181. India’s Home-Grown Astra MK-2 Missile Aims Beyond 200 km
- On 30 January 2026, DRDO in India advanced preparations for a landmark flight trial of the Astra MK-2 missile, targeting a beyond-200 km strike range for next-generation air combat capability.

183. Gujarat cabinet approves Rs 2630 crore 8-lane Ahmedabad-Mehsana Highway project
- On January 28, 2026, the Gujarat Cabinet has approved a Rs 2,630 crore project to widen the 51-km Ahmedabad–Mehsana Highway into an eight-lane corridor, a move aimed at easing congestion on one of the busiest arterial roads connecting Ahmedabad with north Gujarat.
- The project covers the 51.60-km stretch from Adalaj to Palavasna Circle in Mehsana and is expected to benefit commuters and residents across Mehsana, Patan and Banaskantha districts.

184. Avantel Signs MoU With HAL For Defence Technologies
- On 30 January 2026, at Wings India 2026, Avantel Limited and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) signed an MoU to collaborate on advanced defence communication and avionics technologies.
- The partnership between HAL’s Strategic & Logistics R&D Centre and Avantel focuses on joint development of HF systems, satellite communication, and avionics solutions for defence applications.
- Avantel specialises in satcom, radar, embedded signal processing and defence software, aiming to strengthen indigenous defence electronics and support evolving requirements of India’s armed forces.
185. Rs 38,000 Cr Spent on National Highways in J&K Over Five Years, Parliament Informed
- On January 29, 2026, the Centre informed the Lok Sabha that it spent ₹37,851 crore over five years on National Highway development and maintenance in Jammu and Kashmir, with spending rising sharply after 2020–21.
- The government said 976 km of National Highways were added in J&K in five years, focusing on widening, tunnels, and all-weather connectivity in hilly and remote areas.
- Parliament was told that J&K recorded 8,920 highway accidents and 1,508 fatalities in five years, leading to targeted safety measures and expanded use of Advanced Traffic Management Systems.
- Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), which include AI-based video incident detection and electronic enforcement tools, have already been installed along about 19,000 km of National Highways nationwide
186. ISRO in final phase of maiden Gaganyaan launch
- On January 30, 2026, ISRO in India entered the final phase of the maiden uncrewed Gaganyaan mission, completing over 8,000 ground tests ahead of a planned March 2026 launch.
- ISRO, under an Integrated Mission Review Committee, validated propulsion, crew module, avionics and software systems through extensive simulations, environmental testing, and qualification trials.
- The mission will carry humanoid Vyommitra to ~400 km low-Earth orbit for three days, testing life-support, re-entry and recovery systems before future uncrewed and crewed missions.
187. Miranda House, DRDO develop Made-in-India chip that warns soldiers of heart attacks
- On January 29, 2026, Miranda House College in New Delhi and DRDO unveiled a Made-in-India BioFET biological chip prototype that warns soldiers of impending heart attacks by detecting risky cardiac biomarkers.
- Miranda House researchers, led by Prof. Monika Tomar, with DRDO, created a portable BioFET sensor that analyses three blood biomarkers simultaneously from serum to alert users when levels indicate elevated cardiac risk.
- The device supports point-of-care use like a glucometer, took about five years to develop, costs 50–60% less thanks to in-house fabrication, and is now in DRDO trials before potential military adoption.
188. KPI Green Energy starts power supply from 200 MW RE project in Gujarat
- On January 29, 2026, KPI Green Energy commenced power generation and supply from its 200 MW solar power project at Khavda Solar Park, Gujarat, after successful grid synchronization and initial injection into the state grid.
- The project, executed by KPI Green Energy Ltd under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), uses a grid-connected 200 MW AC / 240 MW DC solar installation to feed clean energy into the network.
- Khavda’s favourable irradiation (~2 060 kWh/m²) and sunny climate support efficient generation; the project is among the first commissioned within the 1.8 GW GSECL Solar Park and will contribute to renewable capacity and revenue stability.
189. Mizoram gets independent NCC group headquarters, focus on youth discipline and integration
- On January 29, 2026, Mizoram inaugurated its independent National Cadet Corps (NCC) Group Headquarters in Aizawl, establishing a dedicated local command instead of being managed from another state.
- The Chief Minister of Mizoram inaugurated the NCC Group Headquarters, supported by the state government and NCC North Eastern Region authorities, creating a new administrative structure to run NCC activities and enhance local planning.

190. Ladakh LG inaugurates civil aviation infrastructure project in Leh
- On January 28, 2026, a civil aviation infrastructure project (Parallel Taxi Track) was inaugurated at Air Force Station, Leh, to improve runway efficiency and air connectivity in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
