1851. Assam: Pobitora wildlife sanctuary sees record tourist turnout and revenue boost
- On May 28, 2025, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam’s Morigaon district reported a surge in tourist arrivals for the 2024–25 season, welcoming nearly 35,000 visitors, including 650 foreigners, and generating Rs 62 lakh in revenue, surpassing last season’s 30,000 visitors and Rs 54 lakh.
- The season, running from October 15, 2024, to May 31, 2025, saw a 14% increase in footfall, attributed to improved infrastructure like repaired internal roads, enhancing the experience at the sanctuary known for its high density of one-horned rhinos.
- Concurrently, in Udalguri district, Aaranyak’s conservation initiative, backed by the SBI Foundation, is restoring 100 hectares in Bhairabkunda Reserve Forest with one lakh native saplings to curb human-elephant conflict by re-establishing ecological corridors.
- The ongoing third-year plantation drive, involving 510 saplings from 11 indigenous species recently planted, collaborates with forest officials and local communities to promote sustainable wildlife habitats and reduce elephant encroachments.

1855. Meghalaya: Foundation for Rs 51.82 lakh water harvesting project laid in North Garo Hills
- On May 26, 2025, Meghalaya CM laid the foundation for the Rs 51.82 lakh Koknal Water Harvesting Structure at Rangmangre, North Garo Hills, under the Climate Adaptive Community-Based Water Harvesting Project to store rainwater for irrigation during scarcity.

1856. Meghalaya CM unveils Tura Secretariat design, announces Rs 150 cr allocation

- On 27 May 2025, In a major push towards Atmanirbharta (self-reliance), Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the Execution Model for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme .
- The AMCA clearance marks a critical step towards realising India’s goal of joining an elite club of nations in designing and producing its own fleet of next-generation combat aircraft.

1858. 8 Arunachal students from remote villages crack Sainik School exam with Army-led coaching initiative
- On May 26, 2025, eight students—five girls and three boys—from remote Sarli and Daporijo villages in Arunachal Pradesh cleared the Sainik School entrance exam, thanks to an eight-month coaching program by the Indian Army’s Spear Corps.
- The initiative, under the Spearhead Division, trained 33 border village students with academic coaching, mentorship, study materials, and logistical support, culminating in the exam on April 5, 2025, in Itanagar.

1860. India overtakes Japan to become world’s 4th largest economy
- On 25 May 2025, India has overtaken Japan to become the world’s fourth-largest economy and is now poised to surpass Germany to claim the third position within the next 2.5 to 3 years, according to NITI Aayog
- We are the fourth-largest economy as I speak. We are a USD 4 trillion economy, and this is not my data—it’s IMF data. India today is larger than Japan,” said Subrahmanyam during a press conference following the 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting.
- The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in its World Economic Outlook report released earlier this month, stated that India is set to become the fourth-largest economy in 2025. India’s nominal GDP is projected to rise to $4,187.017 billion, surpassing Japan’s estimated $4,186.431 billion.
- This rapid growth is expected to push India’s GDP to $5,584.476 billion by 2028, enabling it to overtake Germany and become the third-largest economy.
