1181. Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways inaugurates green hydrogen pilot plant
- On September 5, 2025, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways inaugurated a green hydrogen pilot plant and laid foundation stones for multiple projects at V O Chidambaranar (VOC) Port, Tamil Nadu, under the Sagarmala programme to boost maritime infrastructure and coastal livelihoods.
- The projects, driven by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, include fishing harbours at Koonthookal, Pompuhar, Sinamoton, and Mukaiyard. The National Technology Centre at IIT Chennai provides engineering solutions, while the Maritime Hackathon 2025 promotes innovation and collaboration in the sector.
- Plans include developing the Eastern Maritime Corridor to Vladivostok via Chennai, enhancing cruise tourism with a Tamil Nadu–Sri Lanka circuit, and upgrading passenger terminals. Sonowal also paid tribute to freedom fighter V O Chidambaranar for pioneering “swadeshi shipping” in India.
1182. Railways ministry approves ₹118-crore ROB near Katihar Junction
- On 5 september, 2025 It was reported that, The Ministry of Railways approved a ₹118 crore road over bridge (ROB) at Mukuria near Katihar Junction under Northeast Frontier Railway. The ROB will replace a level crossing on NH-31 and SH-98, easing long-standing commuter congestion.
- The project will be executed as a joint venture between the Railways and state authorities. Railway officials said it will enhance road safety for motorists and pedestrians, while also improving traffic flow on two major highways near Katihar.
- Work is expected to begin soon, with project planning and tendering already underway. The ROB aligns with the central government’s infrastructure push, focusing on modernizing transport systems and decongesting critical routes in Bihar’s transport network.
1183. H1 2025: Global Solar Additions Hit 380 GW, India Sees 49% Growth, Says EMBER
- On 3 september, 2025 it was reported that Outside China, all other countries together installed an estimated 124 GW in the first half of 2025. India recorded the second-highest installations with 24 GW, a 49% increase over the already strong 16 GW added in deployment in H1-2024.
- Comparing the growth with other countries, Ember in its report said, "the United States ranked third with 21 GW, up 4% year-on-year, despite recent moves by the US government to restrict clean power deployment. Deployment dipped slightly in Germany and Brazil.
- Developers rushed projects ahead of new compensation rules, fueling H1 growth. Full-year expectations suggest 2025 will surpass 2024’s record 350+ GW. Africa’s solar imports from China rose 60%, signaling emerging growth, though installation data remains unclear.
1184. Afghanistan earthquake: India sends 21 tonnes of aid to Kabul, EAM shares photo
- India airlifted 21 tonnes of humanitarian assistance to earthquake-hit Afghanistan on 2 September 2025 after a powerful Sunday night quake killed over 1,400 citizens.External Affairs Minister announced on X, "Indian earthquake assistance reaches Kabul by air."
- The consignment included a wide range of relief materials such as blankets, tents, hygiene kits, water storage tanks, generators, and essential medicines.
- Earthquake of magnitude 6.0 quake has injured over 3,000 people, with most casualties reported in Kunar province.
- India had previously extended humanitarian aid on 1 september 2025 , with the Ministry of External Affairs sharing images of trucks loaded with food supplies.
1185. Tripura: 29 MW Solar Power Generated Since 2018, Target Set for 150 MW; Consumers Rise from 7.21 Lakh to 10.38 Lakh
- On September 03, 2025 , Tripura Power Minister inaugurated a 132 kV substation at Manu in Dhalai district. The facility will benefit over 21,500 families and supports the state’s plan to expand solar power across government offices.
- The Minister highlighted Tripura’s power growth: solar capacity rose from 3 MW in 2018 to 29 MW today, with a target of 150 MW via solar panels for 50,000 houses and 10 lakh consumers over two years.
- Since 2018, consumer base rose from 7.21 lakh to 10.38 lakh; 132 kV substations increased from 12 to 20, 33 kV from 44 to 75, and underground cabling from 95 km to 571 km. The focus is on sustainable solar energy and uninterrupted supply.

1186. DRDO transfers three advanced materials technologies to industry partners
- On September 04, 2025, DRDO transferred three advanced materials technologies to industry partners at DMRL, Hyderabad. The move aims to boost indigenous capabilities in defence materials, supporting missile systems, naval vessels, and high-strength steel applications.
- DRDO Chairman Samir V Kamat handed over Licensing Agreements to partners including BHEL, JSPL, and BSP (SAIL). Technologies cover high-strength radomes, DMR-1700 steel sheets, and DMR 249A HSLA steel plates, enabling rapid industrial scaling and enhancing India’s defence self-reliance.
- An MoU was also signed with the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau for leveraging DMRL’s expertise. The technology transfer reflects DRDO’s multidisciplinary research, strengthens industry-research collaboration, and ensures innovations are deployed commercially and strategically for critical defence applications.
1187. PM Modi, Singapore PM Wong inaugurate India’s largest container terminal PSA Mumbai Phase II
- On 3 September, 2025 Prime Ministers of India and Wong virtually inaugurated Phase II of the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCT) at JNPT, Mumbai. The expansion doubles capacity to 4.8 million TEUs, making it India’s largest container terminal.
- Operated by Singapore’s PSA International, the project involved SGD 1.7 billion ($1.3 billion) investment under a public-private partnership. It features 2,000m quay, multimodal infrastructure, DFC rail connectivity, and employs over 1,500 skilled workers trained at the Gateway Terminal.
- The terminal emphasizes sustainability with renewable energy and electrification plans. India and Singapore will develop Green and Digital Shipping Corridors. The project strengthens trade, supply chain resilience, and multimodal logistics under PM Gati Shakti, advancing India’s port and digital growth ambitions.
1188. India launches National Critical Mineral Mission to boost sustainable & economic growth:
- On 2 September 2025 (ANI), Union Minister announced the launch of the National Critical Mineral Mission 2025 during CII’s 20th Global Sustainability Summit in New Delhi. The mission identifies 24 critical and 29 important minerals to safeguard India’s economic development and national security.
- The mission aims to balance economic growth and ecological sustainability, with strategies including forest conservation rule amendments, circular economy models, green manufacturing, and responsible practices.
- The initiative is significant for climate crisis mitigation, food and nutrition security, and sustainable development, as emphasized by ITC’s Sanjiv Puri. 1189. JNU, DRDO-SAG sign MoU to boost advanced research in strategic technologies
- On September 2, 2025, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and DRDO’s Scientific Analysis Group (SAG) signed a research collaboration agreement in New Delhi, presided over by Vice-Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, focusing on joint R&D, training, and academic partnerships.
- The collaboration aims to advance strategic technologies of national importance by enabling JNU researchers and students to work with DRDO scientists. 1190. India's rooftop solar capacity rises 158% in H1 2025: Report
- On 2 September, 2025 It was Reported that, In H1 2025, India’s rooftop solar capacity surged 158%, adding 2.8 GW compared to 1.1 GW in H1 2024. Q2 2025 alone saw 1.6 GW installations, marking a 33% rise over Q1 2025 and 121% growth from Q2 2024.
- The boom was driven by clearing delayed registrations, commissioning of new systems, and PM Surya Ghar portal upgrades. Residential sector dominated with 74% share, followed by industrial (19%), commercial (6%), and government (0.5%), mostly under the CAPEX model (88%).
- By June 2025, rooftop solar capacity reached 16.5 GW, with Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh leading (64%). Assam recorded fastest growth (24% CAGR). Rooftop tenders surged 232% QoQ to 1,269 MW, highlighting India’s record solar adoption momentum.
