21701. ReNew Power commissions Gujarat’s first wind-solar hybrid project
- ReNew Power has commissioned Gujarat’s first wind-solar hybrid project of 17.6 MW at the Chlor-Alkali unit of Grasim Industries Ltd in Vilayat, Bharuch.
- The first phase of the hybrid project, with 17.6 MW commercial-scale wind-solar, commenced operations last week and is expected to generate 80 million units of renewable energy every year, mitigating 75,000 tCO2e (carbon emissions) annually, the company said in a statement.
- The partnership will expand further with an additional 16.68 MW, which will be commissioned in the next financial year (FY23), as part of the second phase.
21702. Patna To Guwahati, Via Bengal And Bangladesh: How Modi Sarkar Intends To Unlock NE India’s Potential By Developing Waterways
- Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal recently flagged off a cargo ship carrying foodgrains from Patna that will make its way through Bengal and Bangladesh to reach Guwahati’s Pandu port.
- The ship will take an estimated 25 days to travel this distance of 2,350 kilometers.
- As part of its policy to develop waterways for cheaper and ‘greener’ movement of cargo and passengers, the Modi government has been focusing on using rivers to unlock development opportunities for the landlocked Northeast region of the country.
- The ship will take an estimated 25 days to travel this distance (between Patna and Pandu) of 2,350 kilometers. Transporting cargo from Bihar to Assam through this waterway route will cost about 25 per cent less than the overland road route. Apart from being cheaper, waterways also present a ‘greener’ option since river vessels are much less polluting than trucks.

21703. Japan’s Infrastructure Investment in Northeast India
- Japan has invested around $2 billion in improving infrastructure in India’s Northeast, which Tokyo sees as a crucial part of its own Free and Open Indo-Pacific Vision.
- Northeast India has become a major part of Japan’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific Vision. Japan is now a major player in the infrastructure sector in Northeast India.
- Among other projects, Japan is involved in the Guwahati Water Supply Project, the Guwahati Sewage Project (Assam), the North-East Road Network Connectivity Improvement Project (Assam-Meghalaya), the Project for Renovation and Modernization of the Umiam-Umtru Stage III Hydroelectric Power Station (Meghalaya), the Sustainable Catchment Forest Management Project (Tripura), the Project on Capacity Enhancement for Sustainable Agriculture and Irrigation Development (Mizoram), a forest management project in Nagaland, and the construction of primary schools in Manipur. Total ODA from Japan to Northeast India stood at over 231 billion yen (approximately $2 billion) as of January 2021.

21704. SECI tenders 25 kW green hydrogen project for a hospital in Ladakh
- The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has invited bids to set up a 25 kW green hydrogen-based pilot project at Sonam Norboo Memorial (SNM) Hospital in the Leh district of the Union Territory of Ladakh. The selected developer will be required to set up the project at the SNM hospital on a “build-own-operate” basis, for the supply of electricity, heat, and oxygen to the hospital.
- The hospital shall sign a 15-year supply agreement (SA) with the successful bidder for the procurement of electricity, heat, and oxygen.The scope of work includes design, supply, testing, commissioning of green hydrogen-based complete power-to-power cycle system along with metering arrangement for supply of electricity and heat,” as per the tender document.
- The hydrogen production, compression, and storage components of the project shall be installed at the premises of the SECI’s 20 MW(AC) solar project with a 20 MW/40 MWh battery energy storage system in Taru village of Leh. The combined heat and power (CHP) fuel cell or gas engine and associated system shall be installed at the SNM Hospital.
21705. JSCL signs pact for development of Apsara Road ‘High Street’
- Aiming to develop street, walk ability experience and connectivity for citizens, the Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) on Monday signed an agreement for the development of Apsara Road ‘High Street’ Gole market area along with the adjoining roads under Smart City programme of Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
- The development project of worth Rs 50 crores will enhance the aesthetics of the road and improve the social as well as economic condition of the community around it.
- Under the project the total road length measuring 13.64 kilometres will be developed with facilities like street lighting, pedestrian lighting, footpath, parking, water ATMs, seating, underground utility duct, road parking, sculpture, water feature and softscape.
- The agreement was signed and exchanged between Chief Executive Officer (CEO), JSCL, AvnyLavasa and representative of M/S Hassan Road Construction Private Limited. Additional CEO of JSCL, Hitesh Gupta and other senior officials of the JSCL.
21706. LG lays foundation stone for Jhelum riverfront development
- We are working on this much-awaited transformation by improving urban services, creation of urban infrastructure and improved system of urban governance to make the cities ecologically sustainable, economically productive and socially equitable, added the Lt Governor. “I believe through physical and economic regeneration of our cities & its infrastructure we can provide citizens an attractive environment to live & work and fulfill the needs of businesses”, the Lt Governor observed.
- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today laid the foundation stone for Jhelum Riverfront development to be developed on the lines of Sabarmati riverfront. Costing Rs 75 Crores, the riverfront project is being implemented by Jal Shakti Department under the Srinagar Smart City project. The phase-1 is envisaged with modern public utilities and state-of-the-art green space.
- The Lt Governor also laid foundation stone for redevelopment of Polo View Road as pedestrian walkway at a cost of Rs 5.3 Crores to provide better ambience and shopping experience to the citizens. The Lt Governor said that a systematic effort to improve our cities in J&K UT has been long overdue.
21707. Received proposal for ropeways from Arunachal govt: MoRTH
- The ministry of road transport & highways (MoRTH) said that a proposal has been received from the Arunachal Pradesh government for developing ropeways in the state.
- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while presenting the union budget for 2022-23 announced that contracts for eight ropeway projects for a length of 60 kms would be awarded in 2022-23. “The scheme is being presently started in regions like Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Jammu & Kashmir and the other northeastern states,” the ministry said in a release on Monday.
- Sitharaman announced that the national ropeways development programme, dubbed ‘Parvatmala’, will be taken up on the PPP mode, “which will be a preferred ecologically sustainable alternative in place of conventional roads in difficult hilly areas,” the ministry said. “The idea is to improve connectivity and convenience for commuters, besides promoting tourism,” it said.
- “Developing an efficient transport network is a big challenge in hilly areas. The rail and air transport networks are limited in these areas, while the development of road network has technical challenges.

21708. Dream11 in talks to raise $50 million in fresh fundraising round
- Fantasy sports unicorn Dream11, which has bagged the title sponsorship rights for the 2020 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), is reportedly in talks with various private equity (PE) and venture capital (VC) firms to raise $50 million (Rs 375 crore), as per its communication to its investors.
- On August 18, Dream11 emerged as the highest bidder for IPL 2020 title sponsorship with a bid of Rs 222 crore. The company outbid online education platforms Byju's and Unacademy to emerge on top, which submitted a bid of Rs 201 crore and Rs 170 crore, respectively.
- Dream11 will pay BCCI Rs 222 crore for the rights, which is nearly half the amount (440 crore) that Chinese smartphone maker Vivo was paying.
21709. Govt eyes Rs 65,000 crore investment in over 200 economic zones
- The government has prepared a plan to attract investment of nearly Rs 65,000 crore in more than 200 economic zones in the next five years, according to a proposal made under the National Master Plan for providing multi-modal connectivity to various economic zones.
- The road, railways, shipping and civil aviation ministries have prepared a detailed connectivity roadmap for these economic zones such as food and agro zones, fishing and defence clusters, electronic, textile and pharmaceutical parks.
- Three big industrial areas at Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Tumkur in Karnataka and Dadri in Uttar Pradesh have been identified under this plan as well.
21710. Nesco plans over Rs 2,000 cr investment on business expansion in 5-7 years
- Diversified firm Nesco has said it is planning to invest over Rs 2,000 crore in the next five to seven years to foray into the hospitality segment as well as expand its existing IT space offerings and add new exhibition centres.
- The company, which is into real estate, exhibition centre, food and beverages (F&B) and engineering businesses, is also planning to set up a convention hall at its Nesco Centre in Goregaon in suburban Mumbai.
- "We have two operational IT buildings and we are in the process of getting the approvals for the third one and plan to start the construction by 2021. The estimated budget for the project is Rs 1,800 crore for total 46 lakh sq ft of development, which will include office space, amenities, F&B area as well a 300 room four-star business hotel," company''s chairman Sumant Patel told PTI.
