23011. Ministry of Electronics, IT invites applications from domestic companies for semiconductor chip design
- the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is seeking applications from 100 domestic companies, start-ups and MSMEs under its Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme.
- the scheme, which was a part of Rs 76,000 crore (USD 10 billion) package that the government announced in December, aims to nurture at least 20 domestic companies involved in semiconductor design and facilitate them to achieve turnover of more than Rs 1500 crore in the next five years.
- A dedicated portal has been made available for inviting Online applications from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2024. The applicants can find the guidelines of the DLI Scheme on the portal and register themselves for availing of support under the scheme.

23014. Renuka Ji dam project: Construction to begin in December 2022
- “The construction for the project is expected to start by December 2022 and will be completed in six years. The project will provide approximately 13.14 lakh man days of work. In line with the resettlement and rehabilitation policy, programmes to enhance the employability of the local youth will also be conducted.
- The plan for Catchment Area Treatment works with a total outlay of Rs 1,60,34,25,000 has been included in the overall scheme. After commissioning of the project, one per cent of the annual revenue will be distributed to the beneficiaries in the affected area every year,” said a spokesperson of the state government.
- “The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Renuka Ji dam was accepted by the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Department of Water Resources in 2000 for a total price of Rs 1,224.64 crore. However, the project could not progress much owing to some reasons. The DPR of the project with an estimated cost of Rs 4,596.76 crore was again accepted by the TAC in 2015.
23015. IOC To Invest ₹ 7,000 Crore In City Gas Distribution Networks
- Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) said it will invest over ₹ 7,000 crore in setting up city gas distribution (CGD) networks in the cities for which it has secured a licence in the latest bidding round.
- IOC secured 33 per cent of the demand potential that was up for grabs in the recently concluded 11th round of CGD bidding, cornering cities from Jammu to Madurai to Haldia, the firm said.
- Of the 61 geographical areas or GAs that received bids in the 11th round city gas distribution (CGD) bidding, IOC got 9 licenses to retail CNG to automobiles and piped cooking gas to households. Though the GAs it won were less than Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd's 15 licences and Adani Total Gas Ltd's 14, in the terms of demand potential it got the maximum.
23016. 85,000 specialised engineers will receive training to establish a self-reliant semiconductor ecosystem in country, says Vaishnaw
- Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Sunday that 100 academic institutions/R&D organisations/startups/Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) will train 85,000 specialised engineers to help establish an 'Aatmanirbhar' (self-reliant) semiconductor ecosystem in the country.

23018. Health Minister releases commemorative Postal Stamp on COVID-19 Vaccine to mark 1st anniversary of India's National COVID Vaccination program
- Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya today released a commemorative Postal Stamp on COVID-19 Vaccine to mark the first anniversary of India's National Covid-19 Vaccination program. This stamp signifies the remarkable work done by the frontline healthcare workers and scientific community across the country in protecting the people against the COVID pandemic.
- Vaccination was made free for everyone above 18 years of age on 21st June, 2021. The current vaccine production capacity of Covishield in India is approximately 25 crore doses per month, and that of Covaxin is around six crore doses per month.
- The Minister said, 93 per cent of people above 18 years are vaccinated with 1st dose and 70 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.
23019. This Ratan Tata-backed fuel-to-door startup wins National Startup Award 2021
- Today on the National Startup Day, Pune-based Repos was awarded the National Startup Award 2021 at the prestigious 6-day Startup India Innovation Week.
- Repos was amongst the 150 entrepreneurs who got the opportunity to present their policy recommendations at the virtual gathering presided by PM Narendra Modi. Repos won this award in the Energy distribution category.
- The Ratan Tata-backed startup, Repos, was recognized by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for their door-to-door delivery of fuel.
23020. IIT Kanpur launches two new departments in the fields of design, space science and astronomy
- The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has approved setting up two new departments in the fields of Design, Space Science and Astronomy, making the total tally to 20 academic departments.
- The institute’s design programme that has been in existence since 2002 will be transformed into the Department of Design. The institute is also planning to launch a Bachelor of Design programme starting as early as 2023.
- The Design Department will have a design cell to address the needs of the industry in areas of new product conceptualization and development, product design, engineering design, branding, user experience, and packaging.
- The institute claims it to be one of the first-of-its-kind departments in India to bring together engineers, astronomers, astrophysicists, and planetary scientists in order to meet the growing requirement of education, training and research in some vital areas of research, such as instrumentation for space missions and Astronomical observatories, Spacecraft design, and Space Mission planning, among others.
