20131. Workshop on capacity building of JK forests
- Two day workshop on capacity building of JK Forest and other departments being conducted under REDD-Plus Action for Jammu and Kashmir.
- The REDD-plus mechanism of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) aims to provide financial incentive for forestry based climate change mitigation activities like reducing carbon emissions from forest degradation and increasing carbon stock through conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks.
- The Forest Department with the mandate of afforestation and conservation of forests is now actively involving grassroots level institutions like Village Panchayats and Biodiversity Management Committees.
20132. Rs 150 Crores To Be Spent Next Year On Higher Education Infrastructure In J&K: Kansal
- Over Rs. 150 crores have been planned to be spent on various infrastructural activities in higher education in the coming year. These activities include not just upgradation of physical infrastructure but other activities also such as faculty development, research centres and innovation hubs.
- A detailed discussion was held regarding the different projects undertaken under RUSA Scheme which include various projects in Jammu University, Govt College of engineering & Technology (GCET) Safapora and GCET Janglot Kathua.
- During the meeting, Kansal sanctioned Rs 10 Crore for Research Tower at Jammu University, of which Rs 5 crore would be granted under CAPEX Budget during next financial year. He also reaffirmed Government’s commitment in research infrastructure support for higher education institutions in Jammu and Kashmir.
20133. Coal India’s offer via new e auction window gets 100% booked
- Coal India (CIL) said its first ever offer of nearly 5.2 lakh tonne (LT) of coal through the single e-auction window was 100% booked. This could spur more auctions via the solitary window.
- CIL conducted e-auction in two of its subsidiaries — Northern Coalfields offering 3.2 LT and Eastern Coalfields offering 1.98 LT — and single auction window serves all segments of consumers now.
- CIL official said, adding that the new system would increase transparency with all the offered coal placed in a single basket.

20134. PNC Infratech bags Rs 864-cr road project in Uttar Pradesh
- Infrastructure development and construction company PNC Infratech said it has been declared the lowest bidder for a 54.43-km road project of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in Uttar Pradesh.
- The project pertains to improvement and upgradation of the section of NH-731 to four-lane with paved shoulders in Hardoi district on Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), it said in an exchange filing. The project is to be constructed in 30 months and operated for 15 years after construction.
- Last month, the company had said it had emerged as the lowest bidder for three new national highway projects in UP, to be built on HAM, for an aggregate bid project cost of Rs 4,384 crore.
20135. Boost for indigenous firepower: ATAGS set for final trial, Dhanush clears fresh firing test
- India’s project for indigenous artillery seems to be finally reaching its conclusion, with the towed howitzer, Dhanush, clearing firing trials and the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) set to begin its last round of testing this month.
- The Army had, in 2018, placed an initial order for 114 of the 155mm x 45mm Dhanush, manufactured by the Ordnance Factory Board’s Gun Carriage Factory Dhanush guns, which have a strike range of 38 km, fired 90 rounds each “flawlessly” as part of the second line of firing in Zone 6 at the Pokhran firing range (GCF) in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur — now known as Advanced Weapons and Equipment India (AWE) Limited.
- The ATAGS has unmatched range, with Extended Range Sub-Bore Boat Tail (ERFB BT) ammunition capable of hitting targets at 35 km and with ERFB BB (Base Bleed) ammunition with a 45 km range. The ATAGS actually fired at a range of 47 km in 2017.

- हैदराबाद की एक कंपनी और महाराष्ट्र के लातूर में एक किसान कंपनी के बीच हुए समझौते के बाद भारत में बांस से 30,000 लीटर की दैनिक क्षमता वाली दुनिया की पहली इथेनॉल उत्पादन रिफाइनरी परियोजना का निर्माण किया जाना है।
- वर्तमान में, केंद्र ने 2025 तक 20 प्रतिशत इथेनॉल को पेट्रोल के साथ मिश्रित करने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध किया है। इससे बांस आधारित इथेनॉल का उपयोग करने का एक बड़ा अवसर पैदा होता है।
- भारतीय विज्ञान संस्थान, बैंगलोर और नागार्जुन इंडस्ट्रीज द्वारा संयुक्त रूप से विकसित की गई तकनीक से देश में 65 करोड़ रुपये के निवेश के साथ मध्यम स्तर के बांस आधारित इथेनॉल संयंत्र स्थापित करना संभव हो गया है। इस संयंत्र की कच्चे माल की आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करने के लिए सालाना 1,500 एकड़ में उगाए गए 60,000 टन बांस की आवश्यकता होगी।

20138. Why Reliance-backed startup Altigreen pivoted to manufacture electric three-wheelers
- Founded in 2013, Altigreen pivoted to manufacture electric three wheelers in 2018. The startup is backed by the likes of Sixth Sense Ventures, Reliance New Energy, and more.
- In February, Altigreen raised $39.8 million from Sixth Sense Ventures, along with Reliance New Energy, Xponentia Capital, Accurant International, US, and Momentum Venture Capital, Singapore. In January 2022, Altigreen partnered with Delhi-based EV charging solutions startup Massive Mobility to install 25,000 on-demand charging stations in the next two years to be set up in towns and cities across the country.
- Domestic sales of ICE three-wheelers fell to 82,110 units in fiscal year (FY) 2021, added SIAM. In the first half of FY 2022, the sales were at 32,198 units. This indicates a solid addressable market for an e-mobility player. Altigreen showcased its first vehicle at Auto Expo 2018, and began sales in January 2021.
- The startup is also ramping up its manufacturing capabilities from the current 6,000 per annum to 36,000 per annum in the next few months. At present, it develops its vehicles only in the Bengaluru facility.
20139. This SaaS startup is solving supply chain challenges of enterprises, enabling BNPL for distributors
- Bengaluru-based SaaS platform Actyv.ai helps large enterprises transform supply chains and lets them empower the distributor ecosystem by offering cheaper credit facility through a BNPL model.
- Founded by seasoned tech professionals Raghunath Subramanian, Ramkumar Thirumurthi, and Raghu Venkat, the startup uses AI and ML for its technology platform that solves the key supply chain challenges of enterprises while ensuring Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) credit facility to distributors and suppliers.
- According to industry estimates, the global supply chain market is expected to touch $41.7 billion by 2026, surging from $23.2 billion in 2020. At present, Actyv.ai’s customers are from India. They include three large enterprises, and the startup has plans to add another 20-25 in the near future.
20140. [Startup Bharat] This Siliguri-based hotel management firm wants to become OYO of Northeast India
- When OYO Rooms, run by Oravel Stays Pvt Ltd, wowed the startup ecosystem in 2014 by raising huge funding rounds, budget hotels were touted as the next big thing. While many players entered this space – including Zo Rooms, FabHotels, and Treebo – only a handful of them were able to survive.
- By 2018, Gurugram-based Oyo started expanding into China and Indonesia, as well as had plans to enter Japan. When many had started to recognise OYO’s signature red-and-white logo, Rahul Chaudhury and Jaydeep Bose in Kolkata were in the process of starting a hotel management service of their own.
- So far, the founders have put in approximately Rs 70 lakh from their own pockets to bootstrap the startup and have a 10-member team running it out of Siliguri.
