20541. 2 Chinars successfully transplanted at Char Chinar
- The J&K Forest Department has successfully completed the transplanting operation of two tall Chinars at the famous Char Chinar in Dal Lake here to restore its erstwhile glory.
- In a statement, the J&K Forest Department claimed that it is first-of-its-kind achievement in the country, “Acting upon the directions of Lt. Governor and instructions of Chief Secretary, J&K, Forest Department formulated a strategy in October, 2021 in consultation with technical experts of Floriculture Department, LCMA and Scientists of SKUAST and JKFRI for restoration of ‘Ropa Lank’ in Dal Lake popularly known as Char Chinar, by transplanting tall Chinars - the State tree of Jammu & Kashmir,”
- It was given out that only one healthy mature tree exists on spot requiring no treatment. The decaying second tree was given silvicultural /chemical treatment for development of existing root suckers into a substitute tree.
- Two new tall transplants were required to be planted at the 3rd and 4th tree sites for which two large pits with 6 feet diameter and 5 feet depth were dug out in advance before onset of winter. Infected soil was removed and good quality soil brought from outside the Dal Lake for the purpose.
20542. J&K Govt establishes 10 district consumer redressal commissions
- In a positive development, the Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered the constitution of 10 district Consumer Redressal Commissions in the Union Territory.
- By virtue of the notification issued by the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department 10 district redressal commissions have been established and their jurisdiction also defined.
- This law became applicable to Jammu and Kashmir following reorganisation of the erstwhile state of J&K into two UTs with effect from October 30, 2019, and with the repealing of the Jammu and Kashmir Consumer Protection Act, 1987.
- Section 28 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 states: “Every State and Union Territory shall, by notification, establish a District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, to be known as the District Commission, in each district and each District Commission shall consist of a President and not less than two members”.
20543. 12,000 PDD employees to be regularized
- The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has accorded approval to the Recruitment Rules by the Corporations of Power Development Department for regularization of work charged PDL/TDL.
- With the approval of these rules, the main demand of the Power Development Department employees stands fulfilled and will effect positively regularization/ future progression of around 12000 employees.
- The services of work charged PDL/TDL used to be regularized against the posts of Class-IV in Power Development Department as per the provisions provided in the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (Subordinate) Service Recruitment Rules, 1981.
- The Power Development Department has taken various welfare majors to mitigate the problems of work force in the department which include insurance coverage, delegation of more powers and in line with the objective of mitigating the genuine grievances of the employees
20544. Assam: Meet for opportunities on solar power plants in tea estates and factories held
- An interactive meet on “opportunities of solar power plants in tea estates and tea factories” was organised under the aegis of tea producer associations – ABITA, ATPA, BCP and NETA at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC).
- The Managing Director of APDCL, Rakesh Kumar, addressed the gathering and urged the tea industry representatives to give suggestions on the ‘Draft Assam Renewable Energy Policy, 2022’. He appreciated the interactive meet and said interactions with the tea industry will continue. The New and Renewable Energy (NRE) wing of APDCL, during their presentation elaborated on several modes of execution of solar projects in the tea industry – rooftop solar power plant on CAPEX or RESCO mode, setting up of solar power plant by leasing out uncultivated barren tea land, captive solar power plant and setting up solar parks by way of leasing out land to APDCL.
- Several solar companies have given their presentations – Tata Power, KSL (official channel partner of Adani Power), Roofsol, Firstgreen and AVCO. Also, financial institutions SIDBI and PNB informed about their financing schemes for solar.
- Solar projects can be a game-changer for the tea industry. We can use barren uncultivated land for solar power projects which could generate revenue for tea companies. We also have a factory roof for the installation of solar panels.

20545. NF Railway Plans To Revive Mahisashan Transit Point By December
- The Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway is planning to revive the defunct railway transit point of Mahisashan in the Karimganj district of Assam by December 2022. The Mahisasan Railway Station, which is located along with the adjoining Kushiyara River and the Mahisashan-Shahbajpur route, has been non-operational since 1966.

- The General Manager of the NF Railway further said that they have visited the railway stations and inspected the safety measures of the trains. “We have visited the railway stations and inspected. Connectivity with Bangladesh will start and we are planning to start connectivity to Mahisasan zero point by December this year,” Gupta added.

20546. CoE for Fencing likely to be inaugurated in March at MA Stadium
- The much awaited Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Fencing under Khelo India Scheme at Maulana Azad (MA) Stadium, announced by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is likely to be inaugurated in the 2nd week of March by de facto president of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
- The Rs 5.08 crore CoE for fencing was announced here simultaneously by the then Union Sports Minister, Kiren Rijiju along with Centre of Excellence for Rowing at the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council Water Sports Academy Srinagar. The latter was thrown open by Lieutenant Governor in the month of April 2021 and had organized a national level event there, but the other Centre of Excellence for Jammu in the discipline of Fencing is going to be thrown open soon.
- The new CoE shall have been a fencing court for imparting training to the budding fencers as well as a physio section, a weightlifting room and a massage centre will have also been available for the overall development of the sportsperson,” sources revealed.
- “Nearly a year back, the J&K Sports Council in consultation with Sports Authority of India (SAI) had advertised a notice for appointment of high profile manager, coaches, assistant coach, a physio and other allied staff but unfortunately due to various reasons, the Authority concerned failed to conduct the interview prior for the said posts.
20547. J&K's Udhampur gets first women police station to provide better environment to women
- Udhampur district of Jammu & Kashmir got its first women police station. Director-General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh on Friday, February 25 inaugurated Udhampur women police station.
- After the inauguration of the Women Police Station, DGP said, "The motive behind opening the women police station is to provide a better environment to women."
- The Women Police Station has been opened to take crime against women seriously and to bring down any type of crime against women. He mentioned that at the Udhampur women police station, the victims of crime will be dealt with by women officers/officials.
20548. देश में जल्द ही दुनिया का पहला डीएनए-प्लास्मिड वैक्सीन उपलब्ध होगा
- टीकाकरण पर राष्ट्रीय तकनीकी सलाहकार समूह-एनटीएजीआई से संबद्ध कोविड-19 कार्यबल के अध्यक्ष डॉक्टर नरेंद्र कुमार अरोड़ा ने कहा है कि देश में जल्द ही दुनिया का पहला डीएनए-प्लास्मिड वैक्सीन उपलब्ध होगा, जिसे जाइडस कैडिला ने विकसित कियाा है।
- उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार को जल्द ही एक और प्रोटीन युक्त वैक्सीन-बायोलॉजिकल ई उपलब्ध होने की उम्मीद है।
- उन्होंने बताया कि इन वैक्सीन के परीक्षण काफी उत्साहजनक रहे हैं और इनके इस साल सितंबर तक उपलब्ध हो जाने की संभावना है।
20549. Serum Institute begins production of Novavax covid vaccine in Pune
- Adar Poonawalla, SII, CEO had said that clinical trials of the vaccine 'Covovax' have begun in India and the company hopes to launch it by September this year
- Novavax remains on track to reach manufacturing capacity of 100 million doses per month by the end of the third quarter and 150 million doses per month by the end of the fourth quarter of 2021.
- Novavax's vaccine exhibited a 90.4% overall efficacy in Phase-3 clinical trials.
20550. Cipla Allowed to Import Moderna Vaccine for Use in India: Sources
- Cipla had referred to the government's decision to waive bridging trials for foreign vaccines if it is cleared for emergency use in countries like the US and if the safety assessment data of the first 100 beneficiaries is submitted before mass rollout.
- Moderna is said to be 90 per cent effective against Covid.
- Moderna is an mRNA vaccine that has fragments of the genetic material known as messenger RNA.
