23131. GJEPC signs MoU with eBay to boost retail exports of Gems & Jewellery from India
- The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), apex body of Gem & Jewellery trade in India since 1966 signed an MoU with ES Online Services (India) Pvt. Ltd. (an eBay Group Company) to provide impetus to Indian Gem & Jewellery sellers on the global e marketplace.
- eBay will create a micro site (‘Made in India’ page) for GJEPC Members selling in eBay websites. GJEPC Members subscribing on eBay marketplace(s) will be placed together on this proposed micro site for better accessibility. ES Online will facilitate awareness workshops/ webinars/ seminars to educate GJEPC Members about e-commerce retail exports opportunities and train on policies and best practices in product listings, selling, shipping, and customer services.
- GJEPC will be setting up an eCommerce Promotion and Facilitation Desk (“EPFD”) at all its 6 Regional Offices which will have a dedicated manpower promoting eCommerce amongst GJEPC Members and generating leads. While ES Online to train the manpower at EPFD. “GJEPC’s association with e-Bay will help the gem and jewellery industry to contribute to our Hon’ble Prime Minister’s dream of enabling MSMEs to reach out to the Overseas Customers

23132. Kochi to become the first city with water metro project with launch of electric boats
- Kochi has become the first city with a water metro project as it launches the first in a series of battery-powered electric boats in the city.
- The new project by the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd will likely have an integrated water transport system with 15 identified routes. It will connect 10 islands along a network of routes that span 76 km with a fleet of 78 fast, electrically propelled hybrid ferries plying to 38 jetties.
- This project has a total cost of Rs 819 crore. It uses LTO batteries, which is the latest in battery technology with a capability for fast charging.
23133. Flying taxi startup The ePlane Company raises $5 million
- IIT-Madras incubated 'flying taxi' startup The ePlane Company has raised $5 million in a pre-Series A funding round. This round was led by deep-tech VC firm Speciale Invest and EV/Climate-focused fund Micelio.
- The startup, which is betting on eradicating traffic by building electric planes for short-range intra-city commute, plans to use the funds to hire top-tier talent, advance R&D, and continue to gain airworthiness provision and initiate certification. Founded in 2017 and launched in 2019, The ePlane Company is the brainchild of aerospace engineering
- The company aspires to build a compact flying taxi e200 for passengers, as well as cargo transport that could help reduce congestion on the roads and emissions from ground transport and lower the risk of road accidents. The startup has already test flown the lab-scale prototype of the e200 and is on course to do a full-scale prototype in April 2022.
23134. L&T bags third order for Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project
- Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has bagged a third order for the Mumbai Ahmedabad High Speed Rail popularly referred to as the bullet train project from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd, the engineering major said
- While the company did not disclose the exact order size, it said it was “significant” and in the range of Rs 1,000-2,500 crore. At 10:45 IST, shares of L&T were trading at 1922.95 on BSE, up almost 1% from the previous close.
- The project undertaken, called ‘MAHSR-C-5’, entails design and construction of civil and building works for a double-line high-speed railway of a length of 8.198 km. L&T had previously won two other packages (MAHSR – C-4 and MAHSR C-6) and is in the process of executing them. In October 2020, it won ‘MAHSR – C-4’, its biggest ever engineering, procurement and construction job worth around Rs 25,000 crore.
23135. Mango exports expected to surge after 2-year gap
- After a gap of two years, the export of mangoes and by-products is expected to see a spurt after India and the US agreed to simplify the rules, Apeda, the agency responsible for the export of food products, has said.
- the mango season is nearly four months away, export of pomegranates is expected to commence soon and shipments from India can move through the year as there are three crops in the country
- Exports of mango (including by-products) to the US were estimated at close to Rs 100 crore two years ago

23136. First-ever Startup India Innovation Week to be held from Monday
- The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) is organizing the first-ever Startup India Innovation Week from today to 16th of this month.
- This virtual week-long innovation celebration aims to commemorate the 75th year of India’s independence ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and is designed to showcase the spread and depth of entrepreneurship across India. Interestingly, in the startup world, 2021 has been recognised as the 'year of unicorns,' with 40 Plus unicorns added in the year.
- India is emerging as a global innovation hub, boasting the world's third-largest startup ecosystem. DPIIT has recognised more than 61 thousand startups as on date. The startups representing 55 industries, spread across 633 districts with at least one startup from every State and UT of the country have created over 6 lakh jobs since 2016. 45 per cent of the startups are from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and 45 per cent of them are represented by women entrepreneurs.
23137. बेंगलुरू में उत्तर कर्नाटक का स्वाद परोसने वाला एक छोटा सा भोजनालय, जिसे चार प्रवासी भाई चलाते हैं
- श्री सिद्धेश्वर, बेलगावी के ऐनापुर गाँव के चार भाई एक ऐसे रेस्टोरेंट को चला रहे हैं जहां पर उत्तर कर्नाटक के ज्वार की रोटी, अवलाक्की, गिरमिट और होलिगे जैसे पारंपरिक और पौष्टिक व्यंजन परोसे जाते हैं।
- इस भोजनालय की कहानी 2013 में शुरू हुई जब चार भाई - रायप्पा, नरसीमा, प्रशांत और श्रीसाई - काम की तलाश में उत्तरी कर्नाटक के बेलगावी जिले के अपने पैतृक ऐनापुर गांव से बेंगलुरु आए थे, सबसे बड़े भाई रैयप्पा ने खाना पकाने की अपनी प्रतिभा को निखारा और अपने छोटे भाइयों को यह कला सिखाई। भाइयों को अपने पैतृक गांव से 500 किलोमीटर से अधिक दूर बेंगलुरु में एक रेस्टोरेंट शुरू करने का विचार आया। अपने रिश्तेदारों से कर्ज लेने के बाद, उन्होंने दक्षिण बेंगलुरु के एसजी पाल्या इलाके में वेंकटेश्वर लेआउट में एक दुकान किराए पर ली।
- अन्य क्षेत्रों की तरह, COVID-19 महामारी के कारण श्री सिद्धेश्वर को भी भारी आर्थिक नुकसान हुआ। 2020 में लॉकडाउन के बाद दो महीने तक, भाइयों ने अपनी बचत से खाना बनाया और घर वापस जाने से पहले मुफ्त में भोजन वितरित किया। एक बार जब चीजें बेहतर हुईं, तो वे अपने रेस्तरां को फिर से शुरू करने के लिए बेंगलुरु लौट आए।
23138. India’s formal sector employment up by 0.2 million in July-September quarter
- India’s formal sector employment jumped by 0.2 million in the July-September quarter of 2021 compared to the April-June quarter across 11,503 establishments surveyed, the labour ministry said
- As per the quarterly employment survey for the second quarter of the current fiscal, 31.0 million jobs were created in the country in the given quarter compared to 30.8 million in the April-June quarter of 2021.
- As per the QES, of the total employment estimated in the selected nine sectors, nearly 39% was in manufacturing followed by 22% in education and 10% in both health as well as IT/BPOs sectors. Employment in trade and transport sectors accounted for 5.3% and 4.6% respectively.

- इसी तरह नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्रालय ने जनता की प्रतिक्रिया के लिए ‘राष्ट्रीय वायु खेल नीति (NASP)’ का एक मसौदा जारी किया है। मसौदा नीति आयोग की वेबसाइट पर उपलब्ध है। जिस पर लोग 31 जनवरी 2022, शाम 17:00 बजे तक सुझाव दे सकते हैं।
- हवाई खेलों के लिए उपयोग किए जाने वाले प्रमुख उपकरण भी संबंधित एयर स्पोर्ट्स एसोसिएशन के साथ पंजीकृत किए जाएंगे। DGCA के DigitalSky प्लेटफॉर्म पर भारत के हवाई क्षेत्र का नक्शा प्रकाशित किया गया है।

23140. प्रधानमंत्री तमिलनाडु को देंगे बड़ी सौगात, 11 मेडिकल कॉलेजों का करेंगे उद्घाटन
- प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी बुधवार को वीडियो कॉन्फ्रेंसिंग के जरिए तमिलनाडु में 11 नये सरकारी मेडिकल कॉलेजों का उद्घाटन करेंगे।
- 12 जनवरी को शाम 4 बजे मेडिकल कॉलेजों के साथ-साथ चेन्नई में केंद्रीय शास्त्रीय तमिल संस्थान के नये परिसर का भी उद्घाटन किया जाएगा।नये मेडिकल कॉलेज लगभग 4000 करोड़ रुपये की अनुमानित लागत से स्थापित किए जा रहे हैं
- चेन्नई में केंद्रीय शास्त्रीय तमिल संस्थान (सीआईसीटी) के एक नये परिसर की स्थापना भारतीय विरासत की रक्षा और संरक्षण और शास्त्रीय भाषाओं को बढ़ावा देने के लिए प्रधानमंत्री के दृष्टिकोण के अनुरूप है। नया परिसर पूरी तरह से केंद्र सरकार द्वारा वित्त पोषित है और 24 करोड़ रुपये की लागत से बनाया गया है।
