1161. Van Dhan Scheme launched by PM to help increase tribal income
- On April 14, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Van Dhan Scheme of Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) during the celebrations of Ambedkar Jayanti at Bijapur, Chattisgarh.
- The scheme envisages making tribals competent to add value to the products they collect from the jungle. Value addition will fetch better prices and will thereby increase the income of tribals engaged in this activity.
- Under Van Dhan, 10 Self Help Groups (SHGs) of 30 Tribal gatherers will be constituted. Each SHG will trained and provided with working capital to add value to the products, which they collect from the jungle. Training and technical support will be provided by TRIFED. Government is planning to set up 30000 centres across India for this purpose.
- The first “Van Dhan Vikas Kendra”, to be set up in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh will provide skill upgradation and capacity building training to 300 individuals and will have a primary processing and value addition facility.
1162. Tribal affairs ministry allocates Rs 10 cr for setting up 'Centre for Preservation and Promotion of Tribal Culture and Heritage'
- The Union Ministry for Tribal Affairs (MoTA) has allocated a budget of Rs 10 crores for the establishment of the 'Centre for Preservation and Promotion of Tribal Culture & Heritage' in Kharsawan district, Jharkhand.
- The Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, took strides towards preserving and promoting tribal culture and heritage by virtually laying the foundation stone.
- This initiative aims to showcase the physical and intangible tribal culture, history, and heritage of the region while serving as a knowledge and information center for assisting tribal communities in their development.
- The center is envisioned to become a live hub, allowing artisans to demonstrate their skills and promoting tourism in the region.
1163. MoTA Partners with IISc Bengaluru for Tribal Student Training in Semiconductor Technology
- Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), Government of India, has entrusted the project ‘Semiconductor Fabrication & Characterization Training for Students from Tribal Community’ to Centre for Nano Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru under the central sector scheme.
- The Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with IISc Bangalore will provide basic training to 1500 tribal students and advanced training to 600 tribal students, in semiconductor technology over the next three years.
- As informed by IISC, Bengaluru, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has created 6 large Nano centers (including IISc) for delivering training in Semiconductor technology. The degree programs at these nano centers have representation from tribal community, as per the reservation policies.
1164. Indian Navy commissions first 3D Air Surveillance Radar aboard warship
- On 11 september 2025 it was reported that, The Indian Navy has commissioned its first 3D Air Surveillance Radar, Lanza-N, aboard a warship. Developed by Tata Advanced Systems with Spain’s Indra, this marks the first operational deployment of Lanza-N outside Spain.
- Tata Advanced Systems and Indra collaborated to design, test, and integrate the radar after successful sea trials with multiple naval and aerial platforms. A new assembly and testing facility in Karnataka supports ongoing production and faster deliveries.
- Lanza-N is a long-range, three-dimensional tactical radar capable of detecting friendly and hostile air and surface targets. This milestone positions Tata Advanced Systems as the first Indian firm to deliver next-generation naval surveillance radar systems.
1165. Nagaland becomes first Northeast state to adopt ULIP
- On September 10, 2025, Nagaland became the first North Eastern state to integrate the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) under PM GatiShakti, announced during a state-level workshop in Kohima by the Directorate of Industries & Commerce.
- Officials including Director P. Tokugha Sema, Secretary Kumar Ramnikant, and NLDSL COO Arvind Devaraj highlighted ULIP’s role in improving infrastructure use, inter-departmental coordination, data-driven governance, and direct farmer-to-consumer connections through IT and AI-enabled logistics solutions.
- ULIP, implemented by NLDSL with Japan’s NEC, integrates data across ministries to reduce supply chain inefficiencies. The event concluded with an MoU between NLDSL and Nagaland, aiming to boost trade, disaster response, and Act East Policy opportunities.

1166. Space Tech Startup Astrophel Aerospace Indigenously Develops Cryogenic Pump to Propel Rocket Engines Into Orbit
- On 11 september 2025, it was reported that, Pune-based Astrophel Aerospace is currently testing its indigenously developed cryogenic pump at ISRO facilities. Once validated, the pump will be upgraded into a turbopump for integration into the Astra C1 rocket engine by late 2026.
- Co-founders Suyash Bafna and Immanuel Louis highlighted ISRO certification and global collaborations as key enablers. The cryo-pump, built from 50+ components, spins at 25,000 RPM, powering rocket engines sustainably without external batteries, unlike other electric-pump approaches.
- The one-litre sized pump generates 100–150 horsepower, scalable to 500–600 in turbopump form. India’s $8.4 billion space economy aims to reach $44 billion by 2033, with propulsion milestones like Astrophel’s vital for capturing 8% global market share.
1167. Tribal Affairs Ministry launches beta version of ‘Adi Sanskriti’ digital platform for tribal artforms
- The Ministry of Tribal Affairs on 10 september 2025 launched the beta version of “Adi Sanskriti”, a digital learning platform aimed at preserving and promoting tribal artforms, while enabling livelihoods and connecting communities with the world.
- Minister of State Durgadas Uikey unveiled the platform, developed with Tribal Research Institutes across 14 states, offering courses, cultural repositories, and an online marketplace to preserve tribal heritage, enable livelihoods, and connect communities globally.
- Adi Sanskriti includes 45 immersive courses under Adi Vishwavidyalaya, over 5,000 curated documents in Adi Sampada, and Adi Haat for artisans’ products via TRIFED, with phased expansion toward a full-fledged Tribal Digital University with certifications.
1168. Boost for Make in India: HAL receives third GE404 engine for LCA Mk1A
- On 11 September, 2025, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) received the third GE404 engine for the LCA Mk1A, with another engine scheduled for delivery by September 2025, strengthening the aircraft supply chain for India’s indigenous fighter jet program.
- HAL, in collaboration with partners like L&T, Tata Advanced Systems, and others, is advancing LCA Tejas production through structural assemblies and indigenisation, supported by Defence Production Secretary Sanjeev Kumar, who emphasized reducing foreign dependency and boosting self-reliance.
- HAL has partnered with 6,300 Indian vendors, including 2,448 MSMEs, placing orders worth ₹13,763 crore in three years, thereby generating jobs and strengthening India’s domestic aerospace supply chain under the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
1169. Asian Development Bank & Government Of India Sign $126.42 Million Loan Agreement To Promote Rural Development Through Tourism In Uttarakhand
- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the union government signed a $126.42 million loan agreement on 10 september,2025 to promote rural development through sustainable and climate-resilient tourism in the Tehri Lake region of Uttarakhand, the finance ministry said on 11 september,2025
- The project involves the Uttarakhand government and ADB, implementing multisector interventions like improved tourism planning, upgraded infrastructure, climate-resilient measures, and inclusive services led by women, youth, and private enterprises.
- The initiative targets over 87,000 residents and 2.7 million visitors, with features including livelihood grants, universal access designs, nature-based disaster mitigation, and a women-led disaster risk management pilot program.
1170. First survey in Eklavya schools to know learning, infra gaps
- In a major outreach to tribals living in remote areas, the ministry of tribal affairs has initiated the first-ever all-India survey to understand learning and infrastructure gaps in Eklavya Model residential schools (EMRS) - the premier residential schools funded by the Centre.
- The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), the nodal agency for construction and management of EMRS, has initiated the survey in all 479 functional EMRS with the help of National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET), Quality Council of India, an autonomous body under the ministry of commerce and industry.
- NABET teams have collected administrative data like principal's post graduation subject, whether there is a school website, total area of the school, its distance from the nearest primary health centre and number of students community-wise.
- In budget 2018-19, the Centre mooted the ambitious plan to set up one residential school for tribal students in every block with more than 50% ST population and at least 20,000 tribal persons. It has sanctioned 728 EMRS, of which 479 are functional.
