2191. Tripura CM announces Rs 100 crore for new eye hospital
- On April 7, 2025, Tripura Chief Minister announced an allocation of Rs 100 crore in this year’s budget for a new state-of-the-art eye hospital, revealed during his speech at a World Health Day event organized by the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura in Agartala.
- CM, who oversees the health portfolio, highlighted ongoing healthcare improvements, including a Maternal and Child Clinic backed by Rs 150 crore from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), alongside plans to expand Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and the healthcare workforce across the state.
- Emphasizing preventive healthcare, he stressed the importance of healthy lifestyles to combat diseases, raised concerns about drug addiction driving HIV/AIDS cases, and called for societal action against drug abuse and child marriage, noting Tripura’s growing appeal to private hospitals due to prevailing peace.
- The proposed eye hospital will feature modern facilities, aligning with the government’s broader efforts to enhance healthcare infrastructure, promote health awareness, and ensure citizen well-being, with Saha urging collective responsibility to tackle lifestyle-related premature deaths and social issues.

2192. Centre sanctions Rs 770 crore for NH-717A upgradation in Darjeeling and Sikkim, MP Raju Bista welcomes move
- On April 7, 2025, the Union Government sanctioned Rs 770.25 crore for the upgradation of NH-717A in Darjeeling and Sikkim, a move welcomed by Darjeeling MP and BJP National Spokesperson as a transformative step for the Darjeeling hills, Terai, Dooars, and Sikkim regions.
- Union Minister announced on April 6 that the project spans 23.7 km, including 18.42 km from Lavamore to Pedong Bypass in West Bengal and 5.297 km from Reshi to Rhenock in Sikkim, with additional slope protection along the Bagrakot-Kafer stretch in Kalimpong using advanced tools like Self Drilling Anchors and Gabion structures.
- MP said that, who had pushed for slope stabilization after identifying gaps in the initial Detailed Project Report, emphasized that the upgraded NH-717A will serve as a climate-resilient alternative to the monsoon-disrupted NH-10, enhancing safety and all-weather connectivity for residents and tourists.

2193. Over Rs 300 crore allocated to tourism sector in J&K in 2 years: Govt
- On April 7, 2025, the Jammu and Kashmir Government announced that it has allocated over Rs 305.27 crore in the past two financial years (2022-23 and 2023-24) to strengthen the tourism sector across the Union Territory, with specific funds directed to both Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
- According to data from Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Kashmir division received Rs 9,210 lakh in 2022-23 and Rs 9,527 lakh in 2023-24, while Jammu division was granted Rs 5,685 lakh in 2022-23 and Rs 6,105 lakh in 2023-24, reflecting a balanced approach to tourism growth.
- The government’s initiatives have significantly boosted tourist numbers, with 1.29 crore visitors (excluding pilgrims) in two years—55,15,679 in 2023 and 74,48,688 in 2024—alongside a rise in foreign tourists from 55,327 in 2023 to 65,452 in 2024, totaling 1,20,779.
- These efforts, paired with increased funding, indicate a long-term policy shift towards sustainable and equitable tourism development, opening new areas and enhancing footfall, contributing to the region’s economic and cultural revitalization.

2194. Indian Railways sets new record with production of 41,929 wagons to boost cargo capacity
- On 4 April 2025, Ministry of railways announced that, Indian Railways had achieved a record-breaking feat in wagon production, manufacturing 41,929 wagons in the financial year 2024–25 — the highest ever in a single year. This marks an 11% year-on-year increase over the 37,650 wagons produced in FY 2023–24.
- Between 2004 and 2014, the average annual wagon production stood at 13,262 units. This figure rose to an average of 15,875 units per year during the 2014–2024 period.
- The increase in rail freight capacity is also expected to bring substantial economic and environmental benefits. Enhanced wagon availability reduces reliance on road transport, cutting fuel consumption and lowering emissions—key to meeting India’s sustainability goals.
2195. PM Modi inaugurates new rail bridge in Rameswaram
- On 6 April 2025 Prime Minister of india inaugurated the newly constructed Pamban bridge on April 6, 2025. It will replace a 110-year-old structure that once connected Rameswaram to the Indian mainland.
- The Pamban bridge, India’s first sea bridge, was an engineering marvel of its time. Standing 12.5 meters above sea level, it stretched across 145 piers and featured a double-leaf bascule span—a Scherzer rolling lift bridge—that opened for ships to pass through.
- The idea of linking India and Sri Lanka, then Ceylon, through the Adam’s Bridge route was first explored in 1876. However, the plan was shelved due to high costs. Eventually, a more feasible plan was approved in 1906
- The railway line from Madurai to Dhanushkodi via Rameswaram, and a steamer service from Dhanushkodi to Sri Lanka.

- On 7 April 2025 The redevelopment project of Rani Kamalapati station, executed through a public-private partnership, has established a benchmark and a model for other railway stations. Modeled after Germany’s Heidelberg railway station, Rani Kamalapati is recognized as India’s first world-class railway station.

- Rani Kamalapati Railway Station is part of the West Central Railway Zone (WCR) and serves as the headquarters for the Bhopal railway division. Its transformation is a part of Indian Railways’ broader initiative to modernize the country’s train services
2197. HAL To Outsource Rs 25,000 Crore Work To Private Sector In Manufacturing Of 156 Light Combat Helicopters
- On 7 April 2025 The landmark approval of a Rs 62,500 crore deal for 156 Light Combat Helicopters (LCHs) by the Cabinet Committee on Security, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is set to outsource approximately Rs 25,000 crore worth of work to private sector companies,
- The contract with the Ministry of Defence was signed on the same day as the clearance, marking a major step towards strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing.
- The Light Combat Aircraft manufacturing model in this programme as well. The HAL would soon be issuing tenders for involving the private sector in a big way in the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) project.
2198. India, Sri Lanka ink 10 agreements including in defence, power, energy
- On 7 April 2025 India and Sri Lanka concluded crucial agreements on defence cooperation, electric grid connectivity and an energy hub at Trincomalee .
- The two sides finalised ten agreements for cooperation in areas ranging from digital transformation to debt restructuring and health and medicine and the two leaders virtually inaugurated the Sampur power project that is to be built with Indian support
- The memorandum of understanding (MoU) on a framework for defence cooperation, the first such agreement between the two countries, will institutionalise joint exercises, training and high-level exchanges

2199. Vande Bharat Express: Transforming India’s Rail Connectivity
- India's 10th Vande Bharat Express was flagged off on April 8, 2023, connecting Secunderabad to the pilgrimage city of Tirupati. Covering 660 km in just 8.5 hours, this semi-high-speed train enhances travel convenience between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
- Operating six days a week, it stops at key stations like Nalgonda, Guntur, and Vijayawada. With fares starting at ₹1,590 for chair car and ₹2,970 for executive class, it offers a faster and more comfortable journey for passengers.
- India now has 66 Vande Bharat Express trains operating across multiple states, with Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu having the highest number of routes.
2200. Tripura gets Rs 76.47 crore sanction for rural connectivity boost
- On April 6, 2025, the Ministry of Rural Development sanctioned Rs 76.47 crore to Tripura under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) to enhance rural connectivity, approving 25 roads spanning 84.352 km to boost the state’s infrastructure.
- This follows an earlier sanction of 42 roads covering 118.756 km with an investment of Rs 114.32 crore in Tripura, while Odisha also received Rs 69.65 crore for 26 roads (63.271 km) and two long-span bridges, with prior approvals of 66 roads and four bridges worth Rs 219.40 crore.
- The initiative aims to provide all-weather road connectivity to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in both states, improving access to healthcare, education, and markets, while fostering economic growth, trade, and employment opportunities in rural areas.
- According to the official release, these projects under PM-JANMAN will transform the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities, bridge gaps between remote villages and urban centers, and align with the government’s vision of a developed India (Viksit Bharat) through inclusive development.
