2891. India to co-chair Paris AI summit in February: France
- A French-organised summit on artificial intelligence (AI) scheduled for early February in Paris "will be co-chaired with India", minister Clara Chappaz said on January, 2025 after a cabinet meeting.
- Industry leaders such as OpenAI's Sam Altman and DeepMind's Demis Hassabis will attend the Paris Summit to be held on 10-11 February, 2025.
- Almost 1,000 heads of state and government, bosses, think tanks, campaign groups, research institutes and artists have been invited to the Paris summit.
2892. How India is meeting the global demand for tech talent and innovation
- India has emerged as a top destination for global companies as India has risen as a global powerhouse in tech talent, says Debashish Bhattacharyya, Chairman of PanIIT Alumni India.
- Bhattacharya says, “Cost is definitely one of the factors... but even more than cost, our knowledge of English, our pool of STEM-educated graduates, and our ability to look at larger canvases and drive down to the actual requirement of the application are key contributors.”
- Bhattacharyya traces the evolution of India’s IT sector, noting, “We are actually poised at almost the leading edge of the technology... our guys, our people are at the forefront, whether sitting in India or whether sitting outside of India.”

2893. ISRO successfully docks SpaDeX satellites in space, creates history
- Indian Space Research Organisation, the Indian space agency, succeeded in docking or mating two Indian satellites in space on January 16, 2025 morning. This is part of the Space Docking Experiment or SpaDeX.
- India became the fourth country to achieve this successful space docking after the United States, Russia, and China.
- The SpaDeX mission was launched on December 30, 2025 with the satellites, SDX01 (Chaser) and SDX02 (Target), being lifted off onboard a PSLV C60 rocket and placed into a 475-kilometre circular orbit.
2894. India’s Road to Progress: National Highway network grown by 60%, rising from 91,287 km in 2014 to 146,195 km now, says MoRTH
- India’s National Highway network expanded by 60% over the past decade. The total length of NHs has risen from 91,287 km in 2014 to an impressive 146,195 km in 2025.
- As per The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways statement on January 9, 2025, the length of National High-Speed Corridors (HSC) has grown from just 93 km in 2014 to 2,474 km in 2025.
- The length of four-lane and above highways has more than doubled, increasing from 18,278 km in 2014 to 45,947 km, ensuring smoother and faster transportation for commuters and goods.

2895. India's Vibrant Village Programme Set To Bolster Border Connectivity: 113 Road Projects Worth Rs 2,421 Crore Approved In 2024
- A year after the launch of the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) along the India-China border, in 2023-24, 113 road projects worth Rs 2,420.97 crore were sanctioned across Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Uttarakhand.
- As per the Union Home Ministry's annual report, the third phase of the India-China Border Roads (ICBR) project commenced in Ladakh, the site of the 2020 Galwan clash.
- The Vibrant Village Programme, approved as a centrally sponsored scheme in 2023, aims to develop villages in 19 border districts across Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh.
- An allocation of Rs 4,800 crore, including Rs 2,500 crore exclusively for road connectivity, has been earmarked for 2022-26.

2896. Defence production up 2.6x since FY15, as India pushes for indigenisation
- India’s defence production has grown by double digits over the last decade, more than doubling from Rs 46,429 crore in FY15. In 2023-24, defence production had reached Rs 1.27 lakh crore; the government is expecting it to hit Rs 1.6 lakh crore this fiscal.
- Between 2019-20 and 2023-24, defence production grew at a compounded annual growth rate of 12 percent compared with the 11.2 percent growth witnessed in the first term of the NDA government.
- India’s defence exports reached Rs 21,083 crore in FY24, rising 33 percent from the previous year. Defence exports have expanded nearly 10 times since FY15, when they were just Rs 1,900 crore.
2897. Boost for Make in India: Armenia orders artillery guns developed jointly by India and France
- On 16 january2025 The Trajan 155 mm towed artillery gun system, developed jointly by India and France, has been chosen for induction by Armenia.
- The Developed jointly by L&T and KNDS France, the 52-calibre towed gun system has been tested by the Indian Army .towed artillery gun it has met all qualitative requirements, including operations in marshy plains and high-altitude cold deserts.
- The system has an indigenous content of 82% and around 60% of the project cost is awarded to the private industry, including MSMEs.
2898. Advanced firepower for Indian Army: Nag Mk 2, the anti-tank fire-and-forget guided missile, ready for induction
- The indigenously-developed Nag Mk 2 anti-tank missile successfully completed trials held at the Pokhran Field Range, proving its fire-and-forget precision and is now ready for induction into Indian Army.
- The advanced fire-and-forget technology used in the missile allows Indian Army to lock the missile on to the targets before the launch and strike with extreme precision even in highly complex battle environments.
- Besides, the Nag Missile Carrier version-2 was also field evaluated. With this, the entire weapon system is now ready for induction into the Indian Army.
2899. Real Estate Investment Surge in India: Vestian Report
- Institutional investments in Indian real estate rose 61 per cent to USD 6.8 billion in 2024. Institutional investments stood at USD 4.3 billion in 2023, real estate consultant Vestian said in a statement.
- Foreign investors put 54 per cent of the total investments, while domestic fund 30 per cent and the remaining 16 per cent was co-investment.
- Out of the total institutional investments, the residential sector reported investments worth USD 2 billion, accounting for 30 per cent of share. Investments in housing segment rose by 171 per cent in 2024 over the previous year.
- Commercial assets, which include office, retail, co-working, and hospitality projects, received 35 per cent of the total institutional investments while industrial and warehousing parks 28 per cent.
2900. How IAF, Army are moving towards jointness with integration of air defence systems
- Indian Army’s Akashteer air defence system has been integrated with the Integrated Air Command & Control System (IACCS) for one site. For other sites, integration is said to be in progress.
- The Chief of the Army Staff Gen Upendra Dwivedi during his annual press conference on January 13, 2025 said, “To carry out a convergence between the Indian Air Force and Army, probably by year-end, we will be having due integration between the two—that is the IACCS and Akashteer.”
- The Army requires a total of 455 Akashteer systems. Of these, 107 have been delivered, 105 are expected by March 2025, while delivery of the remaining systems by state-run Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) is expected by March 2027.
