2811. India And Japan To Launch Latest Shinkansen E10 Bullet Train Simultaneously By 2029-30
- India and Japan are set to introduce the latest iteration of the Shinkansen, the Alfa-X, also known as the E10, simultaneously in 2029-30.
- Initially, indigenously developed high-speed trains will operated on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai corridor after the project's completion next year.
- Tokyo has agreed to India running its own high-speed prototypes on the same infrastructure, set to be ready by 2026-27. Previously slated to receive the Shinkansen E5, India now looks forward to the E10, capable of reaching speeds up to 400 kmph—an upgrade from the E5’s 320 kmph limit.
2812. Isro to launch Nisar, joint mission with Nasa, in March 2025
- American space agency Nasa and the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) are set to launch the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (Nisar) satellite in March 2025. The mission, valued at ₹5,000 crore, aims to transform global Earth observation and marks a milestone in international space cooperation.
- Conceived in 2009, the 2.8-tonne Nisar satellite is designed to monitor planetary changes with unmatched precision. It will scan nearly all of Earth’s land and ice surfaces twice every 12 days, capturing intricate details about ecosystems, land dynamics, and ice formations.
- Nisar will be launched aboard ISRO’s GSLV Mk-II rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre. It will operate at an altitude of 747 km in a sun-synchronous orbit, with a planned mission duration of three years.
2813. UP approves Rs 50,000 crore aerospace, defence policy to create 1 lakh jobs
- In a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on January 22, 2025, the state government approved 10 key proposals aimed at accelerating the state’s development.
- The groundbreaking Aerospace and Defence Unit and Employment Promotion Policy 2024 was introduced to position Uttar Pradesh as a leader in the sector by Yogi Adityanath Government.
- The policy sets an ambitious target of attracting Rs 50,000 crore in investments, with the potential to generate direct employment for 1 lakh youth across the state. The Cabinet meeting was held at Prayagraj’s Triveni Complex.
2814. Top 10 global military powers in 2025: India 4th, Pakistan not in top 10
- The Global Firepower Military Strength Ranking has recently released a list of the world’s most powerful militaries, evaluating the military strengths of 145 countries based on over 60 individual factors that contribute to a Power Index score. India ranked 4th in the list.
- The United States of America has reaffirmed its position as the unrivalled leader in military strength, a position it has maintained since 2005. Following the United States, Russia secured the second position while China is on 3rd position.
- The military landscape includes other notable players like South Korea, ranking 5th, followed by Japan at 7th, Türkiye at 8th, and Iran at 14th.
2815. Telangana inks pact with Skyroot to launch India’s first integrated rocket facility with ₹500 crore investment
- The Telangana government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Skyroot Aerospace, a Hyderabad-based company specialising in space technology.
- Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and IT & Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu oversaw the signing of the MoU at the Telangana pavilion at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual conference 2025 on January 21, 2025.
- The agreement envisages Skyroot establishing an integrated private rocket manufacturing, integration, and testing facility in Telangana. This facility is expected to be one of the largest of its kind in the private sector, with Skyroot investing around ₹500 crore in the project.
2816. Paras Defence announces ₹12,000 crore investment for India’s first optics park in Maharashtra
- Paras Defence & Space Technologies, which makes optics and optronic systems for defence and space, is set to invest ₹12,000 crore in Maharashtra to establish India’s first optics Park in Maharashtra, the company said in a release.
- The Optics Park Project is expected to commence in 2028 in phases up to 2035 to ensure scalability and flexibility.
- The project is expected to generate over 2,000 direct employment opportunities and catalyse technological advancements across key industries such as defence, space, automotive, industrial, and commercial applications.

- India has sent its largest-ever delegation to the World Economic Forum annual event in Davos, comprising five union ministers and three state chief ministers, besides the government officials and civil society members.
- Kerala, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and West Bengal are the states which have established their presence at WEF, 2025.
- The Annual Meeting 2025 of The World Economic Forum is taking place at Davos-Klosters from 20th to 24th January 2025. India Pavilion at the 55th World Economic Forum (WEF) annual conference 2025 in Davos, Switzerland, features eight states, each seeking investment opportunities from executives of companies worldwide.
2818. India’s first ‘affordable' airport food outlet in Kolkata gets 900 customers a day: Report
- India's first and only ‘affordable food outlet’ in an airport has seen massive success, attracting a daily footfall of around 900 customers in its first month itself, news agency PTI reported.
- The UDAN Yatri Cafe, located in the departure area of Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport, serves tea for instance, at a price of as little as ₹10 while from other places generally, it can cost many times more.
- The cafe was set up by the ministry of civil aviation, in association with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) after a large number of passengers complained about airport food being overpriced.

2820. JK Tyre & Industries secures $100 million Sustainability-Linked Loan from IFC
- International Finance Corporation (IFC) has sanctioned a $ 100 million Sustainability-Linked Loan (SLL) to JK Tyre & Industries (JK Tyre).
- The funding includes $30 million to JK Tyre and up to $70 million for Cavendish Industries (CIL), a subsidiary of JK Tyre.
- The funding will support the expansion of tyre manufacturing capacity, focusing on Passenger Car Radial (PCR) tyres at JK Tyre's Banmore plant in Madhya Pradesh and Truck and Bus Radial (TBR) tyres at CIL's Laksar plant in Uttarakhand.
