20843. Explained: What is the new regional navigation satellite system or IRNSS?
- The navigation system can now replace GPS in the Indian Ocean waters upto 1500 km from the Indian boundary.
- The IRNSS is an independent regional navigation satellite system developed by India. It is designed to provide accurate position information service to assist in the navigation of ships in the Indian Ocean waters.
- The IMO had encouraged countries to design their own navigation systems, there are at least 2,500 merchant vessels in Indian waters that can all use the IRNSS.

- The proposal suggests the retirement age for colonels be increased from 54 to 57, brigadiers from 56 to 58 and major-generals from 58 to 59. The DMA wants a similar increase in retirement ages for personnel in the navy and air force as well.

- S The IAF carried out a long-range precision strike mission against a practice target at Pokhran in Rajasthan to mark the second anniversary of the pre-dawn bombing of the JeM terror facility at Balakot in Pakistan on February 26 in 2019.
