541. India’s Civil Aviation Sector Hits Major Milestone With Over Half Of Airports Now Powered By 100 Per Cent Green Energy
- Over 50 per cent of operational airports in India have transitioned to 100 per cent green energy, the Parliament was informed on Thursday (27 March). The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) revealed that 87 (around 55 per cent) out of 159 airports are now fully powered by green energy, including solar and wind power.
- 87 airports out of 159 operational airports i.e. approx. 55% of operational airports have achieved 100% usage of Green Energy.
- The airport operators including Airports Authority of India (AAI) have installed solar power plants at various locations or airports for generation and self-consumption of green and renewable energy to encourage green energy usage at the airports.
542. Delhi’s IGI Airport ranked 9th busiest globally in 2024
- Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi has been ranked ninth among the world’s busiest airports in 2024, handling 77.8 million passengers. This marks a 7.8 per cent increase from 2023 and a 13.6 per cent rise compared to 2019, indicating strong growth.
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the United States claimed the top spot on the Airports Council International (ACI) World list, having served over 108 million passengers last year, 2024.
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the United States topped the Airports Council International (ACI) World list in 2024, handling over 108 million passengers, followed by Dubai and Dallas Fort Worth airports.
- Delhi’s IGI Airport has climbed to the ninth spot, driven by expanding airline operations, upgraded infrastructure, and improved global connectivity. ACI forecasts global traffic will reach 9.9 billion passengers in 2025.
543. Delhi Airport joins global 100-million club with expanded capacity
- Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has reached an annual passenger-handling capacity of 109 million, placing it among a select group of airports worldwide.
- According to data from the Official Airline Guide and airport operators, only six airports globally fall into the 100-million-plus category. IGIA achieved this milestone in May 2023 following the full operationalisation of Terminal 1 and closed 2024 with the expanded capacity.
- Apart from Tokyo Haneda, it is the only Asian airport in the group. The airport is operated by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL). Plans are being considered to rebuild and modernise Terminal 2 to further increase overall capacity.
- India’s aviation sector has expanded significantly over the past 11 years under national programmes such as PM GatiShakti, the National Logistics Policy, Bharatmala, Sagarmala, and UDAN. The number of airports in operation has risen to 162, including heliports and water aerodromes, compared with 74 in 2014.
544. PM Modi inaugurates Navi Mumbai International Airport, India’s largest greenfield airport project
- Indian Prime Minister on 8 October 2025, inaugurated the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), a ₹19,650-crore greenfield project aimed at enhancing air connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Western India.
- Developed under a Public-Private Partnership, NMIA is operated by Navi Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd.—a joint venture between Adani Airports Holdings Ltd (74%) and CIDCO (26%). As India’s largest greenfield airport, it will complement the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
- The project aims to ease congestion at the Mumbai International Airport and position Navi Mumbai as a global aviation and logistics hub. Located at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai, about 37 kilometres from South Mumbai, NMIA is spread over 1,160 hectares (2,866 acres).
545. Andhra Pradesh cabinet clears ₹20,444 crore investment push, aims to create 1 lakh jobs
- On On December 11, 2025 in Vijayawada, the Andhra Pradesh cabinet approved ₹20,444-crore development proposals, including Amaravati infrastructure, E3–NH connectivity, 506 drinking-water projects, IT campuses in Visakhapatnam, PCB manufacturing in Nellore, and revised estimates for Palar river check-dam reconstruction.
- Chief Minister led the meeting, directing ministers to improve punctuality and file clearance. The cabinet advanced projects by SIPB, approved industrial land allotments, upgraded teaching staff, and cleared new tourism, energy, and port-related facilities through systematic approvals and revised incentives.
- Key clearances included a 6-GW ReNew Photovoltaics plant, 300-MW wind-solar hybrid project, clean-energy storage units, 10-TPD biogas plant, language-pandit and PET upgrades, hotel proposals by Westin and Hilton, and a 1,000-sq-yard house site plus ₹2.5-crore incentive for cricketer N. Sree Charani.

546. Indian Railways install solar-powered CCTVs to curb stone-pelting, boost safety in remote areas
- On December 12, 2025 it was reported that, Railways has installed 165 solar-powered CCTVs in various locations, mostly rural, under East Coast Railway (ECoR) jurisdiction where conventional power supply is not available, while installation of 1,142 such cameras is underway.
- The move, according to railway officials, is primarily aimed at monitoring individuals pelting stones at trains and at ensuring better protection of railway property and its staff.
- Waltair installed 113 cameras (115 more in procurement); Khurda Road installed six (1,027 upcoming); Sambalpur installed 46. ECoR operates five surveillance drones—two each in Khurda Road and Waltair, and one in Sambalpur—to enhance monitoring and safety.
547. India boosts maritime industrial ties with Brazil during Admiral Tripathi’s visit
- On December 12, 2025, in Rio de Janeiro, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi visited the Itaguai Naval Complex, received a ceremonial welcome, and was briefed on Brazil’s PROSUB submarine programme as part of his official Brazil visit from December 9–12.
- Admiral Tripathi, meeting Brazilian leaders including Celso Amorim and Defence Minister Jose Mucio Monteiro, strengthened cooperation through discussions on defence industry collaboration, training exchanges, maritime security frameworks, capacity building, and joint operational mechanisms.
- Engagements highlighted convergence in shipbuilding, Aatmanirbharta, secure supply chains, MDA, and global maritime stability. Talks also covered Indo-Pacific and South Atlantic dynamics, reinforcing India–Brazil partnership under “Bridges of Friendship” to enhance maritime capability and strategic alignment.
548. Semicon India clears 10 projects worth ₹1.6 lakh crore
- On December 12, 2025 it was reported that, Under the Semicon India Programme, ten units with ₹1.6 lakh crore investment were approved across India, supporting silicon fabs, SiC fabs, advanced and memory packaging, and meeting chip needs of sectors like automobiles, telecom, aerospace, and consumer electronics.
- The Government enabled semiconductor growth through PLI schemes, DLI support, design tools for startups, and national training programmes. Support included EDA access, chip design funding, industry partners like Lam Research, and expanded academic courses to build a skilled workforce.
- Electronics manufacturing grew from ₹1.9 lakh crore in 2014–15 to ₹11.32 lakh crore in 2024–25; exports rose from ₹38,000 crore to ₹3.26 lakh crore. PLI attracted ₹14,065 crore for mobiles and ₹846 crore for IT hardware by October 2025.

549. GIGABYTE Launches Local Motherboard Manufacturing in India to Boost ‘Make in India’ Vision
- On December 12, 2025 GIGABYTE officially commenced local production in India through contract manufacturing, marking a major milestone in its long-term commitment to the country’s technology sector under the Government’s Make in India initiative.
- GIGABYTE leaders Dandy Yeh and Eddie Lin confirmed the move, emphasizing local manufacturing, rigorous quality standards, and an efficient supply chain to deliver high-performance products quickly and reliably to Indian consumers.
- Production began with motherboards, with plans for monitors and laptops. Local manufacturing aims to reduce import dependency, improve logistics, enhance affordability, and open opportunities across enterprise, government, and public sectors.
550. CSIR-NAL and SDAL Successfully Tests Long-Range Loitering Munition UAV With AI-Enabled Navigation
- On December 12, 2025 it was reported that, India successfully field-tested a 150-kg Loitering Munition UAV and solar-powered High Altitude Platforms in New Delhi, marking a major advancement in indigenous defence technology to strengthen surveillance, reconnaissance, and precision-strike capabilities.
- CSIR-NAL and Solar Defence & Aerospace Ltd developed the systems using indigenous propulsion, AI-enabled autonomous navigation, GPS-denied capability, solar-powered long-endurance flight, and high-altitude pseudo-satellite design to enhance operational performance.
- The LM-UAV offers a 900 km range, 6–9 hour endurance, 5 km service ceiling, low radar visibility, and precision-strike ability. HAPs operate above 20 km with solar-powered, weeks-long endurance for surveillance, communication, and disaster support.
