761. Rice exports cross record $11 bn in FY23
- India’s rice exports have crossed a record $11 billion in 2022-23, an increase of 16% from FY22. The volume of shipment, however, remained around the same level as last year at 21 million tonne (MT).
- Officials attribute the spike in rice exports to factors such as robust global demand, especially from West Asian countries, Africa and Europe, and flood that hit a large chunk of paddy crop in Pakistan, a major grain exporter.
- In FY22, India, which has an around 45% share in global rice trade, exported more than 21 MT of rice valued at $9.6 billion. The increased realisation in rice exports has been achieved despite India last year banning broken rice shipment and the imposition of exports tax of 20% on white rice.
- In terms of volume, Bangladesh, China, Benin, Nepal and Iran are five major export destinations for rice. Geographical Indication (GI) tagged basmati rice is a premium variety cultivated in the Himalayan foothills, mostly in Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.

762. Indian oilmeal exports increase 167% in January 2023
- Indian oilmeals exports are reported to have increased 167% in January following an increase in the export of mustard seed meal, soya bean meal and other oilmeals.
- The total oilmeals exports recorded a growth of 69.6 per cent during the first several months of the fiscal year 2023. The growth in the exports of the oilmeal is estimated to be a record as the country has managed to become one of the major exporters of oilmeals in the world.
- Based on the data from the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA), the country has exported around 4.72 lakh tonnes of oilmeals in the month of January 2023 as against the exports in January 2022 which was barely around 1.76 lakh tonnes.
- At present, India is the most competitive exporter of mustard seed meal to Vietnam, South Korea, Thailand and certain Far East Countries.

763. Indian Onion exports jump 49% in April-Dec on demand from S-E and West Asia
- India’s fresh onion exports jumped 49 per cent in volume to 1.72 million tonnes (mt) and gained 15 per cent in dollar terms at $394 million during the first nine months of the current fiscal compared with the same period a year ago on robust demand from South-East Asian countries and West Asia.
- The Agricultural and Processed Food Exports Development Authority (APEDA), which has taken several steps including the creation of an Onion Export Promotion Forum.
- The shipments for the financial year 2022-23 will exceed last year’s levels on higher supplies and rising demand from key buyers such as Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia among other countries.
- India, which accounts for about a fourth of the global onion output, is the third largest exporter after Netherlands and Mexico.

764. Spice exports doubled in the last nine years, tweets Piyush Goyal
- Spice exports from India have doubled in the last nine years, reaching the value of Rs 3,995 crore in the fiscal year 2022-23 from Rs 1,778 crore in 2013-14. The Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal took to Twitter to share the achievement of the spice industry.
- The data from the Ministry of Commerce reveals that spices from India were exported to over 165 countries in the fiscal year 2022-23. Among the top export destinations of Indian spices are Bangladesh, UAE, Morocco, Netherlands, Germany and the USA amongst others.
- India is the world’s leading producer of spices, producing 15.31 lakh tons of spices in the years 2021-22 and 2022-23. The data is sourced from the Spice Board of India, the statutory body under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
- The spice industry in India mainly comprises a large number of rural MSMEs primarily located in the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Assam, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal.

765. Chilli exports from India crossed Rs 10,000 cr in 2022-23
- The chilli exports from India crossed 10,000 crore mark during 2022-23 due to the massive demand from the global markets. As per reports, the state of Andhra Pradesh was the leading producers of chilli’s. Around 50 per cent of the stock was exported from the state in 2022-23.
- The unexpected rains and floods during last November-December damaged chilli crop in many districts of the state. The crop output was reduced by at least 30-40 per cent leaving farmers worried over facing huge losses. Luckily, a booming export market brought cheers to the faces of farmers.
- The prices in retail market have continuously hovered around 20,000 per quintal, which is an all-time high in recent history. The average price farmers fetched last year was around 10,000-12,000 per quintal. In fact, a price not less than 8,000 per quintal is said to be remunerative to recover the costs.
- High prices in the export market helped the traders as well as the farmers. The total volume of exports witnessed a fall of nearly 40,000 tonnes when compared to last year’s exports. The chilli exports were steadily going up from India due to the demand from European countries, China, Sri Lanka and the USA.

766. India’s coconut product export doubles in four years
- India’s coconut product export has witnessed rapid growth this year. As per reports, the country has exported coconut products worth Rs 3554.23 crore in the financial year 2022-23, which translates to a hike of Rs 318.23 crore when compared to the previous year, 2022.
- The export value has also doubled in the past four years. In FY 2019-20, the country had exported products worth Rs 1762 crores.
- In terms of quantity and value, activated carbon produced out of coconut shells topped the chart with an export of a total of 1.5 tonnes worth Rs 2369.76 crore. This accounts for about 66.65 percent of the overall export value.
- The import of coconut products has been the lowest in five years in FY 2022-23. It is learnt that products worth Rs 457 crore were imported to the country, which is much lower than that of previous year. Of this, a majority accounted for copra expeller cakes and desiccated coconuts.

767. भारत का सोयाबीन खली निर्यात 16% बढ़कर 21 लाख टन हो गया
- भारत से सोयाबीन का आटा (सोयाबीन मील) निर्यात 2023-24 तेल वर्ष में 21 लाख टन तक पहुंच गया है, जो पिछले वर्ष की तुलना में 16 प्रतिशत की महत्वपूर्ण वृद्धि दर्शाता है। यह वृद्धि मुख्य रूप से ईरान, बांग्लादेश और नेपाल से मजबूत मांग के कारण हुई है, जैसा कि एक व्यापार निकाय द्वारा बताया गया है।
- अक्टूबर 2023 से सितंबर 2024 की अवधि में सोयाबीन का आटा निर्यात 21.28 लाख टन तक पहुंच गया, जो पिछले सीजन में दर्ज किए गए 18.36 लाख टन से एक महत्वपूर्ण वृद्धि है। यह जानकारी सोयाबीन प्रोसेसर्स एसोसिएशन ऑफ इंडिया (SOPA) द्वारा प्रदान की गई है।
- SOPA के कार्यकारी निदेशक डीएन पाठक ने बताया, "ईरान, बांग्लादेश और नेपाल से भारतीय सोयाबीन आटे की बढ़ती मांग 2023-24 तेल वर्ष में इस उल्लेखनीय वृद्धि का मुख्य कारण थी। भारत के कुल निर्यात में पिछले वर्ष की तुलना में लगभग 16 प्रतिशत की वृद्धि देखी गई। इस उच्च मांग ने सोयाबीन का अधिक पेराई और उत्पादन बढ़ाने में मदद की।"
- मध्य प्रदेश देश का एक प्रमुख सोयाबीन उत्पादक राज्य है। SOPA के अनुसार, ईरान ने 4,15,182 टन, बांग्लादेश ने 3,02,731 टन, जर्मनी ने 1,06,434 टन, और नेपाल ने 1,92,951 टन सोयाबीन का आटा भारत से आयात किया है। इस प्रकार, भारत की सोयाबीन मील का निर्यात न केवल बढ़ रहा है, बल्कि यह विभिन्न देशों के लिए एक महत्वपूर्ण उत्पाद बनता जा रहा है, जिससे कृषि क्षेत्र में भी सकारात्मक प्रभाव पड़ रहा है।

768. India’s tea exports continue upward trend, cross 257 million kg in FY 2024-25
- India’s tea exports grew by 2.85% in the 2024–25 financial year, reaching 257.88 million kilograms, up from 250.73 million kilograms in the previous year, according to the Tea Board of India.
- North India led the surge, with exports rising by 8.15% to 161.20 million kg in FY 2024–25, compared to 149.05 million kg a year earlier. The country currently has around 2.3 lakh registered small tea growers.
- The upward momentum was also reflected in the value of tea exports, with the average price per kilogram climbing to Rs. 290.97—an increase of 12.65% over the previous year’s Rs. 258.30—resulting in higher overall realisations for exporters.
- To boost production and global brand visibility, the Indian government—through the Tea Board—has introduced a range of initiatives aimed at supporting both large estates and the growing number of small tea growers (STGs), who now contribute nearly 52% of total production.

769. India exports 775k tonnes of sugar during 2024-25 marketing season: AISTA
- India is estimated to have exported 7.75 lakh tonnes of sugar in the marketing season that ended September, trade body AISTA said on 12 October 2025, urging the government to announce an early export quota for the new season.
- The sugar marketing season runs from October to September. Sugar exports for the 2024-25 marketing season in India were allowed on January 20, 2025. The total quantity permitted for export was 10 lakh tonnes.
- About 21,000 tonnes of raw sugar were delivered to the refinery in SEZ, considered to be deemed exports. Of the total exports undertaken so far, maximum shipments have been to Djibouti at 1.46 lakh tonnes, followed by Somalia at 1.35 lakh tonnes, Sri Lanka at 1.34 lakh tonnes, and Afghanistan at 75,533 tonnes.
- AISTA, which pegged sugar export to be about 8 lakh tonnes for 2024-25, has provisionally placed the actual exports at about 7.75 lakh tonnes for the February-September period of this year.

770. HAL, GE ink deal for supply of engines to power Tejas
- On November 7, 2025, Bharat signed a $1 billion deal with America’s General Electric for the procurement of 113 jet engines to power the indigenous Tejas Mark 1-A fighters.
- The GE-F404 engines will be delivered to the defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) between 2027 and 2032.
- Earlier this week, HAL also signed an MoU with Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (PJSC-UAC) to jointly produce the SJ-100 passenger aircraft in Bharat for the first time, marking a major step towards boosting indigenous aircraft manufacturing.
