5408. Supreme Court to hear pleas challenging constitutional validity of Places of Worship Act on October 11
- The Supreme Court on Sep09 decided to list petitions challenging the Places of Worship Act, 1991, for hearing on October 11 by a three-judge bench. The top court has also asked the central government to file its reply in the matter within two weeks as Solicitor General Tushar Mehta sought more time for file its response.
- A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) UU Lalit and comprising Justices S Ravindra Bhat and P S Narasimha will hear the case. The bench will also be hearing the counter-petitions and intervention application filed by Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind. The CJI, however, disallowed a plea to stall ongoing proceedings in the Varanasi and Mathura courts under the Places of Worship Act.
- On Sep08, the daughter of former King of Kashi, Maharaja Kumari Krishna Priya, moved an application through advocate J Sai Deepak in the top court to join the case as an intervenor. The Places of Worship Act 1991 states that the religious character of all spiritual places will remain unchanged from the date of independence, i.e., August 15, 1947, with the only exception of the Ayodhya temple.

5409. Terrorist activities on the rise near temples in Kerala?
- Earlier this week, Thiruvananthapuram police detained two non-local Muslim men named Mohammad Hassan (21) and Shahrukh Ali (30). They ran a shop, Royal Hair Salon, just 100 feet from the famous Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple.
- On the 6th, ANI reported that they are Rampur, Uttar Pradesh (UP) natives and are being interrogated by military intelligence and central agencies. ANI also tweeted that Hassan was arrested under the IT Act for tampering with a customer’s cell phone.
- Sreedharan and some locals caught Hassan, and when they checked his phone found pictures of Pakistani army men in battle fatigues traveling in military convoys. There were some messages too, which were in Urdu. The victim complained to the police, who took Hassan and Ali into custody.

5410. 3 antique idols stolen from Tamil Nadu temple traced to US museums
- Three antique idols, including one of Kalinganarthana Krishna, stolen from a temple in Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu have been traced to museums/auction houses in the US, the Idol Wing CID said on 07Sep2022 The bronze idols of Kalinganarthana Krishna, Vishnu and Sridevi were stolen from Arulmigu Soundararaja Perumal temple, Sundara Perumalkovil village in Kumbakonam, it said..
- The idols of Kalinganarthana Krishna, Vishnu and Sridevi were replaced with fake images at the temple about 60 years ago and this had gone unnoticed all these years, the police said.
- After the investigation established that the idols were in museums/auction houses in the US, the wing submitted papers seeking the return of all the three to Tamil Nadu for restoring them to the Soundararaja Perumal temple, Idol Wing DGP K Jayanth Murali said.
