2721. ISRO's budget rises to ₹13,415cr as major space missions approach
- On 1 february 2025 The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has received a financial boost in the Union Budget for 2025-26.
- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has allocated ₹13,415.20 crore to the Department of Space, an increase from last year's budget of ₹13,042.75 crore.

2722. Centre Allocates Rs 41,000 Crore to Jammu Kashmir in Union Budget 2025-26
- On February 1, 2025, the Union Government allocated ₹41,000.07 crore for Jammu and Kashmir as part of the Union Budget 2025-26.
- The funds are primarily aimed at bridging the region’s resource gap and supporting developmental projects.
- Of the total allocation, ₹40,619.30 crore has been earmarked as central assistance, ₹279 crore is designated for the Union Territory Disaster Response Fund, and ₹101.77 crore has been allocated for infrastructure-related resource gap funding.
2723. India’s largest cake & bake expo comes to Guwahati
- On January 30, 2025, Cakeology 2025, India’s largest Cake & Bake Expo, made its debut in Guwahati at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre. The three-day event, running from January 31 to February 2, is expected to be a major milestone for the baking and hospitality industries in Northeast India.
- Originally launched in Mumbai eight years ago, Cakeology has grown into the country’s leading baking expo. The event provides a platform for cake artists, home bakers, pastry chefs, restaurant owners, and food entrepreneurs to network, learn, and showcase their expertise.

2725. India’s MedTech exports reach $3.8 Bn in 2024, global share to hit double digits soon
- On the back of rising export capabilities of the domestic medtech players which touched $3.8 billion last year (2024) the government expects that the industry is on track to expand its global share from 1.65 per cent to 10-12 per cent in the coming years.
- “India is rapidly emerging as a MedTech powerhouse, our exports reached $3.8 billion last year, reflecting the sector’s growing manufacturing strength and global competitiveness,” Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilisers said.
- India’s MedTech industry poised to double its market size to $30 billion by 2030 and expand its global share from 1.65 per cent to 10-12 per cent.

2726. India to seal Rafale-M, Scorpene deals with France soon
- India is set to finalize the purchase of 26 naval Rafale jets and three Scorpene submarines from France in the coming weeks, boosting its naval capabilities.
- The deals, aimed for completion before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Paris, require approval from the Cabinet Committee on Security.
- Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron are expected to hold bilateral talks on the sideline of the summit, being held on February 10 and 11. - The US is urging India to ramp up military purchases, with defence sales exceeding $25 billion since 2007. The Trump administration is putting increasing pressure on India to bolster its military procurement from the United States.
- In a phone call on January 27. 2025, President Donald Trump directly called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to expand India’s acquisition of US military technology, including fighter jets, drones, and armoured vehicles.
- Just months ago, India signed a mega $3.3 billion deal with the US government to purchase 31 weaponised MQ-9B Predator drones. Additionally, another $520 million contract was signed with drone manufacturer General Atomics to set up a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility in India.
2728. Australia to invests $200 million to strengthen trade and business ties with India, says Philip Green
- Australia is significantly boosting its commitment to trade and investment with India, according to Philip Green, the Australian High Commissioner to India.
- Speaking to CNBC-TV18 Green highlighted that Australia will be investing $200 million for government business support across various sectors in India.
- Green pointed out that India's exports to Australia have grown at an impressive rate. “India’s exports to the world over the last five years have increased by 35%.
2729. Apple expanding manufacturing in India to meet domestic demand, global export needs: Tim Cook
- Apple CEO Tim Cook on January 31, 2025 said that the company is expanding its manufacturing in India to meet both domestic demand and global export needs.
- During a call with investors discussing the company's quarterly results, Cook also expressed his enthusiasm for the Indian market.
- In 2024, Apple surpassed the Rs 1 trillion mark for iPhone exports from India, achieving record outbound shipments of USD 12.8 billion (Rs 1.08 trillion), reflecting a 42% year-on-year increase.

2730. Tissue Transplant to Be Available Soon at ZMCH says Mizoram Health Minister
- On January 30, 2025, Mizoram Health Minister announced that tissue transplantation services will soon be available at Zoram Medical College and Hospital (ZMCH). The state-run hospital is preparing for the launch with support from the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO).
- Necessary arrangements, including the appointment of a transplant coordinator, consultant, and medical staff, are underway. An operation theater has already been set up, and the hospital is awaiting the required license. Once approved, medical experts from other states will conduct kidney and heart transplants at ZMCH.
- The initiative is expected to make life-saving transplants more affordable, with heart transplant costs projected to be ₹1 lakh at ZMCH, compared to ₹9 lakh at private hospitals in Aizawl. Additionally, the Mizoram government has fully taken over the Zoram Medical College Society and is addressing the shortage of healthcare workers by planning the recruitment of 100 medical personnel.
