23511. India Tests SFDR Technology Critical For Development Of Long Range Air-To-Air Missiles
- The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) tested its Solid Fueled Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) technology for the fourth time with a demonstration flight earlier.
- The development of SFDR technology will enable India to make its own long-range air-to-air missile, which could mirror the capabilities of the best missiles in this class, like MBDA’s Meteor, which the Indian Air Force uses on its Rafales.

23512. 'Personnel sphere' for 1st desi deep ocean manned mission being developed; Isro, DRDO provide expertise
- Along with the ongoing Gaganayaan programme to send a manned mission to space by 2023, the Centre is also simultaneously working on the country’s first manned scientific submersible for deep ocean missions. The project has been named ‘Samudrayaan’.
- National Institute of Ocean Technology, an autonomous institute under the ministry of earth sciences, has developed and tested a ‘personnel sphere’ for a manned submersible system.
- The personnel sphere of 2.1m diameter, to be used as a crew module for up to a depth of 500m, has been developed using mild steel and tested by sending it down 600m in the Bay of Bengal using the research vessel Sagar Nidhi in October this year, minister of earth sciences and S&T Jitendra Singh informed Rajya Sabha

- A video of a Canadian Opposition lawmaker quizzing sitting Procurement Minister Anita Anand over contacting India to procure Covid-19 vaccines for the country is being widely shared on social media.
- Michelle Rempel Garner, a Conservative MP and Shadow Minister for Health, in a meeting of the standing committee on health asked if the Trudeau government had reached out to Prime Minister Modi for vaccines.
- India has been sending out vaccine doses in large numbers to other countries under the "Vaccine Maitri" initiative. Till now, as many as 15 countries have received COVID-19 vaccine supplies from India, while another 25 countries are queued at different levels to receive supplies, Union Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar has said.
23514. Uzbekistan, India talk delivery terms of Indian vaccine against COVID-19
- Uzbekistan’s Pharmaceutical Industry Development Agency and Indian Bharat Biotech International Ltd. signed a memorandum of understanding, Trend reports with reference to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in India.
- According to the information, the parties discussed the conditions for registration and delivery of the Indian vaccine Covaxin against coronavirus to Uzbekistan.
- ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) emphasized the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine and donated its strain to Bharat Biotech to develop an inactivated vaccine. The vaccine has been fast-tracked for emergency use by the national regulatory authority, which has confirmed the drug is safe and immunogenic.

- भारत द्वारा भेजी गई एस्ट्राजेनेका की पांच लाख कोरोना वैक्सीन रविवार को अफगानिस्तान पहुंच गई। विदेश मंत्री एस जयशंकर ने ट्वीट करके इसकी जानकारी दी। उन्होंने ट्वीट में लिखा, 'मेड इन इंडिया वैक्सीन अफगानिस्तान पहुंच गई हैं।
- मानवीय सहायता के तौर पर इन वैक्सीन को मुंबई-दिल्ली-काबुल एयर इंडिया फ्लाइट से भेजा गया। भारत अभी तक नेपाल, बांग्लादेश, भूटान, मालदीव, सेशल्स, म्यांमार और मॉरीशस को कोरोना टीकों की खेप भेज चुका है।
- इतना ही नहीं सऊदी अरब, दक्षिण अफ्रीका, ब्राजील और मोरक्को सहित कई देशों को भी कोरोना वैक्सीन की आपूर्ति कर रहा है।

- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a telephone conversation with his Nepali counterpart and put pressure to accept the vaccines first under the condition that the details about the vaccines will be sent afterward; a topsy-turvy way of vaccine procurement.
- The P&G Holdings Pvt Ltd and Hospice Enterprises Pvt Ltd had applied for permission to supply Chinese vaccines to Nepal.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that there is a dilemma as to which company is the official company for importing vaccines.
23517. Coronavirus | 25 countries in queue for ‘Made in India’ COVID-19 vaccine: Jaishankar
- India has so far supplied COVID- 19 vaccine to 15 countries and another 25 nations are in the queue at different levels for the jab, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said in Amaravati on February 6.
- The Minister said some poor countries are being supplied the vaccine on a grant basis while some nations wanted it on par with the price that the Indian government pays to the vaccine makers.
- The Centre has already given the nod for two COVID-19 vaccines — Covaxin of city-based Bharat Biotech and Covishield of Oxford, being manufactured by Serum Institute of India in Pune, which are being administered to frontline workers from January 16, under Emergency Use Authorisation.
23518. India could export six million T sugar despite WTO ruling: Trade officials
- India could sell more than six million tonnes of sugar on the world market this year with a World Trade Organization ruling that it flouted the rules by offering export subsidies unlikely to have an impact on overseas sales, trade officials said.
- Robust sugar exports from the world's second biggest producer could keep a lid on global prices, which are currently trading near their highest level in 4-1/2 years because of lower output in top producer Brazil.
- "There is no export subsidy for sugar as of now and therefore there is absolutely no impact of the order of the WTO panel with regard to Indian sugar exports," said Abinash Verma, director general of the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), a body of top private sugar producers.

23519. Ford launches new EV charging project to help commercial customers go electric
- Ford is launching a new project to help its commercial customers switch to electric vehicles by selling them EV charging installation equipment and software management tools.
- The automaker says it expects to sell over 300,000 electric vehicles to businesses and government agencies over the next decade. To help ease the transition, Ford is launching a new project, called Ford Pro Charging, to offer the necessary software and hardware to aid in the charging of their electric vehicles.
- Ford also declined to disclose the amount of money it plans on spending on this project. Previously the company said it would spend $29 billion on electric and autonomous vehicles through 2025. Ford expects to start shipping the F-150 Lightning Pro, its electric pickup truck geared toward commercial customers, and the E-Transit van in 2022.
23520. Coronavirus vaccine: India to supply 1 lakh Covishield doses to Cambodia
- India's vaccine diplomacy has reached around 15 countries after the Centre promised to supply one lakh doses of Covishield doses to Cambodia.The Indian embassy in Cambodia said on Saturday, February 6, the decision is a testament to India's appreciation for Cambodia as an important partner and its concern for the health and prosperity of the people of Cambodia.
- As of February 2, India has supplied a total of 56 lakh doses as grant assistance and 105 lakh jabs as contract doses to 15 nations, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan informed Lok Sabha on Friday, February 5. These countries include Bhutan (1.5 lakh), Maldives (1 lakh), Nepal (10 lakh), Bangladesh (20 lakh), Myanmar (15 lakh), Mauritius (1 lakh), Seychelles (50,000), Sri Lanka (5 lakhs), Bahrain (1 lakh) and Oman (1 lakh).
- The health minister also informed that India has received requests for the supply of COVID-19 vaccines from 22 countries. Additionally, commercial exports have taken place to Brazil, Morocco, Bangladesh, South Africa, Egypt, Algeria, Kuwait, and the UAE.
