11. Uttarakhand CM Dhami inaugurates Rs 147 crore development projects in Haldwani
- On February 28, 2026, in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, Chief Minister inaugurated 23 projects and laid foundations for 17 projects worth Rs 147.28 crore in Nainital district.
- Chief Minister launched infrastructure, water supply and institutional projects through state funding, Special Plan Assistance and government schemes, aiming to accelerate district development while promoting cultural preservation and policy reforms.
- Projects include a 30-metre Shipra River bridge, ITI technology lab, 14 Jal Jeevan Mission drinking water schemes and hospital upgrades. Bhoomi Pujan was also performed for a Rs 154.43 crore Haldwani-Kathgodam water augmentation scheme.
12. "Proud chapter in Tamil Nadu's development journey": PM Modi inaugurates, lays foundation for infra projects worth Rs 4400 Cr in Madurai
- On March 1, 2026, in Madurai, Prime Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth over Rs 4,400 crore across Tamil Nadu to enhance connectivity and regional development.
- Prime Minister launched highway expansions, railway upgrades and broadcasting projects under PM Gati Shakti, aiming to reduce travel time, ease congestion, improve passenger amenities and strengthen multimodal connectivity across key economic and religious destinations.
- Projects include four-laning of NH-332A and NH-87, eight redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the Chennai Beach–Chennai Egmore fourth rail line, and three new Akashvani FM transmitters at Kumbakonam, Yercaud and Vellore.
13. Maruti Suzuki posts 2.14 lakh sales in February 2026, exports surge 56%
- On March 1, 2026, It was reported that, In February 2026, Maruti Suzuki India Limited recorded total sales of 2,13,995 units in India and overseas markets, up from 1,99,400 units in February 2025, driven by strong exports and utility vehicle demand.
- Maruti Suzuki achieved growth through a 56 percent rise in exports to 39,155 units and strong utility vehicle sales of 72,756 units, reflecting increasing consumer preference for SUVs and MPVs.
- Domestic sales stood at 1,74,840 units including OEMs. Mini and compact segment sales declined to 76,624 units. April–February FY2025–26 total sales reached 2,197,462 units, with exports rising to 400,734 units year-on-year.

14. Rs 294.1 crore approved for landslide mitigation on Kiratpur-Manali NH
- On February 28, 2026, Rs 294.1 crore was approved for permanent landslide mitigation and slope stabilisation works on the Kiratpur–Manali NH-3 corridor at the vulnerable Thalout stretch in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh.
- Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways announced the approval via social media. The project will implement advanced slope protection systems and reinforced concrete structures to deliver long-term, sustainable solutions instead of temporary repairs.
- NH-3 connects Kullu, Manali, Lahaul-Spiti and Leh. The Thalout stretch faced repeated monsoon landslides, and a nearby four-lane tunnel remained closed for eight months, disrupting tourism, essential supplies and strategic connectivity across the region.
15. UPI Transactions Jump 27% To 20.39 Billion In February, Daily Volumes & Global Reach Continue To Rise
- In February, UPI processed 20.39 billion transactions across India, recording a 27% year-on-year increase in volumes, though slightly lower than January’s 21.70 billion transactions, according to NPCI data released On March 1, 2026.
- The Unified Payments Interface, operated by the National Payments Corporation of India, achieved growth through expanding merchant adoption and rising higher-value transactions, signalling structural digital payment expansion, according to industry executives including fintech cofounder Siddharth Mehta.
- Transaction value rose 22% year-on-year to Rs 26.84 lakh crore but declined 5.2% month-on-month from Rs 28.33 lakh crore in January, which had three additional days. Average daily transactions reached a record 728 million in February.

16. PM inaugurates first semiconductor plant: ‘Look what a Gujju can do with Re 1…’
- On February 28, 2026, Prime Minister of India inaugurated Micron Technology’s Rs 22,516 crore semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging facility in Sanand, Gujarat, marking India’s first semiconductor manufacturing plant under the Semicon India programme.
- PM and US Ambassador Sergio Gor attended the event. Micron Technology invested Rs 22,516 crore to establish the facility, reflecting strong India-US cooperation and accelerating India’s integration into the global semiconductor supply chain.
- The plant will manufacture SSD storage devices, DRAM and NAND products. It is expected to create an industrial ecosystem in Sanand. The government has approved 10 semiconductor projects, with more units set to begin production in Noida, Assam, Odisha and Punjab.

17. Presidency University ties up with University of Birmingham
- Presidency University signed an MoU with the University of Birmingham. The tie-up will lead to collaborations between the two institutes and students' exchange programmes, aimed at excelling in the fields of economics, finance and governance.
- The partnership will initially focus on economics, finance, and governance with potential expansion into other social science disciplines.
- It includes opportunities for students to pursue postgraduate courses abroad such as MSc in economics, financial economics, and programs in money, banking & finance, as well as possible scholarships and development of new courses like MSc in big data and analytics.
18. Indian university signs MoU with American university for research opportunities
- Delhi Technological University (DTU) and the University of Houston (UH) signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to intensify academic and research collaboration.
- The agreement will be extended in 2030, if needed, with the view of facilitating knowledge exchange, collaborative research, and increased opportunities for students. Students will also enjoy paid internships and cooperative placements provided by the host institution.
- Under this collaboration, UH and DTU will engage in collaborative educational and research activities. Scholars and faculty will be able to participate in research exchanges, exchange academic publications, and work together on scholarly projects.
- It has also collaborated with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations to advance Tamil language and culture.
19. Dhirubhai Ambani University School of Law signs MoU with International Law Institute Washington DC
- The Dhirubhai Ambani University - School of Law has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Law Institute (ILI), Washington DC, for international legal training and development.
- The MoU signifies a robust academic partnership grounded in mutual collaboration, knowledge exchange, and a shared commitment to excellence in legal education, international development, and capacity building.
- As part of the MoU, the institutions have committed to advancing a wide array of cooperative initiatives, including, student and professional exchange programs to offer immersive international learning experiences, faculty exchange and visiting scholar opportunities to promote cross-border academic collaboration.
- Joint technical assistance projects for governments and institutions in need of legal expertise. Collaborative capacity-building programs aimed at public and private sector leaders.
20. Kerala signs MoUs with 47 global universities, ushering in new era of academic exchange
- In a major academic development, six universities in Kerala have signed agreements with 47 universities from 40 countries to facilitate student higher education, research and faculty exchange programmes.
- Partner institutions include universities from countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Russia, Australia, Ireland, Switzerland and Germany.
- As per the agreements, the respective universities are expected to cover the academic expenses of both students and faculty members. However, Kerala’s universities are currently unable to bear these costs due to ongoing financial constraints, and they are also struggling to raise funds independently.
- Kerala University is at the forefront when it comes to signing MoUs with foreign universities, having entered into agreements with 22 international institutions.
