23631. India unseats Brazil as No.1 food supplier to Arab nations after 15 years
- India surpassed Brazil in food exports to the League of Arab States for the first time in 15 years as the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted trade flows in 2020, according to data provided by the Arab-Brazil Chamber of Commerce
- Brazil accounted for 8.15% of the total agribusiness products imported by the 22 League members last year, whereas India captured 8.25% of that trade, ending Brazil's 15-year advantage, the data showed.
- The Arab world is among Brazil's most important trade partners, but its distance from those markets took its toll as the pandemic rattled global logistics.

- डीपी मंगल 2010 में फुल-टाइम नौकरी से रिटायर हुए। 62 वर्ष की आयु में, उन्होंने आंत्रप्रेन्योरशिप को आजमाने का फैसला किया। आठ साल बाद, उनकी सूत बनाने वाली कंपनी Lagnam Spintex स्टॉक एक्सचेंज में सूचीबद्ध हो गई।
- 2010 में, उन्होंने रिंग यार्न और ओपन-एंड यार्न के निर्माण के लिए एक यूनिट लगाने के लिए दिल्ली से भीलवाड़ा, राजस्थान में अपना बेस ट्रांसफर कर दिया। बिजनेस शुरू करने के लिए कुल 31 करोड़ रुपये का निवेश किया गया था, और मंगल के अनुसार, उन्होंने लगभग 30 प्रतिशत राशि का योगदान दिया, और बाकी को एक बैंक द्वारा फायनेंस किया गया।

- जैसे-जैसे उत्पादन का विस्तार हुआ, Lagnam Spintex ने 2014 में उसी यूनिट में 480 रोटार जोड़े और 2015 में अन्य 480 रोटार जोड़े। वर्तमान में, Lagnam ने 1,920 रोटार और 25,536 स्पिंडल इंस्टॉल किए हैं, जिससे हर दिन 35 टन सूत का उत्पादन होता है। 2018 में, कंपनी National Stock Exchange के SME प्लेटफॉर्म पर भी सूचीबद्ध हुई। इस साल यह NSE के मुख्य प्लेटफॉर्म पर चली गयी।

23634. IFS Officer Revives 66 Himalayan Springs to Help 1 Lakh People in 23 Villages
- Setting a benchmark in water conservation, IFS officer Dharam Singh Meena and his team have revived 66 Himalayam springs, helping 23 villages in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal
- Springs, a primary water source for villages in Uttarakhand and the Himalayan sub-continent, are vanishing resulting in loss of income and migration. The disappearance of these precious water sources is due to erratic rainfall, mainly due to climate change. The water shortage is also because of the change in land use patterns owing to rampant development. The over in the region has affected the hydrogeology of the springs.
- Dharam Singh says, “The river is fed by springs and streams along its length and merges with the Ganges at Shivpuri. Heval is one of the main rivers of the district Tehri Garhwal, providing potable water and for agricultural purposes. So, I decided to visit the villagers to hear their issues
- Dr Anvita Pandey, a scientist at CEDAR, says, “A total of 66 springs and 17 streams were identified, along the 50 km stretch of the river. The key issues documented were the decrease in discharge rate of the springs due to increase in the sediment load of the river.”
23635. 3 Indian defence manufacturers make it to top 100
- Three Indian defence manufacturers have made it to the list of top 100 global companies making arms, planes and other military equipment. The details were released on Monday morning by Swedish think-tank Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) in its report ‘Top 100 arms-producing and military services companies, 2020’.
- The sales of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (ranked 42nd) and Bharat Electronics (66th) rose by 1.5 per cent and 4 per cent, respectively, during 2020. The sales of Indian Ordnance Factories (60th) saw a marginal rise of 0.2 per cent.

23639. India Signs $679.4 Mn Kalashnikov Rifle Contract, Seeks Russian Help To Deter China
- India and Russia on December 6 in New Delhi signed an agreement on a programme extending Military Technical Cooperation for the next 10 years and also finally inked a Rs 5,124 Crore ($679.4 Million) contract for over 600,000 AK-203 assault rifles for the Indian Army.
- These were part of four agreements and protocols signed at the 20th meeting of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military & Military Technical Cooperation in New Delhi. The meeting was co-chaired by Defennce Ministers Rajnath Singh and Sergey Shoigu.

- The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has installed 931 oxygen pressure swing absorption (PSA) plants across the country during the COVID-19
- Out of the 931 plants, 103 have been established in Uttar Pradesh, 62 in Tamil Nadu, 56 in Madhya Pradesh, 49 in West Bengal and 48 in Rajasthan
- A total of 931 PSA plants have been installed by DRDO under PM Cares Fund at 869 sites during COVID-19 pandemic."
