1271. After 70 Years, 82 Families In Tripura's Remote Villages Get Electricity Under PM-DevINE
- After 70 years, 82 families of the remote villages of Batta Para and Shambhuram Para under the Gandacherra sub-division of Tripura's Dhalai district have been connected with electricity as part of the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East (PM-DevINE).
- Through the PM-DevINE project, the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency, under the Electricity Department, has successfully brought light and energy to Batta Para and Shambhuram Para in the Ganganagar block of the Dhalai district.
- Every home, 46 in Batta Para and 36 in Shambhuram Para, has been connected with electricity and essential facilities through solar energy. The streets are now illuminated, and a proper water supply system has also been installed.
- Apart from these 82 families, another 34 families in nearby settlements also require electricity and water.

1272. Dichu, India’s First Border Village Near Doklam, Gets Electricity for the First Time
- India's first border village - Dichu, located near the strategic Dok-La Post at the tri-junction of India, China, and Bhutan has been electrified for the first time, marking a landmark step towards inclusive development and national security.
- The Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army took charge of the mission. Working under challenging terrain and weather conditions, they ensured that power supply was successfully established in the village.
- The turning point came on January 4, 2025, when Governor Mathur made a visit to the isolated village of Dichu. During his interaction with the local residents, he discovered that the village still lacked access to electricity; a basic necessity.
- The move has not only improved the quality of life for the villagers but also served as a morale booster for those living in one of the most remote corners of the country.

1273. Phased Manufacturing Programme (PMP) set make India a mobile manufacturing superpower
- On May 5, 2017, India launched the Phased Manufacturing Programme (PMP) to boost domestic mobile production and reduce import dependence.
- Introduced by the Ministry of Electronics and IT, PMP offers tax incentives to promote local manufacturing of mobile phones and components.
- Within two years, 40 mobile handset units and 30 component units were set up, creating over 1 lakh direct jobs.
- Mobile production rose from 11 crore units Rs. 54,000 crore in 2015-16 to 17.5 crore units Rs 90,000 crore in 2016-17.
1274. Tributes: Indian Railways Honors War Heroes and Freedom Fighters with Named Locomotives
- Indian Railways has expanded its initiative of naming locomotives after war heroes and freedom fighters, with recent ceremonies held at Devlali station in Maharashtra and other locations in Uttar Pradesh in March 2025.
- Electric and diesel locomotives were unveiled in honour of Subedar Major Shivaji Krishna Ghadge, Major General Cyrus A Pithawalla, the 13 Kumaon Battalion, and Major Shaitan Singh, transforming them into “moving memorials” celebrating bravery and sacrifice.
- Started in 2023, this tribute initiative aims to preserve the legacy of both fallen and living heroes, inspiring passengers and fostering national pride as these locomotives traverse India’s vast railway network.
1275. Naxal Affected Garu Village in Jharkhand Gets Electricity for the First Time
- A Naxal-hit village in Jharkhand has celebrated Diwali in its "true sense" this year as electricity has reached here for the first time.
- Garu village, about 1,400 kms from New Delhi and 175 kms from the state capital Ranchi, comes under the jurisdiction of Latehar district which is among the most Naxal-infested areas of the state.
- Garu village had long been ignored in development schemes as Naxals were not allowing any work to be undertaken by carrying out attacks.
- The electrification of the village was almost impossible without the involvement of Labhar area, which was once a training camp and launch pad of Naxals.
1276. Jokapatha Village Received Electricity for First Time Since Independence
- A tribal village in Chhattisgarh's Balrampur district got electricity connection for the first time. The Jokapatha village, situated in mountainous region, had been deprived of power supply since independence.
- Expressing happiness over the development, a villager said that the electricity supply would help their children do well in their studies.
- Under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana, the central government connected the village to the power grid, bringing light and modern energy access to its residents after seven decades.
1277. Jhalpi Para Village Received Electricity for the First Time
- Jhalpi Para village in Chhattisgarh's Balrampur district got electricity connection for the first time. The region was deprived of power supply since independence.
- It comes after a news agency had reported the discontent of residents of the village over the absence of power supply.
- The villagers alleged that there is no electricity connection in the houses but meters have been installed due to which they are receiving electricity bills.
- The district administration, denied the claim of villagers receiving electricity bill while assuring that power supply will be provided in the area very soon. In March last year, 2018, the Government of India had stated that out of 18,452 villages in India that were power deprived 3 years ago, 17,181 have been electrified.
1278. Global OEMs begin mobile assembly in India under 'Make in India'
- On January 27, 2015, it was reported that global brands Xiaomi and Samsung, along with Lava, became the first major mobile OEMs to start local smartphone assembly in India, marking the early success of the Make in India initiative.
- Xiaomi partnered with Foxconn in August 2015 to locally assemble the Redmi 2 Prime at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, its first “Made for India” phone. This move reduced import costs and aligned with Foxconn’s $5 billion investment plan in India.
- In early 2015, Samsung expanded its Noida plant to manufacture models like the Samsung Z1 and Galaxy S6, investing ₹517 crore and collaborating with MSMEs to develop local skills. It also utilized its Sriperumbudur facility for mobile and consumer electronics.
- Lava began smartphone manufacturing in April 2015 at Noida with a capacity of 1 million units/month, announcing a ₹2,615 crore investment over seven years to build two large plants and an additional ₹200 crore for R&D and testing capabilities.

1279. Navi Talai Village of Maharashtra Gets Electricity for the First Time
- Navi Talai, a tribal village in Akola district of Maharashtra, erupted in joy when they got electricity in their homes for the first time.
- Earlier residing in the core area of the Melghat Tiger Project in Amravati district, they were shifted and rehabilitated by authorities in Navi Talai in 2018.
- The village under Telhara taluka, which has a population of around 540, was without electricity connection since then, forcing people to live in darkness.
- The groundwork for bringing electricity to the village was prepared by local social activist Gopal Kolhe and MLC Amol Mitkari, who regularly visited Navi Talai and liaised with MSEDCL for setting up transformers and to ensure every home gets power connection.
1280. Sukma Village in Chhattisgarh Gets Electricity for the First Time
- In a historic development, Elmagunda, one of the most sensitive regions in the Maoist-affected Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, has finally been illuminated with electricity, marking a significant stride forward just a day before India's 77th Independence Day anniversary.
- The population of approximately 500 residents, Elmagunda is situated near the borders of Bijapur district and Telangana state.
- The successful electrification project was a collaborative effort between the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL), District Police, and the Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF).
