- नन्हें वियान कहते हैं कि उन्हें बचपन से ही पेड़-पौधों से बहुत लगाव है और उन्हें यह लगाव अपनी माँ, अविषा से विरासत में मिला है। वह शायद 3-4 साल के होंगे, जब से अविषा उन्हें पेड़-पौधों के बारे में बता रही हैं। उनके घर में पहले से ही गार्डन था लेकिन उन्होंने कभी भी सब्जियां उगाने के बारे में नहीं सोचा था।लेकिन वियान के मन में यह बात ऐसी बैठी कि उसने सब्जियां खाना छोड़ दिया।
- वह हमेशा अविषा से पूछता कि अगर इसमें केमिकल हैं तो वो क्यों खा रहे हैं? इसका क्या विकल्प हो सकता है? उसके सवालों के जवाब में अविषा ने कह दिया कि ‘खुद अपनी सब्जियां उगा लो!’ और बस अपनी माँ की इस एक बात से ही वियान की गार्डनिंग की शुरुआत हुई। अविषा ने भी वियान को कभी कुछ करने से नहीं रोका बल्कि जब वियान ने पेड़-पौधे लगाने की बात कही तो उन्होंने उसके इस शौक को पूरा समय दिया।
- बैक टू रूट्स के ज़रिए वियान 100 से भी ज्यादा लोगों से जुड़े हुए हैं। हर महीने लगभग 30 से 40 लोग उनसे पौध खरीदते हैं और लॉकडाउन के दौरान तो उनकी बिक्री काफी बढ़ी है। बहुत से लोग अपने बच्चों के जन्मदिन पर गिफ्ट्स के तौर पर कभी मिर्च के तो कभी टमाटर के पौधे लेते हैं। इस सबसे हर महीने वियान की लगभग 10 हज़ार रुपये तक की कमाई हो जाती है।

- 2012 में कंप्यूटर साइंस में एमटेक करने वाली वल्लरी इस वक्त ट्रैक्टर से अपने खेत जोतने से लेकर फसलों की पैदावार, उनकी मार्केटिंग, पैकेजिंग तक का काम अपनी देख-रेख में करती हैं।सपने को हकीकत में बदलने वालों के लिए छत्तीसगढ़ की वल्लरी चंद्राकर मिसाल हैं। किसानी की दुनिया में कदम रखने से पहले वल्लरी एक कॉलेज में कंप्यूटर साइंस पढ़ाया करती थीं। लेकिन एक बार किसी काम की वजह से वह अपने पिता के फार्म हाउस पर गईं और फिर उसके बाद उनके जीवन में बड़ा बदलाव आया। असिस्टेंट प्रोफेसर की नौकरी छोड़कर 30 साल की वल्लरी किसानी करने लगीं।
- शुरूआत में 15 एकड़ जमीन में खेती शुरू करने वाली वल्लरी महज चार साल में 45 एकड़ में खेती कर रहीं हैं। रायपुर से करीब 88 किलोमीटर दूर बागबाहरा के सिरी गाँव की रहने वाली वल्लरी ने 2016 में खेती से नाता जोड़ा था। उन्होंने परंपरागत तरीके से हटकर तकनीक को खेती का आधार बनाया। मार्केटिंग और इंजीनियरिंग के 7 सहायकों को रोजगार देने के साथ ही, वह कई लोगों को खेती के ज़रिए रोजगार दे रहीं हैं।
- 2012 में कंप्यूटर साइंस में M.tech करने वाली वल्लरी इस वक्त ट्रैक्टर से अपने खेत जोतने से लेकर फसलों की पैदावार, उनकी मार्केटिंग, पैकेजिंग तक का काम अपनी देख रेख में करती हैं। उन्होंने इंटरनेट के माध्यम से खेती की नई तकनीक भी सीखी।

- बात कर रहे हैं, जयपुर के डिस्ट्रिक्ट ट्रांसपोर्ट ऑफिसर आदर्श सिंह राघव की। परिवहन विभाग में अपनी ड्यूटी निभाने के साथ-साथ आदर्श पूरी ज़िम्मेदारी से अपने घर-परिवार के साथ साग-सब्जी भी उगा रहे हैं। और सिर्फ अपने बच्चों को ही नहीं बल्कि पड़ोसियों को भी जैविक सब्जी खिला रहे हैं।
- आदर्श कहते हैं कि उन्होंने जो भी सीखा यूट्यूब आदि को देखकर सीखा है। वह खुद भी अब यूट्यूब पर अपने गार्डन की एक्टिविटी शेयर करते हैं। वह जो कुछ भी अपने गार्डन में करते हैं उसे लोगों से साझा करते हैं। वह बाजार से केवल आलू और प्याज खरीदते हैं, बाकी सब कुछ जैसे घीया/लौकी, कद्दू, भिंडी, बैंगन, शिमला मिर्च, धनिया, पुदीना, मूली, गाजर, शलजम, गोभी आदि वह खुद अपने गार्डन में उगाते हैं।
- उनके गार्डन में 100 से भी ज्यादा गमले, ग्रो बैग्स आदि हैं जिन्हें पानी देना कोई कम मेहनत का काम नहीं है। इसलिए आदर्श ने खुद ही पुराने पाइप और प्लास्टिक की बोतलें लेकर एक ड्रिप इरीगेशन सिस्टम बनाया। अब वह सिर्फ एक नल खोलते हैं और पाइप के मुख्य सिरे को इससे लगाते हैं। चंद मिनटों में उनके सभी पौधों को पानी मिल जाता

- There is a high chance that the black rice in your kitchen may have its origins in Bihar. That’s because thousands of farmers in Bihar are now giving up traditional cropping patterns, and looking for better options.“I was sceptical experimenting with a new variety of rice. But interactions with scientists and knowing the nutritional value of the black rice, I decided to try growing it in half an acre of land,” says Biru Singh, a farmer in Bihar.
- “Since the year 2005, there is no government market, the irrigation techniques used are poor, and the government agriculture institutions have failed to connect with the farmers and support in technical know-how,” Luvkush said.The member, also a science graduate working to popularise science among school children and locals, said, “According to the reports of the central government, there are about one crore farmers in Bihar, and about five crore people depend on agriculture. The average basic income of these farmers is about Rs 3,500.”

- Sameer Chadha walks across his farmland, beaming at the greenery that surrounds him. He takes a deep breath and the fresh air has hints of lemongrass fragrance. This is the result of an amazing five-year journey, and he has some important lessons for those of us considering making the switch.
- “With the increasing use of pesticides in commercial farming, the quality of produce and the soil is on a decline. I knew that I wanted to grow crops that were easy to maintain, were naturally pest-resistant, and that had a good market. After much research, I found that growing lemongrass and khus (vetiver) would be a good choice as they fulfilled all these conditions,” explains the 29-year-old Lucknow based farmer.

- Vijay, whose family had been cultivating multiple varieties of crops for generations, predicted the long term repercussions of monoculture or growing a single crop on soil fertility and subsequently the rise in farmer distress. While growing up he had seen the health and environmental benefits of growing more than one traditional crop in the same land. So, when the government was giving soybeans and chemical fertilisers at dirt cheap rates, it did not go down well with Vijay and he started BBA to conserve traditional varieties.
- “It is an inter-cropping method of twelve or more crops that is usually practised in rain-fed Tehri-Garhwal regions. It gives a farmer a wholesome land on which lentils, cereals, vegetables, legumes and creepers grow in harmony with each other. For example, stems of grains act as a natural support for creepers of legumes. Once the key to the success of our ancestors, this method was dying in the 80s. It provides food security to the farmer and also raises soil fertility,” Vijay, who is now in his late sixties, tells
- “Some of the crops in the cycle are resistant to drought, pests, and floods so during a natural calamity, even if some crops are damaged, he will still get enough food to sell in the market or for self-consumption. Additionally, the baranaj process is similar to that of forest and hence it does not require any chemical inputs or excessive irrigation. They are all rainfed. Maintaining diversity in plants also boosts soil fertility and it provides varying fodder options for farm animals,” explains Vijay.

- जाई कहती हैं, “हमने अपनी ऊर्जा (संसाधन) की जरूरतों को कम करने के लिए, एसी का इस्तेमाल नहीं करने का फैसला किया। इसके बजाय, हमने घर को ठंडा रखने के लिए इसके डिजाइन में कुछ बदलाव करने को लेकर जानकारी हासिल की और यह सब हम अधिक अपशिष्ट पैदा बिना हासिल करना चाहते थे। तो, सबसे पहली शर्त थी कि हम मौजूदा घर में बेकार चीजों को नहीं रखेंगे।”
- दक्षिणी दिशा में, अपने पड़ोसी के घर से सटे होने के कारण कोई जगह नहीं थी। तो, उन्होंने छत पर एक बड़ा सा छेद करवाया और आसामन की ओर से उसे खुला छोड़ा ताकि हवा आती-जाती रहे। इसमें उन्होंने बंद करने का भी ऑप्शन दिया। इसमें एक सीलिंग फैन और एक विंड-कैचर को भी लगाया गया है, इस प्रक्रिया में एक 4×4 का पाइप लगाया गया है, जिसके जरिए ठंडी हवा कमरे तक पहुँचती है।
- इसके अलावा, छत के ऊपरी-स्तर पर संग्रहित बारिश के पानी को जमीन पर बने 16,000 लीटर के टैंक में भेजने की भी व्यवस्था की गई है।

- अभिषेक जैन राजस्थान के भीलवाड़ा जिला के संग्रामगढ़ में अपनी पुश्तैनी जमीन पर 2007 से खेती कर रहे हैं। उनके पास कुल 30 बीघा ज़मीन है, जिसके कुछ हिस्से में वह ऑर्गेनिक नींबू और अमरूद उगा रहे हैं।
- अभिषेक कहते हैं कि जैविक खेती अपनाने की वजह से वह साल में 2 से 3 लाख रूपये बचा लेते हैं। इससे पहले यही पैसे हानिकारक रसायनों पर खर्च हो जाते था।जैविक खेती की वजह से मिट्टी की गुणवत्ता में काफी सुधार हुआ। अब वह पूरे मन से नींबू की खेती करते हैं और इसे लगातार बढ़ाने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं। नींबू से वह न सिर्फ नींबू पानी बल्कि अचार भी बनाते हैं।
- 2016 में, उन्होंने व्यवसाय के मकसद से अचार बनाना शुरू किया और अब हर साल 500-700 किलोग्राम के बीच अचार बेचते हैं। पैकिंग और शिपिंग के अतिरिक्त मामूली खर्च के साथ 900 ग्राम की बोतल की कीमत 200 रुपये है।

- गुरुदत्त को फल और सब्जियों वाले पौधे उगाना बेहद पसंद हैं। इसकी शुरूआत उन्होंने 30 साल पहले तब की थी जब वह पब्लिक वर्क डिपार्टमेंट में जूनियर इंजीनियर के पद पर नियुक्त हुए थे।वह बताते हैं, “मेरे ऑफिस की इमारत के चारों ओर जगह थी और अधिकारी उस क्षेत्र की सुंदरता को बढ़ाने के लिए कई प्रकार के फूलों के पौधे लगाने के बारे में सोच रहे थे। लेकिन मैंने उन्हें अमरूद और आम जैसे फलदार पेड़ लगाने की सलाह दी ताकि भविष्य में हमें इसका फायदा मिले। अधिकारी मान गए। मैंने स्थानीय नर्सरी से पौधे खरीदे और उन्हें सावधानीपूर्वक इमारत के चारों ओर लगाया। दो साल के भीतर पेड़ों में फल आने शुरू हो गए।”
- गुरुदत्त बताते हैं, “मैंने प्याज को दूध की पेटी जबकि बैंगन, लौकी, टमाटर, शिमला मिर्च, पालक, शकरकंद सहित अन्य सब्जियों को 20-लीटर वाले पेंट के कैन और टूटी हुई बाल्टियों में उगाया।
- शुरूआत में, इनमें से अधिकांश पौधे मेरी बालकनी में बढ़ रहे थे, लेकिन जगह बहुत छोटी थी, इसलिए मैंने अपने अपार्टमेंट एसोसिएशन से अनुमति लेकर अपने पौधों को कॉमन टैरेस पर रख दिया। विभिन्न कंटेनरों में पौधे उगाने को मैंने अपने आप के लिए एक चुनौती माना। भविष्य में, मैं अपने पौधों को उगाने के लिए टूटे हुए वॉशबेसिन और पाइप आदि खरीदने की योजना बना रहा हूँ।”
