23541. Confident to get more COVID-19 vaccine doses from India, says Nepal envoy
- Nepal is very grateful to the Indian government for gifting 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, the country's envoy Nilamber Acharya said , adding that the Himalayan nation is "confident" of getting more doses of the vaccine.
- Nepal with a population of nearly 30 million has turned out to India for help to procure vaccines as it plans to inoculate nearly 75 per cent of its population.The Government of Nepal, on January 15, approved the use of Covishield developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) for emergency use.
- In the first phase of its inoculation drive, the Nepal government has planned to vaccinate a total of 450,000 frontline workers of various fields with two doses of Covishield vaccine to each.

23542. Vaccine Maitri: South Africa receives 1st consignment of Made-in-India Covid-19 vaccine
- Ramaphosa also said that a further nine million doses would come from Johnson and Johnson, which has contracted Aspen, one of the major pharmaceutical companies in South Africa, to manufacture these vaccines in the country.
- “In addition to the one million Covishield doses we received today, we expect another 500,000 doses from the Serum Institute of India to arrive later in February,” he said. “We have secured 12 million doses in total from the global COVAX facility, which has indicated that it will release approximately two million doses by March.

23543. Maldives' foreign minister receives made in India vaccine
- India has supplied to the Maldives 100,000 doses of CoviShield (Oxford-Astra Zeneca vaccine) manufactured by Pune-based Serum Institute of India.

23544. Kuwait, Oman get Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccines produced in India
- Kuwait's Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that 200,000 doses of the vaccine manufactured at the Serum Institute of India (SII) arrived in the country at dawn.
- On Sunday, Oman received 100,000 doses of the Oxford Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine from India.
- In a press statement carried by the Kuwait News Agency, assistant undersecretary at Kuwait’s drug and food control affairs Dr. Abdullah Al-Bader has said that the ministry is closely monitoring international developments concerning the vaccines, adding that the department would cooperate with various producing companies to get the jabs after ensuring their safety and efficacy.

- An EU jab shortage will put pressure on India to make up the difference
- The EU has told the UK that if AstraZeneca cannot supply the contracted number of doses from its plants in Europe, it is duty bound to meet the shortfall from its manufacturing facilities in Britain.
- WHO chief Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said “vaccine nationalism” could lead to a “protracted recovery”. - Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov has indicated that India may be the first foreign buyer of its most advanced S-500 ‘Prometei’ anti-aircraft missile system.
- The S-500 ‘Prometei’ anti-aircraft missile system is the most advanced Russian mobile service to air system and was put into service earlier this year. In 2019, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed interest in buying the S-500 units.

- Indian conglomerate Tata Group plans to reclaim ground in the beauty business it exited 23 years ago, with the local market for cosmetics forecast to be worth $20 billion by 2025.
