- महाराष्ट्र ने नासिक में निफाड तालुका की रहने वाली 46 वर्षीया संगीता बोरासते अंगूर की खेती करतीं हैं और उनकी लगभग 50% उपज बाहर के देशों में एक्सपोर्ट होती है
- वह हर साल लगभग 40 लाख रुपये की कमाई करतीं हैं, जिसमें से 15 लाख रुपये उनका प्रॉफिट होता है।
- संगीता ने द बेटर इंडिया को बताया, “1990 में मेरी शादी अरुण से हुई और मैं निफाड आ गई। उस समय मैं महज 15 साल की थी। अरुण बैंक में काम करते थे। उसी बीच घरेलू विवाद की वजह से बंटवारा हुआ, जिसमें हमें 10 एकड़ ज़मीन मिली। इस ज़मीन पर खेती करने के लिए अरुण ने बैंक की नौकरी छोड़ दी और खेती की शुरूआत की।”

- कर्नाटक के बेंगलुरू की रहने वाली राजा राजेश्वरी जब बैंक में नौकरी करतीं थीं तो उनके पास समय का अभाव रहता था लेकिन रिटायरमेंट के बाद 63 वर्षीया राजेश्वरी ने अपने गार्डनिंग के शौक को पूर करने का मन बनाया और शुरू कर दी टैरेस गार्डनिंग।
- बैंक मैनेजर पद से रिटायर राजेश्वरी ने द बेटर इंडिया को बताया, “ गार्डनिंग की शुरूआत मैंने 2-3 गमलों से की, उसमें फूल के पौधे लगाए, लेकिन सभी पौधे कुछ दिनों में सूख गए। पौधे सूखने से मुझे काफी निराशा हुई। लेकिन, मुझे अहसास हुआ कि अभी मुझे शायद बागवानी का ज्यादा अनुभव नहीं है। इसीलिए मैंने एक स्थानीय गार्डनर से बागवानी के संबंध में जानकारियाँ प्राप्त की। इसके बाद, उन्होंने मुझे बताया की लाल मिट्टी बागवानी के लिए उचित नहीं है और मुझे बागवानी के जैविक तरीकों को अपनाना चाहिए।“
- इसके बाद, राजेश्वरी ने किचन वेस्ट, दही, नीम ऑयल आदि से अपने पौधों के लिए मिट्टी को तैयार किया और इससे उन्हें काफी बेहतर परिणाम देखने को मिले। धीरे-धीरे, राजेश्वरी का बागवानी के प्रति जुनून बढ़ता गया और इसी का नतीजा है कि आज उनके 800 वर्ग फीट के छत पर 20 प्रकार के फल-फूल और सब्जियों के 200 से अधिक के पौधे हैं।

- Akshay Parkar started Parkar Biryani House, a roadside joint selling “5-star biryani” and other North Indian cuisine, after losing his job due to COVID-19
- Akshay was a former chef at Taj Group of Hotels and Internatinoal Cruise ships.
- Speaking about setting up his biryani stall, Akshay says, “A vada pav snack vendor from my neighbourhood went out of business and was willing to hand over his business space to me. I decided to cook the biryani at home and sell it during the evenings on the street.”

- फिरोजाबाद जिला के खैरगढ़ ब्लॉक स्थित बवाइन गाँव के रविंद्र ने 2006 में बेसिक शिक्षा विभाग में शिक्षक की नौकरी शुरू की थी लेकिन 2017 में उन्होंने यह नौकरी छोड़ दी और बागवानी की शुरूआत कर दी।
- रविंद्र ने गार्डन में खास तौर पर सीरियस पेरूविआनस, इचनोफेसिस, हावर्थिया कैक्टस जिबरा, फेयरी कैसल, बॉल कैक्टस आदि समेत कैक्टस की एक हजार के करीब प्रजातियां उगाई हैं। इसमें हंगरी और हांगकांग से मंगाए गए पौधे भी हैं। वह स्टेपेलिया, हरनिया, आरबिया, अगेव, एलोवेरा जैसे कैक्टस की ही बिक्री से करीब 2.5 लाख रूपये सालाना कमाई कर रहे हैं।
- रविंद्र एक एकड़ में नींबू और आंवला की भी खेती कर रहे हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि नींबू और आंवला की खेती बेहद आसान है क्योंकि इन दोनों फसलों में नुकसान कम होता है। रविंद्र नींबू और आंवले से भी 2.5 लाख रूपये सालाना कमा लेते हैं।

- नागपुर स्थित केंद्रीय जांच ब्यूरो में पुलिस अधीक्षक के रूप में सेवारत आईपीएस निर्मला देवी की कहानी कुछ ऐसी ही है। वह मूल रूप से तमिलनाडु के कोयंबटूर के अलंदुराई गाँव की रहने वाली हैं और एक आईपीएस अधिकारी बनने का उनका सफर काफी मुश्किलों से भरा रहा है।
- साल 2004 में ग्रेजुएशन करने के बाद, निर्मला ने एक निजी बैंक में नौकरी शुरू कर दी, ताकि माँ को थोड़ी मदद मिले। इसी दौरान उनकी माँ ने निर्मला को एक प्रशासनिक अधिकारी बनाने के सपनों के बारे में बताया।
- निर्मला के जी तोड़ मेहनत और माँ के उत्साहवर्धक शब्दों ने आखिरकार 2008 में अपना रंग दिखाया और अपने चौथे प्रयास में उन्होंने 272वें रैंक के साथ यूपीएससी में सफलता हासिल की।

- couple from Kottayam district in Kerala, who with little or no means, has discovered a new way to grow rice during the lockdown. “During the lockdown, many cultivated different crops, but I couldn’t find anyone cultivating paddy, so I thought of growing it,” Titus Sam Joseph tells The Better India.
- Titus and his wife, Celine, cultivated paddy on their terrace using mineral water bottles. “Without much hope, my wife and I began the paddy cultivation process. Our first step was to collect 175 empty mineral water bottles from a nearby shop, which didn’t cost us a dime. The bottles were cut horizontally and the lower part of the bottle was filled with water.
- The top portion that tapers was then turned upside down and filled with cow dung, soil, and then inserted into the lower part of the bottle, so as to submerge it in water. After this the seeds are planted,” says Pala KSRTC station master Titus.

- मेघालय के 49 वर्षीय लेयलैंड मारक का, जो न सिर्फ खेती (Aloe Vera Farming) के शौकीन हैं, बल्कि वह एक उद्यमी, कम्युनिटी लीडर, शिक्षक और एक पिता भी हैं।
- लेयलैंड ने द बेटर इंडिया को बताया, “मैं एक अमीर परिवार में पैदा नहीं हुआ था। मेरे माता-पिता गरीब किसान थे और मुझे लेकर अपने कुल सात बच्चों की परवरिश की जिम्मेदारी उनके कंधों पर थी। हालात पहले से ही मुश्किल थे, लेकिन यह और बदतर तब हो गये जब एक दुर्घटना में मेरे माता-पिता की मौत हो गई। तब से जीवन में हमेशा एक कठिन सबक सीखा था। मुझे मास्टर बनना था जिसके लिए शिक्षा ही एकमात्र रास्ता था। ”
- लेयलैंड ने रोंग्राम कम्युनिटी एंड रूरल डेवलपमेंट (C & RD) ब्लॉक के तहत क्षेत्र में बड़े पैमाने पर होने वाली झूम खेती (shifting cultivation) से पर्यावरण क्षति को रोककर समुदाय को बेहतर आजीविका कमाने में मदद किया है। Chizingjang नामक एक स्वयं सहायता समूह (SHG) की सहायता से उन्होंने 2008 में एलोवेरा प्रोडक्ट के प्रोसेसिंग और बिक्री का एक अनोखा व्यवसाय शुरू किया। इससे न केवल कुछ ग्रामीणों को एक बढ़िया रोजगार मिला, बल्कि गाँव के भी दशा-दिशा में काफी सुधार और विकास हुआ।

- In 2010, Babu decided to return to his hometown in Kerala’s Kottayam district, ending his 15-year stay abroad, where he worked at different companies as an Industrial worker in Bahrain, Portugal and Denmark.
- “The concept of cultivating lemons came to mind after I realised how popular its demand is in the marketplace. Not only for kitchen uses, lemon also has many more benefits as it contains potassium, folate, molybdenum, which boosts the immune system,”
- He says that in his vegetable plantation, he gets some fruits only during specific seasons, but when it comes to lemons, it is more readily available. Usually, the lemon plant bears fruit during three seasons, but surprisingly, in Babu’s plantation, lemons are abundant in supply all year through.

- The Prakruthi Kshethram farm has 20-odd varieties of jackfruit trees, 30 banana varieties, ten varieties of mango and is home to native cows and goats.
- We wanted to make it special and peaceful so my husband and I decided to do cultivation in our plot,” says P Thankamani, who retired in 2005 as the principal of the Government Moyan Model Girls Higher Secondary School, Palakkad. Her husband A Narayanan retired as a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation bus conductor in 2002.
- While still working, Thankamani and her husband purchased a 7.5-acre plot of land. In 2013, the duo started cultivation in the plot.

- With plants ranging from Rs 30 to Rs 1,000 in her garden, Sumi receives the most orders for Episia, of which she has 80 varieties. Other than Episia, people order Begonia, Philodendron and Peperomia.
- “During the initial days of lockdown, I had no plans to start a new business selling ornamental plants. But as the shop where my husband worked was closed due to lockdown, the idea of selling plants online came to mind,” she says.
- Sumi has rare varieties of plants imported from Thailand, collected from her friends, that she grows in her terrace garden. It was from one of these ornamental plants, called the Episcia, that completely turned this homemaker’s life around.
