1261. Leisang Village Gets Electricity After independence
- Some 80 people at a village in Manipur have finally got power connection in their homes. Prime Minister had claimed that Leisang village, 100 kilometres from Manipur's capital Imphal, was the last village in the country to get electricity.
- Glowing bulbs and televisions are seen in the houses now. But the villagers say there are miles to go -- for example, to collect water.
- Though PM himself tweeted about Leisang being the last village in the country to be electrified, the light at the end of the tunnel for the people of the village is still some distance away.

1262. Samsung inaugurated the World’s largest mobile phone Factory in Noida
- On July 9, 2018, Samsung doubled it's production capacity in India by opening the world’s largest mobile factory, aiming to expand exports under the ‘Make for the World’ initiative.
- Samsung inaugurated a 129,000 sq. metre mobile phone manufacturing facility in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, increasing its production capacity from 68 million to 120 million units annually by 2020.
- The factory, launched with an investment of Rs 4,915 crore, was jointly inaugurated by the Prime Minister and the South Korean President.
- Aligned with ‘Make in India’, the plant supports Samsung’s global export strategy through its new ‘Make for the World’ initiative.
1263. Gibahappa Village of Arunachal Pradesh Gets Electricity for the First Time
- Gibahappa – a little known village inhabited by 16 families – near Arunachal Pradesh Capital, received electricity for the first time with the inauguration of a 14-unit solar home lighting system.
- The safety fencing and other electrical items, such as fans and lighting system, were sanctioned from the DC’s untied fund, 2017-’18, stated an official communiqué.
- Located approximately 10-km from the capital, to inaugurate the solar lighting system that was sanctioned from the DC’s untied fund and executed by the Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA).

1264. Shinnyu Village Gets Electricity for the First Time Through Solar Power
- Shinnyu, a remote village in Mon district of Nagaland bordering Myanmar, got access to electricity for the first time with the district administration and the Global Himalayan Expedition electrifying the village with solar power.
- Altogether 60 households, a church and a community hall of the village have been electrified using solar power at a cost of Rs 23 lakh. The project was financed under corporate social responsibility and executed by the Global Himalayan Expedition.
- The Global Himalayan Expedition to set up solar microgrids in these remote unelectrified villages and help solve the energy access issue. The Global Himalayan Expedition works towards providing clean energy access through solar power to remote communities and won the United Nations Global Climate Action Award 2020.
- Mon district of Nagaland is one of the most backward regions of the State and topographically, the villages are in a hilly region and very difficult to access due to poor road connectivity

1265. On Netaji Birth Anniversary, Spotlight Back On This Jharkhand Station From Where He Made 'Great Escape'
- On 23 jan 2025, Gomoh railway station in Jharkhand, renamed Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Gomoh Junction in 2009, is where Netaji began his daring escape on January 18, 1941, by boarding the Howrah-Peshawar Mail in disguise.
- Netaji, aided by close associates, traveled secretly in his Baby Austin car and evaded British surveillance, making Gomoh a pivotal landmark in India’s freedom struggle.
- The station honours his courage and leadership with a bronze statue and commemorations, keeping alive the legacy of his historic “Great Escape.”
1266. Assam Remote villages of Karbi Anglong get electricity for the first
- It was a bright moment in their life when they had, for the first time, their houses lit up with an electric bulb. These are the members of the 2,600 households in the remote villages of Bokajan assembly constituency in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.
- Residents of the Rongteke area, Tokbi, Rongpi, Timung , Samjel, Mukhang, Muljang, Dakiram Tokbi, Bule Thang Kuki, Molnom, Hengmul were delighted when the first bulb lit in their locality.
- Prime Minister Narendra and Assam Chief Minister endeavour of providing electricity to people in the remote areas of the state.
- Around 2,600 households get benefits from this. Previously electricity connectivity was given to more than 5,000 households living in hill areas in the state.

1267. India becomes the World’s second-largest mobile phone producer
- On April 2, 2018, India surpassed Vietnam to become the world’s second-largest mobile phone producer in 2017, contributing 11% of global mobile production.
- According to the Indian Cellular Association (ICA), India accounted for 11% of global mobile phone production in 2017, up from just 3% in 2014. The country overtook Vietnam to claim the second spot globally, after China.
- Domestic production also helped cut mobile phone imports by over 50% in 2017-18, with fully built imported units falling from 78% (2014-15) to just 18%.
- The Fast Track Task Force (FTTF), under the Ministry of Electronics and IT, set targets to produce 500 million mobile phones worth $46 billion and generate $8 billion in component manufacturing by 2019. The plan also aimed to create 1.5 million jobs and export 120 million mobile phones worth $1.5 billion.

1268. After 70 Years, 82 Families In Tripura's Remote Villages Get Electricity Under PM-DevINE
- After 70 years, 82 families of the remote villages of Batta Para and Shambhuram Para under the Gandacherra sub-division of Tripura's Dhalai district have been connected with electricity as part of the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East (PM-DevINE).
- Through the PM-DevINE project, the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency, under the Electricity Department, has successfully brought light and energy to Batta Para and Shambhuram Para in the Ganganagar block of the Dhalai district.
- Every home, 46 in Batta Para and 36 in Shambhuram Para, has been connected with electricity and essential facilities through solar energy. The streets are now illuminated, and a proper water supply system has also been installed.
- Apart from these 82 families, another 34 families in nearby settlements also require electricity and water.

1269. Dichu, India’s First Border Village Near Doklam, Gets Electricity for the First Time
- India's first border village - Dichu, located near the strategic Dok-La Post at the tri-junction of India, China, and Bhutan has been electrified for the first time, marking a landmark step towards inclusive development and national security.
- The Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army took charge of the mission. Working under challenging terrain and weather conditions, they ensured that power supply was successfully established in the village.
- The turning point came on January 4, 2025, when Governor Mathur made a visit to the isolated village of Dichu. During his interaction with the local residents, he discovered that the village still lacked access to electricity; a basic necessity.
- The move has not only improved the quality of life for the villagers but also served as a morale booster for those living in one of the most remote corners of the country.

1270. Phased Manufacturing Programme (PMP) set make India a mobile manufacturing superpower
- On May 5, 2017, India launched the Phased Manufacturing Programme (PMP) to boost domestic mobile production and reduce import dependence.
- Introduced by the Ministry of Electronics and IT, PMP offers tax incentives to promote local manufacturing of mobile phones and components.
- Within two years, 40 mobile handset units and 30 component units were set up, creating over 1 lakh direct jobs.
- Mobile production rose from 11 crore units Rs. 54,000 crore in 2015-16 to 17.5 crore units Rs 90,000 crore in 2016-17.
