2741. SpanTrik aims for the stars with India’s first fully reusable rocket
- Indian aerospace startup SpanTrik is developing a fully reusable rocket, Raven. A reusable rocket is one that can launch into space, deliver its payload, and return safely to Earth, ready to be refuelled and flown again.
- To hit the skies and beyond in 2028, Raven is the aerospace startup’s flagship project, designed for all kinds of missions, be it deploying mega constellations of satellites, carrying payloads to the Moon, or even supporting the human race’s steps toward Mars.
- Raven can carry 8 to 22 tonnes to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and 5 tonnes to Mars. What sets it apart is its green propulsion system, which uses LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) and LOX (Liquid Oxygen). These fuels are environmentally friendly, aligning with our commitment to sustainability.
2742. India’s First Hydrogen Train Set To Roll Out By…– What Makes It the Most Powerful In The World?- Know In Detail
- The Indian Railways is going to the biggest gift in the rail network in the form of Hydrogen Train, as per media reports. The train is expected to move on 89-Km long track of Jind-Sonipat section in March 2025.
- India has recently made the world’s most powerful hydrogen-powered train engine. Unlike other nations, which made hydrogen trains with capacities between 500 and 600 horsepower. India has made it with a 1,200 horsepower.
- U Subba Rao, General Manager (GM), ICF stated, “We are working on the flagship project for the Hydrogen Fuel Cell train set. Hydrogen fuel cell coaches are currently being produced at ICF. The train set is likely to be turned out by March 25.”
2743. Tata Steel becomes India's first to develop hydrogen transport pipes
- Tata Steel on 29 January 2025 claimed that it has become India's first steel company to develop pipes for hydrogen transportation, marking a significant milestone in the country's hydrogen mission.
- The pipes, processed at Tata Steel’s Khopoli plant using steel manufactured at its Kalinganagar plant, have successfully met all the critical properties required for hydrogen transportation, the company said in a statement.
- In 2024, Tata Steel became the first Indian steel company to produce hot-rolled steel for the transportation of gaseous hydrogen.
2744. Central Government Approves 160-Km High-Speed Corridor in Northeast India
- On January 29, 2025, the central government approved a 160-km high-speed corridor between Shillong and Silchar under the Bharatmala plan. The four-lane project aims to enhance connectivity, facilitate defense movement, and strengthen trade links across Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura.
- The corridor will replace the deteriorating NH-6, which faces frequent disruptions due to poor road conditions and landslides, especially in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills. The new expressway is expected to reduce travel time, improve road safety, and boost economic activity in the region.
- In addition to this, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has also approved the Amingaon-Barpeta Bypass. Assam Chief Minister emphasized the government’s focus on road and bridge connectivity, highlighting ongoing work on 1,085 bridges under the World Bank-funded Assam Resilient Rural Bridge Programme, with a total investment of ₹4,359 crore.

2745. Union Minister Vaishnaw Unveils Rs 7,000 Cr IT Investment At Make in Odisha Conclave 2025
- Union Minister for Railways, Electronics & IT, and Information & Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, spotlighted Odisha’s pivotal role in shaping India’s technological future at the Sectoral Session on IT/ITeS/ESDM during the Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave 2025.
- The Union Minister announced a ₹7,000 crore investment in Odisha’s IT sector, aimed at transforming the state into a leading hub for innovation and digital excellence. He also unveiled plans for a massive 15 million sq. ft. of state-of-the-art IT facilities to attract global companies, cementing Odisha’s position as a preferred IT destination

2746. ISRO scores a 100, PSLV takes the cake with most to space
- On January 29, 2025, The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved a historic milestone with its 100th mission and revealed an ambitious future plan of crossing the next 100 launches in five years. Starting off with the SLV in 1979, the space agency crossed the 100-mission mark after 46 years, but what stands out is the PSLV's dominance through the years with 62 missions.
- PSLV has been used for 62 missions, GSLV with indigenous cryogenic upper stage comes next with 17. LVM3 (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle MkIII--the heaviest rocket) with 7 and SSLV (Small Satellite Launch Vehicle) 3, follow suit.
- The first launch of PSLV was PSLV-D1 launched on September 20, 1993. It was an unsuccessful attempt. However, the rocket made its first successful launch in October 1994 and later emerged as the most reliable and versatile launch vehicle of ISRO.
2747. In India's First Defence Export, OCF Avadi In Tamil Nadu Dispatches 4500 Military Uniforms To Republic Of Suriname
- On January 28, 2025, In a major boost to the countrys' defence sector, the Defence Ministry's Army Ordnance Clothing Factory (OCF) in Tamil Nadu's Avadi exported the country's first defence consignment to the Republic of Suriname.
- The consignment of 4500 army uniforms were dispatched to the South American country from the Avadi Army Station where General Manager, BS Reddy flagged off the shipment. in the first phase, the 4,500 military uniforms have been exported to the country worth Rs 1.71 crore.
- Established in 1961, the OCF Avadi has supplied several crores of protective uniforms, tents, parachutes, bulletproof jackets and helmets to the defence, paramilitary and various state police forces.

2748. India starts to prepare ‘most dangerous’ Long Range
- On 29 january 2025 In a significant development for India’s defence industry growth, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India has reportedly commenced work on the development of the Rudram-IV.
- Rudram-IV is an advanced air-to-surface weapon system, with a range exceeding 300 kilometres, making it one of dangerous weapons of India.
- The Rudram is a series of supersonic and hypersonic air-to-surface ground attack and anti-radiation missiles in development by DRDO.
2749. UPI’s share in India’s digital payments surged to 83%: RBI report
- The share of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in India’s digital payments has surged from 34 per cent in 2019 to an impressive 83 per cent in 2024, with a remarkable compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 74 per cent over the last five years, according to the RBI’s payment system report.
- In contrast, the share of other payment systems like RTGS, NEFT, IMPS, credit cards, debit cards, etc., in digital payments volume declined from 66 per cent to 17 per cent during the same period, the report states.
- At a macro level, the volume of UPI transactions increased from 375 crore in 2018 to 17,221 crore in 2024, whereas the total value of transactions surged from ₹5.86 lakh crore in 2018 to ₹246.83 lakh crore in 2024. This amounts to a five-year CAGR of 89.3 per cent and 86.5 per cent in terms of volume and value, respectively, the report states.

2750. UPI gaining traction among IPO investors
- On January 29, 2025, The value of transactions executed via UPI is in line with the total issue size of IPOs for a particular month, RBI said in a report. Calendar 2024 was a landmark year for IPOs, with over 90 companies collectively raising ₹1.62 lakh crore — more than double the ₹49,436 crore raised in 2023.
- In all, there are 30 UPI apps live for IPOs, seven sponsor banks, and 51 customer banks that are eligible to act as issuer banks on the platform.
- The UPI transaction limit was raised from ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh in December 2021 to promote increased participation of retail customers in financial markets, including investments in G-secs through the retail direct scheme and payments for IPOs.
