20421. Bharat Biotech's Krishna Ella wants maximum price for its vaccine
- Covaxin maker Bharat Biotech is yet to come out with a formal pricing for its Covid-19 vaccine, but company chief Krishna Ella said it would ideally like to have the “maximum possible price”.
- Covaxin is being sold for $15-20 in the international markets. The company is in process of ramping up its vaccine production capacity to 700 million doses annually and is also pursuing approval for it in 60 countries. In Mexico, the Philippines, and Iran, it is already fetching $15-20 per shot.
- Ella, CMD of the Hyderabad-based company, told a television channel: “As a company we would like to have the maximum possible price.
- We would like to recover the costs incurred in clinical trials, and other things. We want to reinvest the money into research and development (R&D) and be ready for future pandemics.”
- Bharat Biotech is working on other vaccines for Zika, Chikungnya, H1N1 etc. “We need cash for future R&D.” “I never give dividends in my company. I continue to live simply,” Ella said.
20422. ड्रोन से होगी कोरोना वैक्सीन की डिलीवरी, जानें क्या है सरकार की नई योजना
- केंद्र सरकार ने कोरोना के टीकों की आपूर्ति ड्रोन से करने के लिए एक अध्ययन की अनुमति दे दी है।नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्रालय ने गुरूवार को भारतीय चिकित्सा अनुसंधान परिषद (आईसीएमआर) को ड्रोन के जरिए वैक्सीन की आपूर्ति की संभावना तलाशने के लिए अध्ययन की इजाजत दी है।
- आईसीएमआर यह अध्ययन भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान (आईआईटी) कानपुर के सहयोग से करेगा।
- आईसीएमआर को अध्ययन की यह छूट मानव रहित विमान प्रणाली नियम, 2021 के तहत शर्त के साथ दी गई है। ताकी वह वैक्सीन की डिलीवरी में ड्रोन के इस्तेमाल की संभावना तलाश सके। यह छूट एक साल के लिए मान्य होगी या फिर अगले आदेश तक ही मान्य होगी।
20423. J&J COVID-19 vaccine expected to be imported to India by July –
- Johnson & Johnson's (JNJ.N) single-shot COVID-19 vaccine is expected to be imported to India for "fill and finish" by June or July
- Fill and finish is the final step in the manufacturing process of putting the vaccine into vials or syringes, sealing them and packaging them up for shipping.
- India has said it would fast-track emergency approvals for COVID-19 vaccines authorised by Western countries and Japan, paving the way for possible imports of Pfizer (PFE.N), Johnson & Johnson and Moderna (MRNA.O) shots.
- This will exempt companies from carrying out local safety trials for their vaccines.
20424. 60% of Indian variant samples tested in labs found in Maharshtra
- 59% samples of the newly identified and infectious Indian variant of SARS-CoV-2 called B.1.617 have been found in Maharashtra, although the double mutant strain is dominant only in selected districts and cities, not the entire state.
- Significantly, scientists have also found that both Covaxin and Covishield are able to protect against the strain.
- director of the National Centre for Disease Control, said a total of 15,133 samples have been sequenced by the 10 INSACOG laboratories, of which 1,196 had the UK variant, 728 had the B.1.617 or Indian mutation, and 29 had the South African variant. Of the 728 samples with the Indian variant, 427 were found in Maharashtra, 124 in West Bengal, 75 in Delhi and 53 in MP, among others.
- However, nearly 1,200 samples had the UK mutation, of which 543 were in Punjab, followed by 124 in Delhi. Maharashtra had the UK mutation in 29 samples.
20425. India’s cumulative vaccination coverage exceeds 13.83 crores, more than 29 lakh vaccine doses administered in last 24 hours
- The cumulative number of COVID19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 13.83 Cr today as part of the world’s largest vaccination drive.
- Cumulatively, 13,83,79,832 vaccine doses have been administered through 19,80,105 sessions, as per the provisional report till 7 am today.
- These include 92,68,027 HCWs who have taken the 1st dose and 59,51,076 HCWs who have taken the 2nd dose, 1,18,51,655 FLWs (1stdose), 61,94,851 FLWs (2nddose), 4,91,45,265 1st dose beneficiaries and 71,65,338 2nd dose beneficiaries more than 60 years old and 4,66,71,540 (1st dose) and 21,32,080 (2nd dose) beneficiaries aged 45 to 60 years.
- Eight states account for 58.92% of the cumulative doses given so far in the country..

20427. India to waive basic customs duty on import of oxygen, related equipment and Covid vaccine for 3 months
- Reeling under an acute medical oxygen supply crisis, India has decided to waive basic customs duty on import of oxygen and related equipment as also on Covid vaccines for three months.
- Health cess on oxygen and oxygen equipment also stands exempted for three months.
- The decision was taken at a high-level emergency meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired on Saturday as reports of critical patients dying for want of oxygen began to pour in from Delhi, Rajasthan and Punjab

- According to the ministry, India's merchandise exports in April-January period rose by 46.53% to $335.44 billion as against $228.9 billion in the year-ago period.

20430. India's exports to China rise by 21% to $22.9 billion in 2021
- The bilateral trade between India and China rose to $110.4 billion in 2021 against $77.7 billion in 2020, registering a year-on-year growth of 42.2%
- India's exports to China rose by 21% to $22.9 billion in the 2021 calendar year while imports surged by 49% to $87.5 billion during the same year, according to data released by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics.
- India's imports from China declined from $68.4 billion in 2019 to $58.7 billion in 2020. But it rose sharply to $87.5 billion in 2021.
