1501. Hyderabad startup Stardour successfully test fires India’s 1st Hydrogen-Oxygen propulsion engine
- On July 28, 2025, Hyderabad-based spacetech startup Stardour announced it has successfully test-fired India’s first in-house hydrogen-oxygen propulsion engine. The test took place at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, marking a major milestone in India’s sustainable space propulsion capabilities.
- The eco-friendly engine will power Stardour’s upcoming orbital transfer vehicle (OTV) named Lucas, designed to operate in LEO, GEO, and deep-space missions to the Moon and Mars. OTVs serve as space tugs that reposition satellites, perform refuelling, spacecraft repair, life extension, and debris removal essential for the future of in-space logistics.
- Founded in 2020 by Sankarsh Chanda and led by ex-ISRO scientist Rama Rao, Stardour is working on green propulsion and reusable spacecraft. The success was praised by IISc professor Pratikash Panda as a breakthrough in sustainable space innovation, positioning India as a leader in autonomous in-orbit mobility and eco-friendly propulsion technologies.
1502. Punjab: To boost tourism: ₹25cr heritage project approved for Hussainiwala
- On July 28, 2025, The Punjab government and Union Ministry of Tourism approved a ₹25 crore project to develop Hussainiwala, a historic border town in Ferozepur, to boost heritage tourism.
- Tourism Infrastructure Boost Plans include improving access roads, lighting, landscaping and visitor facilities around the national memorial dedicated to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.
- The project aims to honor freedom fighters and attract more visitors by enhancing the memorial’s visibility and preserving its historical importance.

1503. Make In India Push: Indian Railways Exports Surge To Australia, UK, France And Beyond
- Railways Minister said on 27 July, 2025, that Indian Railways is rapidly emerging as a major exporter of bogies, coaches, locomotives, and propulsion systems under the "Make in India, Make for the World" Vision. The minister visited Alstom's Savli facility in Vadodara, which is a key manufacturing hub for railway rolling stock in India.
- Since 2016, India has successfully exported 1,002 rail cars for various international projects, reinforcing the country’s position as a trusted supplier of modern rail systems. As many as 450 rail cars were manufactured at Savli and exported to Australia for the Queensland Metro project.
- The Savli unit has also successfully exported over 3,800 bogies to countries including Germany, Egypt, Sweden, Australia, and Brazil, along with more than 4,000 flatpacks (modules) supplied to Austria. The Maneja unit has made a significant contribution by exporting over 5,000 propulsion systems to various global projects.
- Speaking to the media, the Union Minister stated that the impact of the "Make in India and Make for the World" initiatives is clearly visible in the Indian Railways manufacturing sector.
1504. India successfully test-fires its first quasi-ballistic Pralay missile from Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast
- India successfully test-fired its indigenous short-range ballistic missile ‘Pralay’ from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast on 28 July, 2025.
- Developed by the DRDO, Pralay is a state-of-the-art quasi-ballistic, surface-to-surface missile engineered for high-precision strikes in conventional battlefield scenarios. It has a strike range between 150 and 500 kilometres and is designed specifically to defeat missile interceptor systems.
- The missile carries a conventional warhead weighing between 350 and 700 kilograms and is designed to strike command centres, logistics hubs, and enemy airbases with high accuracy.
- The Pralay missile is seen as a major boost for India's short-range conventional strike capabilities, particularly in high-stakes border scenarios. It is intended to equip both the Indian Army and Air Force with greater tactical flexibility during rapid military escalations.
1505. Bihar Unveils Renewable Energy Policies, Signs Major MoUs Worth Over ₹5,300 Crore
- On July 28, 2025, Bihar launched new renewable energy policies and signed MOUs with Solar Energy Corporation of India and Larsen & Toubro worth over ₹5,300 crore to promote clean energy initiatives across the state.
- The agreements target solar energy, biomass, energy storage and green hydrogen with the goal of boosting local employment, infrastructure and sustainable energy access.
- The state is offering policy incentives and streamlined processes to attract investors and accelerate renewable energy adoption.
1506. PM Modi launches 'Gyan Bharatam Mission' for digitisation of ancient manuscripts
- On July 27, 2025, Prime Minister launched the 'Gyan Bharatam Mission' during the 124th episode of Mann Ki Baat, aiming to digitize over one crore ancient Indian manuscripts to create a National Digital Repository, making India’s knowledge tradition accessible globally.
- Announced in the Union Budget on June 9, 2025, the mission, with funding increased from ₹3.5 crore to ₹60 crore, seeks to preserve India’s intellectual heritage, with Modi calling the manuscripts “chapters of India’s soul” vital for future generations.
- The initiative, building on the National Mission for Manuscripts, involves collaboration with institutions like IGNCA and encourages private manuscript holders to contribute, while also promoting research in fields like Ayurveda, mathematics, and philosophy.
1507. PM Modi launches development projects worth over ₹4800 crore in Tamil Nadu
- On July 27, 2025, Prime Minister launched development projects worth over ₹4,800 crore in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, covering airports, highways, ports, railways, and clean energy to enhance connectivity, economic growth, and quality of life in southern Tamil Nadu.
- Key projects include a ₹450 crore Thoothukudi Airport terminal upgrade, two highway projects (₹2,350 crore Sethiyathope–Cholapuram NH-36 and ₹200 crore Thoothukudi Port Road), a ₹285 crore port berth, three railway upgrades including Madurai–Bodinayakkanur electrification, and a ₹550 crore Kudankulam power transmission system.
- PM highlighted Tamil Nadu’s progress under schemes like PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with one lakh applications and 40,000 solar installations, and the India-UK FTA, boosting MSMEs and fisheries, while paying tribute to Tamil Nadu’s cultural icons.
1508. Railway infrastructure development plan for 5 stations in Nashik district
- On July 27, 2025, Railway Minister approved a ₹1,011 crore plan to upgrade five Central Railway stations Nashik Road, Devlali, Odha, Kasbe Sukene, and Kherwadi—in Nashik district to manage pilgrim influx during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela and enhance year-round infrastructure.
- The plan includes new platforms, extended platform lengths for 22–24-coach trains, stabilizing and pit lines for train parking and maintenance, wider foot overbridges, and ‘mela towers’ with CCTVs and control rooms, with 50% of the work already underway and land acquisition set for January 2026.
- Specific upgrades include three new platforms at Devlali, extended platforms at Nashik Road, five stabilizing lines at Odha, and new platforms at Kasbe Sukene and Kherwadi, aimed at supporting both pilgrimage and agricultural transport needs.
1509. Centre approves four Day Care Cancer Centres in Nagaland
- On July 26, 2025, the Union government approved four Day Care Cancer Centres (DCCCs) in Nagaland’s Phek, Wokha, Mon, and Tuensang districts as part of a national initiative to establish 297 new DCCCs in 2025–26, aimed at decentralising chemotherapy access, according to a PIB report.
- Each DCCC, costing up to ₹1.49 crore and funded under the National Health Mission, will be set up in district hospitals or other government health facilities, prioritized based on ICMR cancer registry data and state proposals.
- The initiative aligns with the Union Budget 2025–26 plan to establish DCCCs in all district hospitals within three years, complementing 19 State Cancer Institutes and 20 Tertiary Care Cancer Centres already operational nationwide.

1510. Punjab: PSERC approves PSPCL’s ₹123 crore rooftop solar plan
- On July 26, 2025, In Punjab,the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved a rooftop solar installation plan proposed by the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, with an estimated capital expenditure of ₹123.3 crore.
- PSPCL had initially sought approval for ₹160 crore, which included ₹32.64 crore in administrative charges. PSERC disallowed the administrative cost, stating it overlapped with PSPCL’s regular business operations and would result in duplicate recovery from consumers. Only the actual capital cost of ₹123.3 crore has been approved.
- The solar systems are projected to generate 46.74 million units of solar electricity annually. During the loan repayment period of 15 years, the cost of generation will be ₹3.26 per unit.
