- Indian Remote Sensing Satellite, IRS-P4 (OCEANSAT), launched by Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C2) along with Korean KITSAT-3 and German DLR- TUBSAT from Sriharikota.
- The IRS-P4 was the eighth satellite in ISRO's Indian Remote Sensing Programme (IRS) series and the first satellite primarily built for ocean applications.

2622. Assam farmer generates annual income in lakhs through strawberry farming in Baksa
- On February 16, 2025, Khogen Boro, a farmer from Banbari village in Baksa district, has gained recognition for successfully cultivating strawberries and generating an annual income in lakhs. Boro has been engaged in strawberry farming for the past five years, demonstrating the profitability of alternative crops in Assam.
- This season, Boro has planted 3,000 strawberry saplings, selling the fruit at ₹400 per kg. His strawberries are not only sold locally in Baksa but also exported to towns like Pathsala, Rangia, and Nalbari, increasing his market reach and profitability.

2623. Assam Cabinet Approves Solar Park in Karbi Anglong, Strengthens Renewable Energy Push
- On February 16, 2025, the Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister approved the construction of a solar park in Karbi Anglong, marking a significant step toward renewable energy adoption and reducing reliance on traditional power sources. 2624. Sanitary pad vending machines installed in Leh
- On February 16 2025, wife of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, inaugurated sanitary pad vending machines at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat, Civil Secretariat, and KBR Airport, Leh. The initiative aims to improve menstrual hygiene, ensure easy access to sanitary products, and reduce the stigma associated with menstruation.
- Sakhi, a self-help group (SHG) from Martselang, has developed eco-friendly sanitary pads under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM). Neelam Mishra commended their efforts and emphasized the need to promote biodegradable sanitary pads across Ladakh. The project aligns with sustainable development goals, focusing on both women's health and environmental conservation.
- Administrative Secretary of Social and Tribal Welfare, Shashanka Ala, and Secretary of School/Higher Education, Bhanu Prabha, highlighted the importance of menstrual health awareness and the challenges faced by working women due to lack of access to hygiene facilities. If successful, biodegradable sanitary pad vending machines will be expanded to more locations across Ladakh to benefit schoolgirls and working women.

2625. PSLV’s first success: a launch that changed Bharat's space future
- On 29 September 1997, Bharat successfully carried out the first operational launch of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
- his launch, called PSLV-C1, placed the IRS-1D satellite into a polar sun-synchronous orbit. The satellite later used its own system to adjust its position in space.

- ON OCTOBER 15 this year, India finally joined the power pantheon in outer space: the successful launch of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-D2) from Sriharikota on India's eastern coast placed in a polar sun-synchronous orbit a 870-kg remote sensing satellite, the IRS-P2.
- According to K Kasturirangan, chairperson of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), "The PSLV is the most complex technological project ISRO has attempted so far."

2628. How cosmonaut Rakesh Sharma took Mahatma Gandhi to space 40 years ago
- On April 3, 1984, Soviet Union and India collaborated on a manned space mission that involved the launch of the Soyuz T-11 spacecraft and the docking of the crew with the Salyut 7 Orbital Station.
- The crew included Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, an Indian Air Force pilot, and two Soviet cosmonauts.
- The mission lasted 7 days, 21 hours, and 40 minutes. During his time in space, Sharma conducted experiments in life sciences and materials processing, and observed the Earth, focusing on India.

2629. How an Apple saved Isro away from long-term dependence
- on June 19, 1981, Isro successfully launched its first communication satellite, Ariane Passenger PayLoad Experiment (Apple), on Ariane-1 from Kourou, French Guiana.
- This was a major milestone in India's space programme as Apple was used for several communication experiments, including relay of television programmes and radio networking. Incidentally, this satellite was transported on a bullock cart, captured for posterity in an unforgettable photograph.
- It had only been six years since Aryabhatta, Isro's first satellite, and the agency was still in its infancy much like the country's infrastructure. Isro had been trying launch technology through its SLV class of launchers and the Satellite Telecommunication Experiments Project had been launched.

- On July 18, 1980 Rohini Satellite became the first satellite to be placed in orbit by an Indian-made launch vehicle.
- ccording to ISRO, RS-1 was an experimental spin-stabilized satellite weighing 35 kg and capable of carrying 16 W of power. It was launched successfully onto SLV-3 from SHAR Centre into an inclination of 44.7° and an orbit of 305 x 919 kilometres.
