2821. India’s First Solar Powered Electric Car Launched At Rs 3.25 Lakh - Offers 250 Km Range
- Pune-based Vayve Mobility launched India's first solar-powered electric car, Eva, in three variants: Nova, Stella, and Vega. With the battery rental plan, the prices are Rs 3.25 lakh, Rs 3.99 lakh, and Rs 4.49 lakh, respectively, while without the battery rental plan, they are Rs 3.99 lakh, Rs 4.99 lakh, and Rs 5.99 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.
- According to the company, the battery pack can be subscribed to for Rs 2 per kilometer driven with a minimum cap of 600 km for Nova, 800 km for Stella and 1200 km for Vega. It means you will be charged for these minimum distances, even if you do not drive the Eva.
- Vayve claims that the solar panel on the roof enables it to be charged via solar energy and adds 10 km of range every day. It can clock a top speed of 70 kmph and can achieve 0-40 kmph in 5 seconds.
2822. ICAR-CIFT extend tech support for shrimp shell bio-refinery
- To address the issues connected with the shrimp processing waste, the Kochi-based Central Institute of Fisheries Technology has assisted in setting up of a shrimp shell bio-refinery.
- Claiming to be the first in the country, the initiative will help realise sustainable industrial practices in the fisheries sector. Managing waste is a perennial problem faced by the country’s shrimp processing industry for decades and it becomes an environmental liability.
- CIFT’s shrimp shell bio-refinery technology reduces environmental impact and produces valuable products such as chitin, chitosan and shrimp protein hydrolysate.
2823. ExTeM researchers working on long-term human settlement in Mars and Moon
- Researchers at ExTeM, which was established in 2021 under the Institute of Eminence (IoE) scheme at IIT Madras, are advancing technologies for manufacturing activities in space.
- Working towards developing technologies for future human settlement on the Moon and Mars, “ExTeM” (Extraterrestrial Manufacturing) researchers are coming up with innovative processes to tackle the challenges of constructing infrastructure, developing 3D printing tools, and extracting materials crucial for sustainable space exploration, at their IIT Madras Centre.

- Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on January 22, 2025 said, “Our first 'Made in India' chip will be rolled out this year and now we are looking at the next phase, where we can get equipment manufacturers, material manufacturers and designers in India”.
- At the World Economic Forum, the union minister stated that India's semiconductor programme, he said the industry stakeholders have shown solid confidence in our semiconductor programme.

2825. Bengaluru Airport recognised as India's first airport to achieve ACI accessibility accreditation
- Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru has become the first airport in India to receive Level 1 Accreditation under the Airports Council International (ACI) Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation (AEA) Programme, officials said on January 22, 2025.
- The AEA Programme is designed to enhance accessibility and inclusion at airports by addressing the needs of persons with disabilities and older travellers.

2827. Bengaluru-based startup, backed by Nikhil Kamath, unveils India's first flying taxi prototype 'Shunya': Report
- The Bengaluru-based Sarla Aviation, a new player in urban air mobility, introduced its innovative electric flying taxi, Shunya, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo on January 22, 2025.
- The startup revealed plans to bring its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles to the skies by 2028, aiming to be India’s first provider of urban air transportation, Economic Times reported.
- The Shunya prototype is capable of covering 20-30 km trips at speeds up to 250 km/h. With a capacity to carry six passengers and a maximum payload of 680 kg, it is currently touted as the eVTOL with the highest payload in its category.
2828. Maharashtra seals MoUs worth Rs 6.25 lakh crore so far at Davos, Tatas to invest Rs 30,000 crore
- Maharashtra has signed 31 MoUs for investments worth over Rs 6.25 lakh crore at Davos, Switzerland with Indian companies across automotive, steel, defence, EVs, renewables and electronics sectors, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed on January 22, 2025.
- Maharashtra’s $500 billion economy is the largest in India for any state. The state aspires to become a $1 trillion economy by 2028-30.
- The foreign investment in the first six months in Maharashtra totalled up to Rs 1.13 lakh crore, which was 31% of the total inflow between April to September.

2830. India's rice exports defy restrictions, hold steady in 2024
- India's rice exports held steady in 2024 despite New Delhi's export curbs, as record high premium basmati rice shipments offset a decline in overseas sales of non-basmati rice, government and industry officials told Reuters.
- Basmati rice exports in 2024 surged 16.3% to a record 5.7 million tons as Saudi Arabia, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates increased buying despite a jump in prices.
- The country's rice exports in 2024 stood at 17.8 million metric tons, marginally down from 17.86 million tons shipped a year earlier, the official said.
