20401. 148 aircraft to display IAF power at Vayu Shakti on March 7
- 148 aircraft of the Indian Air Force will take part in the 2022 edition of ‘Vayu Shakti’ that will held at Rajasthan’s Pokhran test facility on March 7
- ‘Vayu Shakti’, which is IAF’s biggest exercise, is held every three years to showcase India’s air power. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the chief guest for the event this time
- The exercise is being held in the backdrop of IAF’s high-tempo operations in the Ladakh sector where India and China have been locked in a border row since May 2020. A total of 109 fighter jets, 24 helicopters and seven transport planes are among the aircraft that will participate in the drill.
- The last edition of the exercise was held on February 16, 2019, ten days before IAF bombed Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) targets in Pakistan’s Balakot. Since then, IAF has strengthened its combat potential significantly with the induction of Rafale jets armed with potent beyond visual range (BVR) missiles, S-400 Triumf air defence missile systems, a medium range surface-to-air-missile (MRSAM) system and smart air-to-ground weapons

20402. From Gaganyaan to Aditya-L1: Check out ISRO's space missions scheduled for 2022
- The Gaganyaan mission's goal is to test the capacity of sending mankind into low earth orbit using space vehicle and safely returning them to Earth. In 2022, India's big mission, which intends to launch the first batch of Indian astronauts into space on an indigenously built spacecraft, would get a boost. At the start of the second half of 2022, ISRO will undertake a test vehicle flight to validate the 'Crew Escape System' performance, as well as Gaganyaan's maiden uncrewed mission.
- Aditya L1, India's first mission to explore the Sun, will begin in Mid 2022 after being postponed a year owing to pandemic restrictions. The Aditya-L1 mission will be placed in a halo orbit around the Lagrange point 1 (L1), which is around 15,00,000 kilometres from Earth. Aditya, which means'sun' in Sanskrit, will be ISRO's second prominent space mission, following the launch of its Mars orbiter in 2013.
- In the third quarter of 2022, ISRO will execute the major Chandrayaan-3 mission. The Chandrayaan-3 builds on the findings of the first Chandrayaan mission, which was launched in October 2008 and found indications of water on the lunar surface. The third lunar mission arrives two years after Chandrayaan-2 crashed into the Moon's far side.
- ISRO is developing the SSLV as India becomes a hotspot for launching satellites into low-Earth orbit. First mission will take place in the first quarter of 2022, SSLV will be able to deliver 500 kilogrammes of cargo to a 500-kilometer planar orbit. The PSLV, on the other hand, can carry a payload of up to 1,750 kilogrammes into a 600 km high SSO. The Centre has funded Rs 169 crores for the creation of SSLV, a three-stage all-solid spacecraft that can hold several satellites, including nano and micro satellites.

- MG Motor India retailed 4,528 units in February 2022, accounting for a growth of five per cent over the corresponding month last year.
- Morris Garages currently sells the Astor, Gloster, Hector, and Hector Plus in the Indian market.
- The company has its manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat, which has an annual production capacity of 8 lakh units.

20404. India adds record 10 gigawatt solar capacity in 2021: Report
- India installed a record 10 gigawatt (GW) of solar capacity during calendar year 2021, registering a year-on-year rise of 212 per cent, according to Mercom India Research. The country had made 3.2 GW of solar capacity installations during 2020, the research firm said in its latest report.
- Cumulative solar installed capacity in India was approximately 49 GW at the end of December 2021, the report titled ‘Annual 2021 India Solar Market Update’ said. “India added a record 10 GW of solar in 2021, the highest ever in a year. Solar accounted for 62 per cent of new power capacity additions in 2021, the largest share of power capacity ever
- Rajasthan, Karnataka , Andhra Pradesh were the top three states for cumulative large-scale solar capacity accounting for 50 per cent of the installations in the country as of December 2021.
20405. Reliance teams up with US-based Sanmina to create a high-tech electronics manufacturing hub in India
- Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance announced a partnership with Sanmina, a US-based electronics manufacturer.
- Reliance and Sanmina will set up a joint venture with $200 million in cash, catering to various industries like infrastructure, communications, healthcare, defense and aerospace.
- Sanmina is a US-based electronics manufacturing service provider with an experience of over 40 years.

20407. Bharat Biotech's Covid Vaccine Receives Govt Grant To Scale Production To 10cr Doses
- The Union government has provided a grant of Rs 65 crores to COVAXIN manufacturer Bharat Biotech. Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan announced the news on Twitter
- The government expects the production of the COVAXIN vaccine to reach from 1 crore to 10 crore doses by September.
- The central government besides Bharat Biotech will provide financial support to three other state-run pharmaceutical companies to manufacture vaccines.
- Maharashtra pharmaceutical company Haffkine Biopharmaceutical Corporation Ltd, Hyderabad based company Indian Immunologicals Limited and Bharat Immunologicals and Biologicals Limited, Bulandshahr too have been given grants to enhance their production capacity.
- The pharmaceutical company Haffkine will produce 20 million doses per month within six months. Indian Immunologicals Limited and Biologicals Limited, Bulandshahr will produce 10-15 million doses per month by Aug-Sep 2021.
20408. Covid Survivors May Need Just One Shot Of 2-Dose Vaccines, Say Studies
- Coronavirus vaccines were just rolling out in December when more than 1,000 staffers at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles volunteered for a sweeping study. The goal: pinpoint how immune reactions to the jab might vary.
- The issue of giving only a single dose to people who have had Covid has become all the more urgent since safety concerns have been raised about Johnson & Johnson's and AstraZeneca's vaccines.
- By last month, a clear pattern in the data "popped out at us," said research leader Susan Cheng. Those who had recovered from Covid-19 responded to their first shot so robustly that the results rivaled never-infected colleagues who had received both shots.
- The implication was clear. If you've had Covid, you may only need one of the two doses recommended by Pfizer and Moderna.
20409. Vaccine For All Above 18 Starting May 1
- Vaccinations will be opened to all above 18 from May 1, the government announced today after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a series of meetings over India's response to record daily surges in Covid cases.
- All adults can get Covid shots and states can buy doses directly from vaccine-makers in the "liberalised and accelerated Phase 3 strategy of COVID-19 vaccination", the government said, on a day the country reported 2.73 lakh new daily cases in the highest spike since the pandemic broke out a year ago.
- Vaccine manufacturers have been incentivized to scale up their production and release up to 50 per cent of their supply to states and in the open market at a declared price.
- States can now get additional vaccine doses directly from the manufacturers.
20410. ‘Go Ahead & Love’: Why a Lawyer Dedicated 20 Years to Unite 200 Inter-Caste Couples
- Since 2011, Se Gunasekar, a lawyer from Tamil Nadu, has run Adhalinal Kadhal Seiveer — an NGO that works for the safety and welfare of inter-caste couples across the state.
- Gunaseker explains that each couple is assigned a lawyer from AKS’s network on the day of their marriage. These lawyers then assist with documents such as marriage certificates, as well as collaboration with the police in case of threats
- In case a couple requires jobs, Gunasekar and his team ensure that they are hired somewhere that offers a minimum of Rs 10,000 per month, as well as food, housing, and clothes, till they are financially stable enough to manage by themselves.
