5421. Sabarimala temple opened for ‘Chingam’
- The Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala was opened on August 16 on the eve of the monthly five-day pujas for the Malayalam month of Chingam.
- Under the guidance of Tantri Kandararu Rajeevararu, Melsanthi M.N. Prameswaran Namboothiri opened the sanctum sanctorum of the temple at 5 p.m. This was followed by the opening of the various Upadevatha temples and the lighting of the ‘aazhi’ near the 18 holy steps.
- The temple will be closed at 10 p.m. on August 21 and reopened on September 6 in connection with the Thiruvonam celebrations

5422. Waiting time for darshan at Tirumala stretches beyond 40 hours amid huge surge in pilgrim
- The sacred abode of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala was jam packed with devotees on all sides, with an unprecedented pilgrim footfall reported on the hill town owing to the back to back holidays.
- TTD officials claimed that about 50,443 devotees had darshan at the hill temple till 4pm 14 Aug. 2022 and that tens of thousands of more devotees were awaiting their turn of darshan in the outside queue lines which stretched for more than five kilometres circling the hill town.
- The accommodation reception counters, tonsure centres, darshan queue lines, laddu counters, Anna prasadam counters were all jam packed with devotees throughout the day.

5423. Kamrunag temple caretaker alleges theft bid
- Kahan Singh, a ‘kardar’ (caretaker) of the temple committee of Kamrunag deity, has alleged that some miscreants have attempted to steal money and ornaments from a lake near the temple.
- Many people visit this lake and offer gold and silver valuables, besides coins and currency, to the lake while praying for the fulfilment of their wishes.
- Kahan Singh said, “Some miscreants ventured into the lake to plunder the wealth of the deity. They were carrying sticks in their hands. The miscreants first locked the guards of the temple inside the room and then entered into the lake to search for valuables inside the lake.

5424. Cuttack: Flood water enters Maa Bhattarika Temple
- Constant heavy rainfall has caused a rise in the water level in Mahanadi river, which has resulted in entry of flood water inside Maa Bhattarika’s Temple at Narasinghpur, Cuttack district.
- Due to heavy rainfall 34 sluice gates of Hirakud Dam have been opened, owing to which the water level in Mahanadi has risen significantly. This has cased the water to enter the Bhattarika Temple which is situated in Badamba block.
- The ensure that the rituals remained unaffected the presiding deity will be relocated to a safer place atop the adjacent hill by the temple administration.

5425. Telangana's Mahatma Gandhi temple sees increase in number of 'devotees'
- There has been a marked increase in the footfalls to a temple for Mahatma Gandhi in a village in this district in Telangana, with the villagers flocking to have his 'darshan' and seek blessings.
- For many people around Chityal town in Telangana, about 75 KM from Hyderabad, visiting the Mahatma Gandhi Temple is becoming a sentiment.
- The temple which usually has visitors numbering 60-70 on a normal day is now witnessing increased flow of devotees in the range of around 350 after the Telangana government and the Centre's initiatives to celebrate the 75th year of independence.

5426. Har Ghar Tiranga: Tricolour to fly atop temples in Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura
- All temples in Ayodhya, Kashi and Mathura will unfurl the Tricolour at the temples on Monday to mark 75 years of Independence.
- Around 8,000 temples in Ayodhya, including the makeshift Ram Janmabhoomi shrine, the Hanuman Garhi temple, Kanak Bhavan and the various mutts will hoist the national flag this Independence Day.
- Around 20,000 sadhus living in temples across Ayodhya will also take part in this campaign with the Hanuman Garhi temple taking the lead.

5427. Initiated Manaskhand Mandir Mission for ancient temples of Kumaon
- Uttarakhand government has initiated ‘Manaskhand Mandir Mala Mission to make the old temples of the Kumaon region more imposing and grander.
- The CM (Dhami) said that the Kedarnath temple has been more imposing and grand under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the renovation of the Badrinath Dham would also be done at a fast pace.

5428. After 4 years, ASI reiterates demand to open inner treasury of Jagannath temple
- More than four years after an unsuccessful attempt to inspect the ‘Ratna Bhandar’, or chambers containing valuables, of the Lord Jagannath temple in Puri.
- Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has renewed its demand for the opening of the chambers for inspection.
- Temple authorities should take necessary steps to open the inner chamber of the treasury, which contains valuables such as gold, silver and jewels donated by devotees and granted by kings over \centuries.

5430. Attack on Hindu Temple in New York, USA
- An unidentified individual knocked the statue over and left it face down on the ground with its arm cracked and hand broken into pieces.
- This is the fourth attempt at destroying a Gandhi statue across North America and the fifth attack on a Hindu temple in the past year.
- There is a concerted campaign at spreading anti-Hindu hate in major urban centers across the country. The rise in anti-Hindu attacks over the last few years has been carried out by the same groups and individuals that target Jews and spread anti-Semitism.”
- We believe that the targeting of the Hindu mandir and specifically vandalism of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue is an act against the core Hindu ideals of peace.
