20901. Army begins process to acquire 350 light tanks

- The Indian Army on Friday began the process to procure around 350 light tanks in a phased manner as part of its efforts to strengthen combat capability in mountainous regions.
- The Army issued a Request for Information (RFI) for procurement of the tanks which are planned to be procured under the ''Make-in-India'' initiative.
- "The light tank must have the versatility to execute operations in varying terrain conditions across diverse threats and equipment profiles of the adversaries," according to the RFI.

- भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन (इसरो) गगनयान मिशन शुरू होने के बाद उससे संपर्क बरकरार रखने में मदद के लिए एक संचार उपग्रह लांच करेगा। सूत्रों ने यह जानकारी दी।
- उन्होंने कहा कि गगनयान अभियान के अंतिम चरण में पहुंचने से पहले यह उपग्रह लांच किया जाएगा, जो अंतरिक्ष यात्रियों को लोअर अर्थ ऑर्बिट (एलईओ) भेजेगा। मानव रहित इस अभियान का पहला चरण दिसंबर में शुरू होगा।
- सूत्रों ने कहा कि हम अपना उपग्रह भेजने की योजना बना रहे हैं, जो एक संचार उपग्रह के तौर पर काम करेगा। उन्होंने कहा कि 800 करोड़ रुपये की इस परियोजना को मंजूरी दे दी गई है और इस पर काम जारी है।

- साल 2020 में सैन्य खर्च करने वाला भारत दुनिया का तीसरा सबसे बड़ा देश रहा है। सैन्य खर्च के लिहाज से पहले स्थान पर अमेरिका और दूसरे स्थान पर चीन हैं।
- दुनिया में हथियार कारोबार एवं सैन्य खर्च की निगरानी करने वाली संस्था स्टॉकहोम इंटरनेशनल पीस रिसर्च इंस्टीट्यूट (सिपरी) ने सोमवार को प्रकाशित अपनी रिपोर्ट में इस बात की जानकारी दी है। रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक विश्व के कुल सैन्य खर्च में अमेरिकी हिस्सा 39 प्रतिशत, चीन का 13 प्रतिशत और भारत का 3.7 फीसदी है।
- सिपरी की रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि साल 2020 में अमेरिका ने सैन्य खर्च के रूप में 778 अरब डॉलर खर्च किए जबकि चीन ने 252 अरब डॉलर और भारत ने 72.9 अरब डॉलर खर्च किए।

- स्वदेश में बने हल्के लड़ाकू विमान तेजस की हवा से हवा में मार करने की हथियार क्षमता में बुधवार को पांचवीं पीढ़ी का पाइथन-5 प्रक्षेपास्त्र जुड़ गया। डीआरडीओ ने पाइथन-5 मिसाइल का परीक्षण किया जो कामयाब रहा।
- रक्षा अनुसंधान विकास संस्थान (डीआरडीओ) ने बुधवार को एक बयान में यह जानकारी दी। डीआरडीओ ने बताया कि इस परीक्षण का लक्ष्य तेजस पर पहले से ही एकीकृत डर्बी बियॉन्ड विजुअल रेंड (बीवीआर) एएएम की बढ़ी हुई क्षमता को सत्यापित करना था।
- डीआरडीओ ने कहा कि मंगलवार को गोवा में किए गए इस परीक्षण प्रक्षेपण से विभिन्न चुनौतीपूर्ण परिदृश्यों में इसके प्रदर्शन के प्रमाणन के लिए प्रक्षेपास्त्र परीक्षणों की श्रृंखला पूरी हुई।

- सीमा पर अक्सर दुश्मन पर सीधे नजर रखने के लिए सेटेलाइट से निगरानी करना ही एकमात्र विकल्प होता है। इसके लिए अब तक भारतीय सेना विदेशी तकनीक पर आधारित सेटेलाइट ट्रैकिंग सिस्टम पर निर्भर है। आने वाले समय में अपना देश इस दिशा में भी आत्मनिर्भर बन जाएगा।
- देहरादून स्थित ऑर्डनेंस फैक्ट्री ने स्वदेशी तकनीक पर आधारित ट्रैकिंग सिस्टम को विकसित करने का काम शुरू कर दिया है।
- ऑर्डनेंस फैक्ट्री के महाप्रबंधक पीके दीक्षित के मुताबिक डे विजन, नाइट विजन व लेजर तकनीक के मेल (कॉम्बिनेशन) के माध्यम से ट्रैकिंग सिस्टम बनाया जा रहा है। इसकी लागत करीब 50 लाख रुपये प्रति सिस्टम आएगी।

- भारतीय कोस्टगार्ड (आईसीजी) के जहाज ‘सजग’ को राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सलाहकार अजीत डोभाल (Ajit Doval) ने शनिवार को कमीशन किया. आईसीजी के आधिकारिक बयान के अनुसार, सजग 105वें अपतटीय गश्ती जहाजों (ओपीवी) की श्रृंखला में तीसरा है.
- गोवा शिपयार्ड लिमिटेड (GSL Goa) द्वारा इसे पूरी तरह स्वदेशी रूप से डिजाइन और निर्मित किया गया है. विजन ‘मेक इन इंडिया’ के अनुरूप आत्मनिर्भर भारत का ये एक बेहतरीन उदाहरण है.
- यह उन्नत तकनीक, नेविगेशन, संचार उपकरण, सेंसर और मशीनरी से सुसज्जित है. आईसीजी के अनुसार, पोत 40/60 बोफोर्स तोप और एफसीएस के साथ दो 12.7 मिमी एसआरसीजी तोपों से सुसज्जित है.

- A The three helicopters, made by the Centre-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, were inducted at the Indian Naval Station (INS) Dega, Eastern Naval Command (ENC), in Visakhapatnam, an official statement said.
- These helicopters are fitted with modern surveillance radar and electro-optical equipment, which enable them to undertake the role of maritime reconnaissance in addition to providing long-range search and rescue, both by day and night.
- In addition to special operations capabilities, ALH MK-III is also fitted with a heavy machine gun to undertake constabulary missions.

- The area around the Statue of Unity is being planned to become an EV-only area.
- The Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority (SOUADTGA) on Sunday said it will develop the “country’s first electric vehicles-only area” in Gujarat’s Kevadia. Before this, the area in close proximity to the Taj Mahal was declared to be EVs-only in 1998.
- The announcement comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Kevadia, which houses the world’s tallest Statue of Unity, will become the country’s first electric vehicle city.

- The canopy severance system (CSS) provides safe passage by pre-weakening or severing the canopy (the transparent enclosure over the cockpit of fighter planes) to help the pilot escape in the shortest possible time.
- Pune-based DRDO facilities Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and High Energy Material Research Laboratory (HEMRL) developed CSS for indigenous aircraft, including LCA Tejas, HJT-36 and HTT-40.
