23523. Desperate for vaccine, Pakistan willing to go "extra mile" on Kashmir issue [details]
- With the announcement by global terror financing watchdog FATF nearing and Pakistan's desperation to get cheap COVID-19 vaccines growing, the Islamic nation on Friday said that it was willing to go "an extra mile" to "resolve the Kashmir issue". "Rather, it is because of our strength and confidence as a nation that we are prepared to go the extra mile to ensure a just peace that fulfills the legitimate aspirations of the Kashmiri people," Imran Khan said in a tweet.
- Pakistan has said it plans to vaccinate 70 per cent of its population against COVID-19 and started administering China's Sinopharm COVID-19. Bejing has donated half a million doses of Sinopharm vaccines to Pakistan.
- Pakistan said the Chinese vaccine is ineffective in people over 60 years of age. "At this stage, the expert committee has not authorised the Sinopharm vaccine for people older than 60," Pakistan's Special Assistant to the PM on Health Faisal Sultan said. Experts have expressed concerns over the safety and efficacy of the Chinese vaccine.
23524. India approves 100,000 Covishield doses for China ally Cambodia
- India approved on an urgent basis 100,000 doses of Covishield vaccine for Cambodia, China's Asean ally, taking its vaccine diplomacy deep into southeast Asia.
- Despite having received a million doses from China, Cambodian PM Hun Sen had earlier requested India for the vaccine saying that vaccines from China alone wouldn't be enough to meet Cambodia's requirements.
- According to the Indian embassy in Phnom Penh, the supply has been assured through the Serum Institute of India despite innumerable competing requests from partner countries and India's commitment to domestic population. - Amid Rihanna's intervention into farm laws stir, Barbados PM Mia Mottley has thanked PM Modi and India for donation of 100,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
- The note of thanks by Barbados prime minister comes at a time when pop singer Rihanna who is a Barbadian, sparked a massive controversy by tweeting in support of the ongoing farmers' protest in order to get global attention on the issue.
- In January, Mottley had written a letter to PM Modi requesting him for the supply of vaccines to counter the threat of the pandemic in the island nation. As a part of the global cooperation to counter the Covid-19 pandemic, India has supplied Coronavirus vaccines to a number of countries starting from neighbours - Nepal, Bhutan, Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh among others. This global assistance comes simultaneously with the ongoing vaccination drives across the country.

23526. Brazil looks to acquire 30 million COVID-19 vaccine doses from India, Russia
- Brazil's Health Ministry is negotiating the acquisition of 30 million doses of Russia's Sputnik V COVID19 vaccine and India's Covaxin vaccine, it said in a statement
- Bharat Biotech will be able to offer 8 million doses of Covaxin in February and another 12 million in March, the ministry said. It said the parties would meet on Friday to discuss the supply deal.

23527. Coronavirus | India gifts 56 lakh vaccine doses, 100 lakh doses as commercial supplies, says MEA
- Srivastava said external supplies of vaccines are an ongoing process, depending on availability and domestic requirements.
- India provided 56 lakh doses of coronavirus vaccines under grants assistance to a number of countries while 100 lakh doses were sent under commercial supplies, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
- MEA Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said Indian vaccines are scheduled to reach the Caribbean countries, Pacific Island states, Nicaragua, Afghanistan and Mongolia, in the coming weeks.

23528. Serum Institute Of India Delays Vaccines For Private Sale In Bangladesh
- Beximco's chief operating officer told Reuters last month the company could buy up to 3 million doses of the vaccine from SII at about $8 each for sale on the private market.
- The Bangladeshi company received 5 million of the 30 million doses it had ordered from SII for Bangladesh's immunisation programme that begins next week.
- "However, the company has now been informed by SII that the first instalment (500,000 doses) of this supply will be delayed following a prioritisation on supplying vaccine doses for government mass vaccination programmes and WHO-led COVAX initiatives over private pay use," Beximco said in a regulatory filing.
