20091. L&T Dispatches Steam Generator For 700 MWe Reactors To Be Set Up At Nuclear Power Project In Haryana's Fatehabad
- Engineering and construction major Larsen and Toubro has dispatched the fourth steam generator for Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited's (NPCIL) indigenously designed 700 MWe pressurised heavy water reactors (PHWR) to be set up at Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana in Haryana's Fatehabad district, the company said in a statement on Thursday (10 March).
- the entire order was completed six months ahead of schedule creating a global benchmark in the nuclear manufacturing industry despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Steam Generators (SG) are heat exchangers which convert water into steam using the heat produced in a nuclear reactor core. It acts as a boundary between radiated and outside environment in a PHWR.

20092. Training prog on e-GPBI underway
- A three-day state-level hands-on training programme on ‘On-boarding panchayati raj institutions (PRI) through e-Gram Swaraj-PFMS Interface (e-GBPI)’ for online payment of the 15th Finance Commission Grants is underway at the State Institute of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj (SIRD&PR) here from 10 to 12 March.
- The e-Gram Swaraj portal has very low data/uploading of details as required,” and requested the resource persons to “not only give hands-on training to people in the field but also find out where the problem lies and the best solution, so that Arunachal Pradesh can get hundred percent on-boarding of all PRIs in a fixed timeline.

20093. Exide ties up with Chinese firm for lithium-ion cell manufacturing in India
- Taking concrete steps towards setting up a green-field multi-gigawatt lithium-ion cell manufacturing plant, storage battery major Exide Industries has entered into a multi-year technical collaboration agreement with China’s SVOLT Energy Technology.
- the Kolkata-based company’s board of directors had accorded an in-principle approval in December last year to set up a lithium-ion cell manufacturing plant in the country as it has participated in the government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell manufacturing
- SVOLT is a global high-tech company and is engaged in the business of production and development of lithium-ion batteries and battery systems for electric vehicles as well as for energy storage. Its product portfolio includes battery materials, cells, modules, packs, and battery management systems as well as energy storage products.
20094. India’s northeastern states pitch for investment in tourism sector at Dubai Expo
- As a part of the Northeast fortnight at the India Pavilion in EXPO2020 Dubai, the visiting delegation from the 8 states along with Invest India, hosted a session on ‘Tourism Opportunities in the Northeast’
- The session, aimed at highlighting the uniqueness of the region, showcased the vast tourism opportunities in the eight northeastern (NE) states of India.
- The participating states presented the unique natural strengths and policy initiatives undertaken by the states that have played a significant role in boosting the tourism industry of northeastern India.

20095. Mizoram : First-Of-Its-Kind ‘Heart Wellness Screening Camp’ Organized At Champhai District
- The Serchhip Battalion of Assam Rifles organized first-of-its-kind ‘Heart Wellness Camp’ at Champhai District of Mizoram.
- The primary aim of this camp is to provide cardiology-related advice and medical facilities to the local populace, as the area being addressed lacks the specialists required to manage emergency and serious situations.
- The team of Doctors initiated Cardio evaluation of 292 patients and identified 15 patients who would require surgical procedures. The medical camp was actively supported by a team of doctors from Trinity hospital in Aizawl.
- The entire project was funded by the AR civic action programme, and it has turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the people. Furthermore, this medical camp is the first of its kind in the entire Northeast, with such well-known doctors assisting the locals.

20096. Indian Govt Invites Drone Industry To Apply For Rs 120 Crore PLI Scheme
- The Indian government is now looking for active participation from the country’s drone industry and wants companies to apply for its special production linked incentive or PLI scheme that was announced in September 2021
- The scheme is giving drone companies a chance to get a total incentive of Rs 120 crore which is covered over the period of three financial years.
- All these changes are expected to work in favour of local manufacturing. And the Government foresees an investment of over Rs 5,000 crore over the next three years. In addition to that, it is likely to generate 10,000 direct jobs during this period.

20097. Mizoram to become fulcrum of NE region’s growth through Kaladan project: Vice President
- Mizoram will soon serve as the “all-important gateway” of South East Asian economies and become a fulcrum in the development of the North-eastern region through the bilateral Kaladan Multi Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) involving neighbouring Myanmar.
- The KMMTTP will connect the Kolkata with Sittwe port of Myanmar by sea. It will link Sittwe with Paletwa in that country via the Kaladan river, and from Paletwa to Mizoram by road.
- Addressing the MLAs of Mizoram in the state assembly, Naidu said that the KMMTTP when completed will transform the economy of not just the state but the entire North-eastern region and help accelerate economic growth and development.
- Within the renewed Act East Policy of the Government of India, Mizoram is set to occupy the centre stage as it will serve as the all-important gateway of South East Asian economies into the region as well as into the country.

20098. Indian companies may soon make Xiaomi, Vivo ,Oppo phones for export: Report
- At least three Chinese major smartphone companies Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo are currently in talks with Indian manufacturers Lava International Ltd and Dixon Technologies Ltd to produce mobile phones locally for exports across the globe.
- The Centre introduced the Production Linked Incentive Program in 2020 in a bid to boost manufacturing/assembling of phones in India. Since then, mobile exports have skyrocketed and are expected to surpass Rs 450 billion this year, a 30-fold jump in five years.
- The program aims to create $150 billion in mobile production in the next five to six years. Apple’s primary suppliers Foxconn Technology Group, Pegatron Corp, and Wistron Corp were among the first to commit to the program, alongside Indian firms Lava and Dixon. Lava is already exporting to the US and Africa while Dixon makes Motorola phones for the US market.
20099. Boost last-mile connectivity, FM Nirmala Sitharaman exhorts businesses in North-East
- Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 10th Mar exhorted businesses in North-Eastern India to approach banks for funds and explore export markets.
- Speaking at an interactive session with entrepreneurs in Guwahati, Sitharaman said businesses in that region should also tap potential in areas like aggregation of local produce and improve last-mile connectivity, for better supply of goods and services. This would ultimately spur economic growth
- The government’s Rs 50,000-crore loan guarantee scheme for Covid-affected sectors (which is a part of the Rs 5 lakh-crore guaranteed credit programme) will be extended by three months beyond March 31. The extension of the scheme, meant for bolstering health infrastructure in areas other than the eight top cities, will allow businesses more time to do their due diligence for investments.
- Under the scheme, the government will offer guarantee up to 50%; however, in case of an aspirational district, it will go up to 75%. The official guarantee offers banks some comfort to extend the loans to the beneficiaries at a cheaper rate, as the risks are limited.

20100. Assam Government Intends To Establish Mid-Level Startup Infrastructures In Colleges & Educational Institutions
- The Assam Chief Minister – Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that state government is planning to establish mid-level start-up infra in colleges and universities, as part of an attempt to encourage the growth of new firms in the northeastern state.
- The Assam Government and the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBOI) have also decided to create a joint fund to support the start-up businesses in the state.
- The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed stakeholders from Assam’s trade and industry, as well as other parts of the North-Eastern region, at a post-budget engagement event in Guwahati.
