20531. India's deal with US to buy 30 armed Predator drones at 'advanced stage': Report
- The discussions on the sale of 30 Predator armed drones by the US to India, the first to a non-NATO ally, at an estimated cost of USD 3 billion are at an advanced stage, multiple sources have confirmed.
- The major defence deal was announced under the previous Trump administration during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the White House in 2017. Thereafter, the two countries have intensified the discussions and increased the number of such drones to be sold to India from 10 to 30 - 10 each for navy, air force and army.
- the Predator/MQ9B acquisition program of 30 aircraft is at an advanced stage of discussion between the Indian and US governments.

20532. Hunar Haat provided employment opportunities to 8 lakh artisans.
- Hunar Haat has provided employment opportunities to about 8 lakh artisans and craftsmen in different parts of the country during the last seven years.
- More than 700 artisans and craftsmen from more than 30 states and union territories are participating in the Hunar Haat being organized at NTR Stadium, Indira Park. The fair will continue till March 6.
- Hunar Haat has become a valuable partner in preservation and promotion of the heritage of artisans and craftsmen.
20533. IIT Mandi researchers use orange peels to convert biomass derived chemicals into biofuel precursors
- IIT Mandi researchers have employed hydrochar produced from orange peels as a catalyst to transform biomass-derived chemicals into biofuel precursors.
- The study will aid in the development of biomass-based fuels to address the socio-political instability caused by depleting petroleum supplies. The findings of the research which was led by Venkata Krishnan have been published recently in a journal 'Green Chemistry'.
- After coal, oil, and natural gas, biomass-derived products from naturally occurring materials are currently India's fourth most significant energy source for meeting its energy requirements. Researchers from IIT Mandi used orange peels to catalyse the conversion of biomass-derived chemicals into biofuel precursors by heating dried orange peel powder with citric acid under pressure in a hydrothermal reactor for several hours.
20534. India offers 'Made in India' vaccines to all foreign diplomats and their families
- Envoys, UN workers and people working in intergovernmental agencies and their families may not have to worry about Covid-19 vaccines.
- The Indian government has offered India-made vaccine in a special Covid vaccine drive for diplomats in all locations in the country.
- Informing reporters about this special drive in a weekly briefing, MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said, "All eligible members of diplomatic corps and their families have been offered Indian made vaccine. Not only envoys but UN and intergovernmental agencies working here have also been offered the vaccine."
20535. Over 1.30 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in India so far: Health ministry
- The cumulative number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered to healthcare and frontline workers in the country has crossed 1.30 crore, the Union health ministry said on Thursday.
- On February 24, the Centre held meeting with all states and Union territories to review the progress of Covid-19 vaccination drive with a focus on improving pace of vaccination.
- "States and UTs have been advised to expand Covid-19 vaccination sessions to all public health care facilities along with CGHS and PM-JAY-empaneled hospitals from March," the ministry said.A total of 1,30,67,047 vaccine doses have been given through 2,77,303 sessions, as per the provisional report till Thursday 6 pm.
20536. 16 coaches of Deccan Queen reach Mumbai, dining car set to arrive in March
- The revamped Mumbai-Pune Deccan Queen Express coloured in ‘Restrained Imperium’ shade has finally arrived. Of the 17 coaches, 16 arrived evening. However, the star attraction, the dining car, is yet to arrive and is expected to reach Mumbai by early March.
- The 17-car Deccan Queen is the only train in the country which has a dining car, with a seating capacity of 40 diners, for regular passenger use. mid-day has been following up on developments related to the train since February 2019. The train is now being upgraded with German-design Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches.
- The coaches have arrived from manufacturers Integral Coach Factory (ICF) and will not be brought into immediate use. The dining car, which has been elegantly designed, is in the making and should arrive in the city soon.
20537. India asks Bharat Biotech to submit efficacy data of Covaxin's ongoing Phase 3 trials
- Bharat Biotech is also asked to submit revised clinical trial protocol for review of the committee.
- The expert committee says Bharat Biotech presented proposal to conduct phase III clinical trial of Covaxin in people aged between 5 & 18
- Covaxin is one of the two Covid-19 vaccines approved for emergency use in India, though efficacy data from its late-stage trial is yet to be published.

- Headquartered in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Prataap Snacks Ltd. is the maker of one of India’s most well-known indigenous brands of chips, Yellow Diamond. In its nearly 18-year-old journey, the company became a regional giant in its segment, going on from 3 employees back in 2004 to over 3,000 direct and indirect in 2021.
- An MBA from the United States’ University of Southwestern Louisiana, Kumat had three failed attempts at business in six years before founding a snacks firm with friend Arvind Mehta and brother Apoora Kumat.
- By 2012’s close, the company boasted a revenue of Rs 172 crore. Prataap Snacks Ltd then bagged an investment from Sequoia Capital and Kumat set about on the next chapter of twist and turns in the expansion. In 2016, Kumat roped in Bollywood’s megastar Salman Khan to be the face of the brand. The company went for IPO in 2017. Today, it is the largest snack company in the band of Rs 1000 crore turnover, having become a household name to lakhs across the country.
20539. Aatmanirbhar in Defence: An independent nodal umbrella body for training, trials, testing and certification
- A webinar on ‘Aatmanirbharta In Defence – Call To Action’ was held on 25 Feb 22 in which those who matter and deal with Defence in the Government and Industry gave their views, and exchanged them with others.
- Aatmanirbharta in Defence demands an Independent Nodal Umbrella Body for Training, Trials, Testing and Certification.
- The defence corridor nodes must be linked to IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur as knowledge partners. Organisationally the IIT Madras Research Park model is a good start point for the envisaged independent body. The entire system can be developed on a shared funding model cum self-generating basis. This will evolve with time.
20540. First Northeast India job fair to be held in Dimapur
- The first North East India job fair is scheduled to be held on March 1 and 2 at Emporium Skills Training Institute, Vikiye Colony and IMC hall, Dimapur, According to a report from DPRO Dimapur, the job fair would be conducted by recruitment team of Carnival Support Services India (CSSI) Private Ltd and graced by deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan as special guest.
- CSSI in an interview with DPRO Dimapur informed that it had partnered with Emporium Skill Training Institute (ESTI), an established organisation guided under the framework of ministry of Skill Development & Nagaland Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Society to organise the cruise career fair in Dimapur.
- Through this collaboration, it informed that it aims to bring “the world’s best cruise ship career opportunities for the youth of North East Indian states.” It also informed that the recruitment would be free and recruits would be chosen strictly on merit.
