23791. India, 'Pharmacy Of The World', Starts COVID Vaccine Shipments To Neighbours
- India authorised two vaccines this month for emergency use at home, one licensed from Oxford University and AstraZeneca and another developed at home by Bharat Biotech in partnership with the state-run Indian Council of Medical Research.
- Bangladesh and Nepal said they expected deliveries on Thursday. The only neighbour absent from India's list apart from China, is regional rival Pakistan, which had not requested assistance, according to an Indian government official.
- Many low and middle-income countries are relying on India, the world's biggest vaccine maker, for supplies to start COVID-19 immunisation programmes and bring an end to their outbreaks.

23793. Coronavirus | India begins COVID-19 vaccine shipment for six countries

- India on began the delivery of COVID-19 vaccines to six “neighbouring and key partner countries”
- The delivery began with two special flights carrying the first consignments of Covishield to the Maldives and Bhutan. Sources said Bangladesh and Nepal will receive two large consignments of the same vaccine on Thursday followed by supplies to Myanmar and Seychelles.
23794. ISA to help member nations power vaccine storage facilities
- The alliance is aiming to supply 24x7 electricity to 500 hospitals across 47 of the least developed countries
- The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is working on making around 500 hospitals across 47 of the least developed (LDC) and small island developing member countries run on electricity generated from the Sun.
- The initiative may help provide a shot in the arm for India’s “vaccine diplomacy". Having 24x7 electricity supply is important for powering cold storages that will store the coronavirus vaccine, running computers for inventory management, and respirators in the remote areas of these countries, said ISA director general Upendra Tripathy.
23795. India will make Covid vaccine accessible to ‘closest friends’, Shringla says in Nepal
- Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said on Wednesday, underlining the need for greater cooperation at the bilateral, regional and global level to combat the health crisis.
- Shringla was speaking after handing over 2,000 vials of anti-virus drug Remdesivir to Nepal’s Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali as part of India’s continuing assistance to the Himalayan nation to help it contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
- India is today the largest producer of vaccine in the world. We have tied up with many of the major vaccine manufacturers whether it is Astrazeneca, whether it is companies in the US, whether it is Sputnik5 from Russia.

- 2020 में अपने पिता को कोविड -19 में खोने के बावजूद हार नहीं मानी और दिहाड़ी मजबूरी करते हुए क्रिकेटर बनने की जिद और जुनून से नई इबारत लिख डाली। अपने संघर्ष के बारे में वह बताते हैं- मैं ईंटें सेंकता था और उन्हें एक हाथ से खींचने वाली गाड़ी में ले जाता था। मैं बचपन से मजदूरी का काम करता हूं। हमारे परिवार की आय घर का खर्चा चलाने के लिए पर्याप्त नहीं थी।
- पर्याप्त संसाधनों के अभाव में मैं अपने पिता को नहीं बचा सका। वह पहले से ही एक कैंसर रोगी थे और महामारी की पहली लहर के दौरान कोरोनो वायरस संक्रमण के कारण उनकी मृत्यु हो गई। 2018 में अपने गांव के पास मेपल्स अकादमी में खेलना शुरू किया। सारा खर्च मेरे कोच सनी सिंह ने वहन किया। उन्होंने आगे कहा- मैं जहां भी मैच खेलने जाता हूं, वह सारा खर्च उठाते हैं।
23797. भारत ने नेपाल को दिए और 28 वेंटिलेटर
- कोरोनावायरस महामारी के खिलाफ हिमालयी राष्ट्र की लड़ाई में अपना समर्थन देते हुए भारत सरकार ने रविवार को नेपाल को 28 और वेंटिलेटर दिए हैं।
- भारतीय दूतावास ने कहा कि नेपाल में भारतीय राजदूत विनय मोहन क्वात्रा ने अपने कार्यालय में नेपाल के स्वास्थ्य और जनसंख्या मंत्री भानु भक्त ढकाल को आईसीयू वेंटिलेटर सौंपे हैं।
- दूतावास ने कहा, नेपाल को कोरोनावायरस महामारी संबंधित सहायता में 15 सितंबर को रेमेडिसविर शीशियां, 9 अगस्त को आईसीयू वेंटिलेटर, 17 मई को कोरोना परीक्षण किट (आरटी-पीसीआर), 22 अप्रैल को पेरासिटामोल और हाइड्रॉक्सीक्लोरोक्वीन जैसी आवश्यक दवाएं दी गई थीं।
23798. India sends aid to four African countries to deal with COVID-19 crisis
- The Indian government is sending food aid to four central African countries of Sudan, South Sudan, Djibouti and Eritrea. The 270 MT aid is to help these countries deal with the COVID-19 pandemic and also natural calamities.
- The Ministry of External Affairs release said, "Strong bonds of friendship and brotherly relations between India and countries in Africa have been forged and strengthened over several centuries."
- They added, "India has always stood in solidarity with the countries and people in Africa and has partnered in undertaking development, capacity building and humanitarian assistance programmes." The aid is being transported on an Indian Naval Ship Airvat which left Mumbai on October 24 and it will make port calls at Djibouti, Massawa, Port Sudan and Mombasa. 23799. India donates 1.8 million N95 masks to Philadelphia city in US
- India has donated 1.8 million N95 masks to Philadelphia, the largest city in the US state of Pennsylvania, to help in its fight against COVID-19, setting another example of a robust Indo-US partnership in the health sector.
- Philadelphia is the sixth-most populous US city. The move is also an indication of India''s capabilities in manufacturing Personal protective equipment (PPE) not only for domestic use, but also exports, officials said.

23800. India, Myanmar Agree To Target Operationalisation of Strategic Sittwe Port in Q1 2021
- Indian army chief General M.M. Naravane and foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla called on State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and Myanmar’s Commander in Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
- India had even signed an agreement with Myanmar government for operationalising the port in October 2018. However, conflict between the insurgent group Arakan Army and the Myanmar military had impacted the operationalisation. According to a local NGO, more than 226,000 people have been displaced inside the province due to the violence.
- One of the key aspects was the construction of an integrated port and Inland Waterway Transport terminal at Sittwe, which was completed in 2018 at a cost of Rs 517.29 crore.
