2791. India on track to meet SDG health targets well ahead of 2030 deadline: Govt
- The Union Cabinet on Jan 22 2025 reviewed the progress under the National Health Mission (NHM) over the last three years and was informed that with significant progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), India is on track to meet its health targets well ahead of the 2030 deadline.
- Over the last three years, the NHM has driven substantial progress in multiple areas, including maternal and child health, disease elimination, and healthcare infrastructure, an official statement said.
- The Cabinet also gave its nod to continue the mission for the next two years for achievements of the targets under SDG.

- During the first nine months of the current financial year, Indian companies announced investments of over Rs 32 trillion, a 39 per cent increase compared to Rs 23 trillion in the same period of the previous financial year, With private sector contributions rising to 70 per cent according to a State Bank of India (SBI) report.
- A strong pipeline of Rs 13.63 trillion in work-in-progress capital (as of March 2024) highlights significant growth momentum during the coming years.
- Government investment reached 4.1 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) in FY23, the highest since FY12. Private sector investment as a share of GDP hit 11.9 per cent, the highest since FY16.

- India’s healthcare sector is expected to reach $320 billion by 2028, Great Place To Work said in its latest report on the pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and biotechnology sectors.
- The pharmaceutical sector is targeting $130 billion by 2030 and biotechnology is aiming for $300 billion by the same year, the report added.
- With healthcare AI investments expected to hit $1.6 billion by 2025, India is not just advancing science but also creating dynamic workplaces that nurture talent.
2794. Used car market overtakes new car sales in India: CARS24's report
- India's used-car market has surpassed new car sales in 2024, with 5,412,945 units sold versus 4,163,804 new cars, as per CARS24's report.
- In 2024, electric vehicle (EV) sales saw a five-fold increase, while SUVs captured 16.7 per cent of the market share, driven by their versatility, spaciousness, and premium appeal.
- The average selling price (ASP) of new cars has surged by 32 per cent, while used cars saw a 24 per cent increase. According to the company, this widening gap makes used cars a more attractive and budget-friendly option for a growing segment of buyers.

2796. IMD head gets American Meteorological Society award for cyclone forecasts
- The American Meteorological Society (AMS) has conferred the Scientific and Technological Activities Commission (STAC) Outstanding Service Award 2025 on India Meteorological Department (IMD) director general Mrutyunjaya Mohapatra.
- Mohapatra is popularly known as the cyclone man due to his prediction of trajectories for cyclones Phailin (2013), Hudhud (2014), Sagar and Mekunu (2018), Titli and Luban (2018), Fani (2019), Amphan (2020), Biparjoy (2023), Remal and Dana (2024).
- The accuracy of IMD cyclone forecasts increased from about 20% in the early 2000s to over 80% by 2020.
2797. DRDO’s recent scramjet test puts India firmly in the hypersonic weapons race
- on 24 january 2024 Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) recently demonstrated the scramjet combustor ground test for 120 seconds for the first time in India.
- Hypersonic missiles are a class of advanced weaponry that travel at speeds greater than ‘Mach 5’ – five times the speed of sound. Ramjets are air-breathing jet engines that use the vehicle’s forward motion to compress inflowing air for combustion without a rotating compressor.
- The facility has been working towards developing a long-duration Supersonic Combustion Ramjet or Scramjet-powered Hypersonic technology.

2798. Indian Army Rolls Out Rs 2,402 Crore Surveillance System ‘SANJAY’ for Network-Centric Warfare
- Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh officially flagged off ‘SANJAY – The Battlefield Surveillance System (BSS)’ from South Block, New Delhi, marking a significant leap in the Indian Army’s surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities, on January 24, 2025.
- The SANJAY system was jointly developed by the Indian Army and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) under the ‘Buy (Indian)’ category, aligning with the Government of India’s vision of Aatmanirbharta (Self-Reliant India) in defence.
- Developed at a cost of ₹2,402 crore, SANJAY will be inducted into all operational brigades, divisions, and corps of the Indian Army in three phases from March to October 2025, a period designated as the ‘Year of Reforms’ by the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

2800. India’s manufacturing sector logs strong growth in Jan as exports surge: Report
- India’s manufacturing sector recorded a strong growth in January this year led by a sharp rise in new export orders and a likely flurry of restocking activity around the world, according to the HSBC flash PMI report released on January 24, 2025.
- Based on an analysis of 100 activity indicators, the report suggests the growth momentum has improved in the quarter ending December with 65 per cent of the indicators growing at a positive clip in the December quarter compared to 55 per cent in the previous one.
- It also points out that inflation is on its way down, and expected to fall further to 4.2 per cent in January which is likely to pave the way for an easing of monetary policy.
