23141. Cargo ship over Brahmaputra-Haldia in 2022: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal
- guwahati: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal is hopeful that the sailing of cargo ships will start over the Brahmaputra towards the later part of 2022. He feels that this will unlock the economic potential of the Northeast, besides allowing the landlocked region's direct access to the international trading routes.
- The Bangladesh government is also working on the Jamuna river to make the 2000-km-long waterway from Sadiya to Haldia via Bangladesh a smooth passage with support from India. For digging of the Bangladesh part (Indo-Bangladesh Protocol route), the ministry has sanctioned Rs 305 crore.
- Through his vision of Gati Shakti, the Prime Minister foresaw that the waterways would be the cheapest transportation mode carrying cargos loads as heavy as 2000-MT. The northeastern region will play a critical role in resuscitating the economic prosperity of India.

23142. Over 14,000 tons of Liquid Medical Oxygen transported to Covid Care Centers by Railways
- Indian Railway has transported more than 14 thousand tons of Medical Liquid Oxygen, LMO to the Hospitals and Covid care centers in the state of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand and Delhi through its 8 hundred 58 Special freight trains run by Northern Railway
- This is about 50 percent of the total LMO movement by Indian Railways. Northern Railway also transported a record 26 million ton of food-grain between April and December in last year, to different states to support the largest food security programme in the world, the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana.
- Railway has maintained an uninterrupted supply of medicines, injections and consumables to the health centers. RT-PCR tests are being done at the centers.
23143. PM lauds vaccination of over 2 crore children in 15 to 18 age group
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged everyone to maintain the momentum of vaccination and has asked everyone to follow Covid appropriate protocol.
- In a tweet, Mr Modi expressed happiness that within a week, over two crore children between the age group of 15 to 18 have been administered the first dose of the COVID -19 vaccine.

23144. India's vaccination coverage crosses 151.58 crore mark; Recovery rate stands at 96.98%
- Over 151 crore 58 lakh COVID-vaccine doses have been administered so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive in the country.
- Over 40 thousand recoveries in the last 24 hours have increased the total recoveries to more than 3 crore 44 lakh.
- A total of 1 lakh 59 thousand 632 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours. This has taken the daily positivity rate to 10.21 percent.

- The Indian Army examined 15 exclusive camouflage patterns, four different types of designs and eight different fabric options before narrowing down on the final combat uniform it is set to adopt later this month
- it can take a couple of years for the Army to completely switch over to the new combat uniform with the current stocking and provisioning systems in place. 23146. Iran offers to transfer Indian wheat to Afghanistan
- Iran has offered to transfer Indian to Afghanistan. The proposal was made by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian during his telephonic conversation with India's Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar
- The conversation took place on January 8 and came as India sent 3rd humanitarian support to Afghanistan after Taliban captured power in August 2021.
- Last week, India sent 2 batches of humanitarian aid to the country. First one was sent on January 1st and the second was sent on January 7th. The aid consisted of medical assistance. November 2021 saw India delivering 1.6 tons of medical assistance to Afghanistan through World Health Organization (WHO).

23147. Navy submariner turns pilot, India gets its first 'flying dolphin'
- He got independent charge of submarine on June 28, 2011 and achieved the Dolphin Badge. He also achieved commercial pilot licence on July 27, 2020 from Director General of Civil Aviation on completing 205 hours of flying training, as confirmed on July 3, 2021.”
- IndiGo and Alliance Air have ATR in their fleet which are mainly used for regional flights. The Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records have named him to be the first submariner-turned-pilot from the region.
- India has got its first “flying dolphin” with an ex-submariner leaving the deep seas for the blue skies. Lt Commander (retd) Vivek Chaudhary, 38, completed his 10-year-tenure as a short service commission officer with the Indian Navy in 2017.
23148. India to test marine version of Rafale jet today
- will test the Rafale-M (Marine) jet for use on its Vikramaditya aircraft carrier as well as the indigenous aircraft carrier 1 (IAC1), which will be deployed as the INS Vikrant, at the INS Hansa in Goa, a shore-based test facility.
- The marine version of the Rafale jet has a reinforced under-carriage and nose wheel, a bigger arrester hook, an integrated ladder and other minor differences from the Rafale currently in use in the Indian Air Force.
- The Vikrant is likely to be commissioned by August 15, and if the Rafale M is chosen, India may seek to lease four or five of the aircraft for immediate deployment. The Vikramaditya is currently equipped with two squadrons of aging MiG-29.

23149. 5 Unique Railway Stations in India and visa required to visit a station
- , there are more than 7000 railway stations in India. Some railway stations are known for their beauty and many for their long journeys. Some railway stations in India are famous because of their cleanliness.
- Bhawani Mandi railway station is located on the Delhi-Mumbai railway line. It has links to two different states as well. Due to the division between two different states, every train that stops at Bhawani Mandi station has its engine in Rajasthan and its coach in Madhya Pradesh.
- Attari railway station in Amritsar, located on the border of India and Pakistan, is strictly prohibited without a visa.
- There are no signboards seen. When trains started operating from this station for the first time in 2011, the railways thought of naming it as Barkichampi, but due to the protests by locals, this station still remains unnamed.
- The station was initially named Rainagarh, but locals made an official complaint to the railway board to change the name of the station.
