2632. Mars Orbiter Mission successfully enters Red Planet orbit
- On September 24, 2014, India made history by becoming the first country in the world to enter the Martian orbit in its maiden attempt. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully inserted the Mars Orbiter into the red planet's orbit.
- "The spacecraft (Orbiter) was successfully inserted into the Martian orbit at 515 km away from the red planet's surface and 215 million km away from the earth in radio distance," a senior space official said.
- In this November 27, 2013, file photo, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) scientists and engineers monitor the movements of India's Mars orbiter at their Spacecraft Control Center in the southern Indian city of Bangalore.

2633. Countdown begins for PSLV-C45 mission with many a firsts for ISRO
- On 31 march 2019 PSLV-C45 mission was the 47th flight of India's PSLV program and launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR in Sriharikota.
- The PSLV-C45 was also the first mission for the PSLV-QL, a new variant of the PSLV with four strap-on motors.
- The four-stage PSLV-C45 will blast off from the second launch pad at the spaceport of Sriharikota, about 125 kms

2634. India Joins Rank of Countries With Space Observatory; ASTROSAT in Orbit
- The ASTROSAT, the Indian Space Research Organisation's multi-wavelength space observatory, has been successfully placed in orbit - 22 minutes and 32 seconds after the PSLV-C30 lifted off from the first launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre
- Along the way, the PSLV-C30 mission has also enabled the space agency to cross the half century mark in the number of foreign satellites it has launched. Six satellites, four from the US, one from Indonesia and one from Canada, had piggybacked alongside the Rs 178 crore ASTROSAT.
- ASTROSAT's instrumentation is designed to sweep the universe across the ultraviolet and X-ray wavelengths. Its mission brief will be to study the mysterious workings of black holes, neutron stars, quasars, white dwarfs and pulsars

2635. ISRO successfully test launches India's first-ever indigenous space shuttle
- On May 23, 2015, The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully test launched the first 'Made in India' space shuttle — called the Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV) — early on Monday morning from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
- The test launch is considered a significant step in India's space endeavour. It's especially important because in 2011, the U.S.'s Nasa abandoned its resuable space shuttle project
- The test launch of the 6.5 metre long and 1.75 ton reusable launch vehicle (RLV-TD) occurred at 7 am on Monday from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre."Mission accomplished successfully," ISRO said after the launch.

2636. ISRO Sets Historic World Record, Launches 104 Satellites In One Go
- On February 15, 2017, ISRO, or Indian Space Research Organisation, created history when it launched 104 satellites on the PSLV-C37 rocket from Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota spaceport today. The countdown for the launch had begun 28 hours before the scheduled launched.
- This is the highest number of satellites ever launched in a single mission. With this feat, India broke the previous record when Russia sent 37 satellites in 2014. ISRO, interestingly, launched 67 more satellites today than Russia did in their single mission.
- 103 nano satellites were subsequently injected within a time span of 28 minutes. Most of the 103 satellites belonged to international countries - Kazakhstan, United Arab Emirates, Israel, Netherlands among others. Ninety-six of these satellites, however, belonged to the United States.

2637. ISRO Launches Its 100th Satellite, Cartosat-2 With 30 Others, in One go on PSLV-C40 From Sriharikota
- The Indian Space Research Organisation on 12 January 2018 launched its 100th satellite along with 30 other spacecraft including weather observation Cartosat 2 series onboard the Polar rocket in a single mission.
- The co-passenger satellites consist of one micro and nano satellite each from India with three micro and 25 nanosatellites from six countries — Canada, Finland, France, Korea, the United Kingdom and United States of America. The total weight of all the 31 satellites carried on board PSLV-C40 is about 1,323 kg.
- The 28 International customer satellites have been launched as part of the commercial arrangements between Antrix Corporation Limited (Antrix), a Government of India company under Department of Space (DOS), the commercial arm of ISRO and the International customers, said ISRO.

2638. ‘First significant’ results from payload onboard maiden solar mission Aditya-L1
- On September 2, 2023, Aditya-L1, India's own solar observation mission, has achieved a milestone in solar research. On July 16,2024 it captured the exact onset of a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) by using the Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC).
- “Using the unique data obtained with the VELC onboard ADITYA-L1 we were able to precisely estimate the onset time of a coronal mass ejection (CME) that erupted from the Sun on July 16, 2023.
- The coronagraph was designed and built by the IIA in collaboration with the ISRO to help researchers understand the solar corona and provide data for space weather studies.

2639. AstroSat aids astronomers discover UV nova eruptions in Andromeda galaxy 2.5 million light years away
- On December 6, 2024, In a first, astronomers from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) captured unprecedented ultraviolet images of nova eruptions in the Andromeda galaxy, revealing the dramatic life cycles of interacting binary star systems.
- Novae are a special class of transient astronomical event that causes the sudden appearance of a bright, apparently new star that slowly fades over weeks or months during their outburst.
- Using the Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) onboard the AstroSat satellite, the research team detected UV emissions from 42 novae, with four of these stellar explosions caught in the act of outburst
- Novae occur in binary star systems where a white dwarf—an Earth-sized but incredibly hot star—pulls matter from a companion star. As material accumulates on the white dwarf's surface, extreme temperatures and pressures build up, eventually triggering a massive thermonuclear explosion that can brighten the system by several orders of magnitude.
