23531. Coronavirus | India gifts 56 lakh vaccine doses, 100 lakh doses as commercial supplies, says MEA
- Srivastava said external supplies of vaccines are an ongoing process, depending on availability and domestic requirements.
- India provided 56 lakh doses of coronavirus vaccines under grants assistance to a number of countries while 100 lakh doses were sent under commercial supplies, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
- MEA Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said Indian vaccines are scheduled to reach the Caribbean countries, Pacific Island states, Nicaragua, Afghanistan and Mongolia, in the coming weeks.

23532. Serum Institute Of India Delays Vaccines For Private Sale In Bangladesh
- Beximco's chief operating officer told Reuters last month the company could buy up to 3 million doses of the vaccine from SII at about $8 each for sale on the private market.
- The Bangladeshi company received 5 million of the 30 million doses it had ordered from SII for Bangladesh's immunisation programme that begins next week.
- "However, the company has now been informed by SII that the first instalment (500,000 doses) of this supply will be delayed following a prioritisation on supplying vaccine doses for government mass vaccination programmes and WHO-led COVAX initiatives over private pay use," Beximco said in a regulatory filing.

- India will provide humanitarian assistance to Myanmar to fight the coronavirus pandemic, the foreign ministry said on Thursday, as international pressure mounts against Myanmar's military leaders following a coup.
- New Delhi had sent 1.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Myanmar last month as part of a broader diplomatic effort to deepen ties with its neighbours before the military overthrew and detained elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

23536. North Korea to receive AstraZeneca vaccines from India, reports say
- North Korea is on a list of low-income nations that are to receive shipments of COVID-19 vaccines through the World Health Organization's COVAX Facility, despite ongoing claims of "zero" cases of the novel coronavirus.
- According to the COVAX Facility on Wednesday, the Kim Jong Un regime, which has championed "self-reliance" economically, is to receive 1,992,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the first half of the year, South Korean news services Dailian and Seoul Economic Daily reported .
- The vaccines will arrive in batches. According to Seoul Economic Daily, the North is expected to receive about 35% to 40% of the shipments in the first quarter of 2021, and the remainder in the second quarter.
23537. China steps up vaccine diplomacy as competition with India heats up
- China offered to supply vaccines to COVAX even as it awaited emergency approval for its shots from the World Health Organisation (WHO). China on said it would provide 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to the global COVAX initiative as it seeks to step-up its vaccine diplomacy amid projections from experts that India could become the "engine" for the distribution of the jabs to the world.
- Beijing had announced that it would supply three lakh vaccines to Sri Lanka after New Delhi dispatched five lakh doses to Colombo. China has also offered its vaccine supplies to Nepal, Maldives and Brazil, which has already received the first batch of supplies from India.
- South Africa has received one million doses of Covishield vaccine produced by the Serum Institute of India in Pune as India moved to use its vaccine diplomacy to shore up its global image, putting it in direct competition with China, Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on Wednesday.

- Under the ‘Vaccine Maitri‘ (vaccine friendship) initiative, India has planned to export shots to neighbouring countries in order to address their shortfall. The initiative began on 20 January and India has so far provided vaccines to Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Seychelles, Algeria and Mauritius.

23539. राजस्थान में बन रही 5KM लंबी हाईटेक 8 लेन ट्विन टनल, जानिए सबकुछ
- दिल्ली-मुंबई एक्सप्रेस-वे (Delhi-Mumbai Expressway) राजस्थान के 7 जिलों अलवर, भरतपुर, दौसा, सवाईमाधोपुर, टोंक, बूंदी और कोटा जिले से होकर गुजरेगा. भारतमाला प्रोजेक्ट (Bharatmala Project) के तहत बन रहे इस एक्सप्रेसवे का 104 किलोमीटर लंबा हिस्सा राजस्थान के कोटा जिले से होकर गुजरेगा
- यह एक्सप्रेसवे राजस्थान के कोटा के मुकुंदरा हिल्स टाइगर रिजर्व (Mukundara Hills Tiger Reserve) से भी गुजरेगा. इस एक्सप्रेसवे के कारण टाइगर रिजर्व एरिया के जानवर परेशान ना हो, इसके लिए पहाड़ियों के नीचे से टनल बनाने का प्रोजेक्ट शुरू हो गया है. 8 लेन की यह ट्विन टनल करीब 5 किलोमीटर लंबी होगी.
- जीवों की सुरक्षा को देखते हुए पहली बार एनएचएआई एनिमल कॉरिडोर बना रहा है. टनल पर रिकॉर्ड 1200 करोड़ रुपए खर्च किए जाएंगे. इस टनल की लंबाई सामान्य टनल से तीन गुना ज्यादा होगी. टनल मुकंदरा हिल्स में 5 से 10 मीटर की गहराई में बनाई जाएगी. यह टनल टाइगर रिजर्व एरिया शुरू होने से करीब 500 मीटर से शुरू होगी और रिजर्व एरिया खत्म होने के बाद 500 मीटर तक जाएगी. माना जा रहा है कि यह राजस्थान की सबसे लंबी टनल होगी. इसमें करीब 2 हजार करोड़ रुपए खर्च होंगे. टनल का काम 2023 तक पूरा किया जाना है.
23540. 'Say thank you to India for the vaccine, Mr President' demands SA law firm
- A law firm is demanding that President Cyril Ramaphosa apologise to the nation for failing to thank the Indian government and the Serum Institute of India for the first batch of Covid-19 vaccines.
- Kirshen Naidoo and Company, which has offices in Durban, Gauteng and the Free State, said in a letter addressed to the President that it acts for “various citizens and organisations” in the country.
- Due to the Indian government and the institute’s generosity, SA has received its first batch of vaccines that are desperately needed to combat Covid-19.
