20961. PM Modi urges startups to ‘team up for toys’ for India to become global toy hub
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon startups and entrepreneurs to “team up for toys”, as he noted India’s miniscule share in the global toy market of over Rs 7 lakh crore and asserted that the country has talent and ability to become a hub for the industry.
- The prime minister had also recently chaired a meeting aimed at boosting India’s share in the global toy trade in which China is one of the largest manufacturers and exporters.
- He said the area for the sowing of kharif crops increased by seven per cent compared to last year, paddy by nearly 10 per cent, pulses close to five per cent, oilseeds around 13 per cent and cotton by about three per cent.

20962. Foreign companies rush to register in India to meet new 'AtmanirbharBharat' rules
- The tweaked public procurement order disqualifying companies with less than 20% domestic content from most government tenders has prompted foreign firms to set up their shops in India. The chartered accountancy (CA) firms have seen growing requests from various foreign companies to incorporate their wholly-owned subsidiaries in India to meet the revised tender criteria.
- In order to promote local manufacturing, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) amended the public procurement rules to ensure that only items with minimum 20% local content can participate in tenders floated by the government or any of its entities.
- items with more than 50% local content will get purchase preference over other items. The government had announced that no global tender will be issued for procurement of items worth less than Rs 200 crore. In a bid to support local manufacturing, the government has taken a slew of tariff and non-tariff measures especially to contain import of cheap items from China.

20964. Barry Callebaut announces opening of its new chocolate factory in Baramati, India
- The Barry Callebaut Group, the world's leading manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products, announced the official opening of its new chocolate and compound manufacturing facility, located in Baramati, India.
- Antoine de Saint-Affrique, CEO of the Barry Callebaut Group, said: "The new factory in Baramati celebrates India's rich chocolate heritage and marks a new milestone in Barry Callebaut's history of direct investment in India.
- Once fully operational, the 20,000 square meter facility will employ between 100 to 120 people, thus creating new skilled jobs, mainly in engineering and production. These steps will help Barry Callebaut to achieve its ambition of manufacturing the finest "Make in India" chocolate.
20965. Hitachi ABB Power Grids in India bags order worth Rs 160 crore to supply transformers to Indian Railways
- Piyush Goyal-led Indian Railways to use transformers by Hitachi ABB Power Grids! An order worth Rs 160 crore has been bagged by technology major Hitachi ABB Power Grids in India to supply transformers to Indian Railways.
- The order has been won by Hitachi ABB Power Grids in India, which is listed on the stock exchanges as ABB Power Products and Systems India Limited company, from the Government of India’s Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) and the Central Organization for Rail Electrification (CORE), to power electric freight locos for the national transporter, according to a PTI report. Indian Railways’ CLW is an electric locomotive manufacturer.
- The national transporter is aiming to create a future-ready rail system, bringing down logistics costs for the industry as well as supporting the Modi government’s Make in India’ initiative. This plan aligns with the Railway Ministry’s goal of achieving 100% electrification of Indian Railways by December 2023 and making the rail network a net-zero carbon emitter by the year 2030.

- Swapnil Gawande, founder of Deesha International Eye Banks, was all of 10 when he lost his close friend Abdul to dengue in 2006. Swapnil always wished to find a way to help Abdul see, who was born visually impaired. But the tragic incident stirred something in him and Swapnil started paying more attention to news regarding eye donations.
- The 29-year-old now runs five eye banks across Maharashtra. His organisation has encouraged more than 14 lakh people for eye donations. The eye banks were launched after the amendment of the Transplantation of Human Organ Act (THO) in 2011 to prohibit the sale of organs in 2009.
- The efforts of establishing infrastructure is worthless if people are not sensitised properly, says Swapnil. So he has formed a team of 2,700 volunteers, mostly aged between 20-30 to spread awareness in rural and tribal belts of the state.
20967. India to supply locomotives, technology to Bangladesh railways
- India is ready to supply locomotives and passenger carriages and transfer technology for railway signalling systems to Bangladesh as part of ongoing cooperation between the two sides to improve connectivity.
- The Indian side expressed its readiness to supply locomotives, diesel electric multiple unit (DEMU) train, mainline electric multiple unit (MEMU) train as well as passenger carriages and transfer of technology for railway signalling system to Bangladesh.
- India and Bangladesh are currently working to restore seven rail links that were operational till 1965, and five have already been made operational. India provided 10 diesel locomotives to Bangladesh as grant assistance in 2020.

20968. Indian jugaad: Man turns car into helicopter, rents it for weddings
- a bright-minded mechanic cum artist from Bagaha, Bihar thought of a way around the situation and made the decision to turn a Tata Nano into a helicopter so that other grooms can hire for their weddings.
- Guddu Sharma decided to spend Rs 2 lakh of his own money to turn the Nano into a helicopter, he apparently used certain sensors to prepare the car.
- This invention is a smash hit already as 19 people have already booked the service. The helicopter is available for hire at a price of Rs15,000.
