23101. Soybean meal export takes a hit
- High prices of soyabean meal in the international market have hit overseas shipment, denting exporters missing out on the peak export season.
- Soyabean meal exports in December are estimated at 90,000 ton as against 3.4 lakh ton in the corresponding period a year ago, according to Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA).
- in the current oil year until December 3.8 lakh ton soyabean meal is exported from the country as against 6.9 lakh ton in the same period.
- SOPA had estimated soyabean output at 119 lakh ton, up 14 per cent from the previous year. In Madhya Pradesh, soyabean production was estimated at 52 lakh ton as against 41.7 lakh ton last year.

23102. To promote Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Modi government to shelve multiple defence import projects
- In a major push towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the military sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government is going to shelve a number of defence import projects being acquired through the Buy (Global) route.
- A high-level meeting of the Defence Ministry will take place virtually on Wednesday in which all the import projects under Buy (Global) category would be reviewed and are likely to be scrapped or put on hold by the government, government sources told ANI.

23103. Sri Lanka inaugurates luxury train with help from India, connects Jaffna to Colombo
- India and Sri Lanka crossed another significant landmark in bilateral ties as the island country launched a luxury train service with the help of a Line of Credit offered by India. The luxury train service connects the country's Tamil-dominated Jaffna district to the capital city, Colombo.
- The intercity rail service with all facilities was launched on Sunday, where India provided AC Diesel Multiple Units (AC DMUs) under the loan facility. The luxury train will travel from Colombo's Mount Lavinia suburb to Jaffna's Kankesanthurai port suburb in the north, covering a distance of approximately 386 km.
- India's total development portfolio in Sri Lanka is over USD 3.5 billion, of which around USD 570 million are purely grant projects," the Indian High Commission said in a statement. - Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked states to develop a state-specific export strategy and reviewed development projects worth Rs 1.41 lakh crore spread across 10 states and union territories
- Reforms are beneficial only when one performs and this is the way forward to transform the country, Modi said as he chaired the meeting of PRAGATI -- an ICT-based multi-modal platform for Pro-Active Governance and and Timely Implementation involving central and state governments.
- In the previous 32 such meetings, a total of 275 projects worth Rs 12.5 lakh crore have been reviewed, along with 47 programmes/schemes and grievances across 17 sectors that were taken up.

- India's palm oil imports set to jump as tax cut lures refiners Higher imports by India, the world's biggest buyer of palm oil, will support benchmark Malaysian palm oil prices that hit their highest level in eight years this month, but could weigh on U.S. soyoil futures.
- India slashed import tax on crude palm oil (CPO) to 27.5% from 37.5% as it tries to curb rising food prices.
- India's imports of palm oil are set to rise by as much as 100,000 tonnes a month from December after the government slashed import tax on the tropical oil, making it cheaper than rival edible oils, industry officials said.

23106. Steel import duty hike wins support
- Mismatch in demand and supply because of a failure to start operation of 14 mines in Odisha which were auctioned in February
- A China-induced spike in iron ore prices has disrupted the steel sector, a situation made worse by the parity in the import and domestic price of steel that will necessitate a hike in import duties to protect the industry, analysts said.
- Iron ore exports have surged 70.3 per cent to 29.2 million tonnes (mt) in the first half of the current fiscal compared with the corresponding period a year ago. As much as 27 million tonnes of iron ore were shipped to China which are the highest level seen since 2011-12.

23107. November month's Maruti Suzuki Sales data| मारुति की बिक्री 1.7 फीसदी बढ़ी, निर्यात में हुई 29.7 फीसदी की बढ़ोतरी
- मारुति सुजुकी ने नवंबर माह के बिक्री और निर्यात के आंकड़े जारी कर दिए हैं. दोनों में काफी बढ़त दर्ज की गई है. नवंबर माह में कंपनी की बिक्री 1.53 लाख यूनिट रही है, जो आंकड़े अनुमान से कम रहे हैं.
- नवंबर में मारुति की कुल बिक्री सालाना आधार पर 1.7 फीसदी बढ़कर 1.53 लाख यूनिट रही है, जो पिछले साल के नवंबर माह में 1.51 लाख यूनिट रही थी.
- नवंबर में मारुति की कुल घरेलू बिक्री सालाना आधार पर 0.4 फीसदी बढ़कर 1.44 लाख यूनिट रही है, जो पिछले साल के नवंबर माह में 1.43 लाख यूनिट रही थी.

23108. ‘Soyabean oil from Nepal affecting farmers, refiners’
- The Solvent Extractors’ Association (SEA) of India said that there has been an influx of soybean oil from Nepal into India hurting domestic refiners and farmers, and leading to the loss of revenue to the government.
- It has also requested the government to take immediate steps to regulate inflow of refined edible oils in the country.
- It said that the current import duty on refined palmolein and on soya refined is 45 per cent plus Swachh Bharat Cess at 10 per cent. This means at current values, the government is losing around ₹35,000 per tonne on refined soybean oil, and around ₹30,000 per tonne on palmolein oil coming via Nepal.

23109. BoAt becomes fifth-largest global wearable device company by shipment: IDC report
- The third-quarter report from IDC titled the ‘Worldwide Quarterly Wearable Device Tracker’ shows that Delhi-based boAT is only behind Apple, Xioami, Huawei, and Samsung.
- The report added that boAt focuses solely on the Indian market (a rapidly growing market for wearables), and primarily sells hearables.
- Post-lockdown in India, the company has benefitted from a strong marketing campaign and tie-ins with local cricket teams. While ambitions remain strong for the company, it lacks the global presence and supply chain of its many competitors.

23110. तीस साल में पहली बार भारत से चावल खरीदेगा चीन, भारतीय कारोबारियों को मिला 1 लाख टन का ऑर्डर
- पिछले तीन दशक में पहली बार चीन ने भारत से चावल की खरीद शुरू की है. इंडियन इंडस्ट्री ऑफिशियल्स के मुताबिक चीन ने यह खरीद सख्त आपूर्ति और भारत की तरफ से जबरदस्त डिस्काउंटेड ऑफर पर चावल मिलने के कारण शुरू किया है. भारत दुनिया भर में चावल का सबसे बड़ा निर्यातक है और चीन सबसे बड़ा आयातक है.
- चीन हर साल 40 लाख टन चावल का आयात करता है. इतनी अधिक मात्रा में चावल के आयात के बावजूद उसने क्वालिटी इशूज को लेकर पिछले तीन दशक में भारत से आयात नहीं किया.
- भारतीय कारोबारियों को दिसंबर से फरवरी के बीच शिपमेंट्स के लिए चीन से 1 लाख टन टूटे चावल के निर्यात का ऑर्डर मिला है. इंडस्ट्री ऑफिशियल्स के मुताबिक ये चावल 300 डॉलर (22,132.60 रुपये) प्रति टन के भाव से चीन को निर्यात किए जाएंगे.
