2641. DoNER Ministry teams up with Amazon to boost bamboo trade
- On February 10, 2025, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) announced a collaboration with Amazon and two other companies to explore market opportunities for bamboo in domestic and international markets. This initiative aims to boost the bamboo trade, support self-help groups (SHGs), and promote value-added bamboo products.
- Union Minister highlighted that 38% of India’s bamboo production comes from the Northeast, making it a key resource for industries like furniture manufacturing. He stated that Tripura and Nagaland would serve as pilot states for end-to-end bamboo processing, with plans for expanding exports to Bangladesh, Thailand, and Myanmar. DoNER Secretary emphasized that the government is focused on enhancing product quality, facilitating aggregation for farmers, and ensuring access to international markets.
- The ministry’s partnership with Amazon and other firms will enable Northeast-based SHGs to design and market world-class bamboo products, including furniture and boards. The initiative seeks to capture the domestic market first, followed by international expansion, with a vision to position Indian bamboo products as a competitive export commodity.

2645. Snow Biking in Sonamarg Gets Official Nod
- On February 9, 2025, the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) officially approved snow bike operations in designated zones, marking a significant boost to winter tourism in the region. This initiative is expected to attract adventure enthusiasts and contribute to the local economy.
- The SDA has introduced strict regulations for snow bike operations, requiring operators to complete a registration process and pay a ₹75,000 fee per bike. The permission is valid for the current winter season, based on snowfall conditions, and is renewable for future seasons. To ensure safety and environmental sustainability, only physically and mentally fit individuals are permitted to operate snow bikes, and technical staff must be present during operations. The use of polythene is strictly prohibited, and all bikes must be fitted with pollution control safeguard kits.
- The operations will be closely monitored by the SDA and local tourist police, ensuring compliance with approved routes and safety measures. Each snow bike must display its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) clearly, and violators operating without valid registration will face fines and legal action. While over 50 individuals have already received permits, the final selection of designated areas is still pending. The Department of Wildlife has clarified that snow biking will not be permitted in wildlife zones, warning of strict legal action against violators. The SDA reserves the right to revoke permissions at any time.

2646. NIT To Setup Drone Pilot Training Centre
- On February 8, 2025, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, in collaboration with NIELIT, announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art Drone Pilot Training Centre. The initiative was revealed during the Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Program (ESDP), which concluded at NIT Srinagar.
- The six-week training program on drone technology was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, NIT Srinagar, in partnership with MSME PPDC Sanath Nagar and NIELIT Srinagar, and sponsored by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India. The event was attended by 25 participants from Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh.
- The initiative includes a six-month collaborative certificate course jointly run by NIT Srinagar and NIELIT, with faculty members and scientists working together to advance UAV technology research in Kashmir. Dr. Rajendran, a faculty member, has obtained a DGCA license to fly drones up to 25 kg and is undergoing RPTO Trainer license training to further enhance expertise in the field. The program has also witnessed increased participation from women, reflecting a growing interest in drone technology among female students.

2647. ISRO Successfully Tests Indigenous Cryogenic Engine For Gaganyaan Mission
- ISRO on February 8, 2025, said that it has successfully carried out the ignition trial of the indigenous CE20 cryogenic engine powering the upper stage of LVM3, with a Multi-element igniter under vacuum conditions, which simulates the engine ignition in the vacuum condition of space.
- This test was carried out on Friday in the High Altitude Test Facility at ISRO Propulsion Complex, Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu, ISRO said in a statement. This engine is crucial for the Gaganyaan mission, India’s ambitious crewed space mission.

2650. Tripura CM launches 'Skill Uday Tongai' programme to empower 80,000 students
- On February 8, 2025, Tripura Chief Minister launched the ‘Skill Uday Tongai’ skill development training programme at the Tripura Institute of Technology, Narsingarh, Agartala, aimed at empowering 80,000 school and college students.
