1561. Ministry of Railways Approves New Railway Line in Odisha
- On July 21, 2025, I was reported that, the Ministry of Railways approved a 4th railway line between Ranital Link Cabin and Bhadrak (Odisha), spanning 5.06 km and costing ₹149.32 crore. Situated on the busy Howrah–Chennai line, the project aims to decongest traffic and improve punctuality.
- The new line will segregate freight and passenger traffic, streamline connectivity to Paradeep and Dhamra ports, reduce headway, and boost sectional speeds—enhancing operational efficiency across the corridor.
- With rising industrial, agricultural, and passenger traffic, the project aligns with East Coast Railway’s vision of a high-efficiency, future-ready rail network in Odisha meeting global standards.
1562. Sugar Exports from India May Cross 900,000 Tonnes by September End
- On 21 July ,2025 It was reported that, India, the world’s second-largest sugar producer, exported an estimated 650,000–700,000 tonnes of sugar between January 20 and mid-July 2025, following the Centre’s decision to allow exports of 1 million tonnes.
- White sugar prices in the global market (London) had peaked at USD 555 per tonne in late February but have since declined to around USD 484 due to improved supply. In contrast, Indian sugar is priced at USD 430–450 per tonne domestically.
- “Exports are expected to reach 800,000 tonnes by the end of September,” said Deepak Ballani, Director General of the Indian Sugar and Bio-Energy Manufacturers’ Association (ISMA). Meanwhile, Prakash Naiknavare of NFCSF estimates that total exports could go up to 900,000 tonnes.
- Looking ahead, the 2025–26 sugar season appears promising due to favourable monsoon conditions and better cane planting across Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh.

1563. India’s core sector growth rises to three-month high of 1.7% in June
- India’s core infrastructure sector grew to a three-month high of 1.7 per cent in June, up from 1.2 per cent in May, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on 21 July, 2025.
- In June, coal output fell 6.8%, electricity and natural gas declined 2.8% each, while crude oil and fertiliser dropped by 1.2%. In contrast, refinery products (3.4%), steel (9.3%), and cement (9.2%) posted positive growth.
- Overall April–June FY25 core sector growth slowed to 1.3%, down from 6.2% last year. The Index of Core Industries, which includes 8 sectors, accounts for 40.27% of India’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP).

1564. India becomes global leader in fast payments as UPI processes 18.39 billion transactions in June: IMF
- On July 20, 2025, India has emerged as a global leader in fast payments, with the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) processing over ₹24.03 lakh crore through 18.39 billion transactions in June, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) .
- In 2023, UPI had recorded 13.88 billion transactions. The rise to 18.39 billion this year marks a sharp 32 per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth.Currently, UPI powers 85 per cent of all digital transactions in India and nearly 50 per cent of all real-time digital payments globally
- The platform currently serves 491 million individuals and 65 million merchants, connecting 675 banks through a single unified system. The IMF report highlights that India’s success is the result of years of digital groundwork and a strong vision to leverage technology for inclusive growth.

1565. India’s agricultural exports surge in Q1 FY26, rice exports lead
- On July 20, 2025, it was reported India's exports of agricultural and processed foods got off to a great start in FY26, growing 7 per cent year-on-year to $5.96 billion in the April–June 2025 quarter
- The centre-piece of India's agricultural exports is still rice. The shipments of both non-basmati and basmati rice increased by 3.5 per cent to $2.9 billion in Q1.
- The surge follows the government's decision to remove export controls, including the minimum export price, in late 2024 in response to abundant stock and record harvests, the reports highlighted.

1566. India’s tea exports continue upward trend, cross 257 million kg in FY 2024-25
- On July 20, 2025, India’s tea exports grew by 2.85% in the 2024–25 financial year, reaching 257.88 million kilograms, up from 250.73 million kilograms in the 2024, according to the Tea Board of India. The latest data marks a second consecutive year of strong global demand for Indian tea, renowned for its distinctive quality and flavour.
- North India led the surge, with exports rising by 8.15% to 161.20 million kg in FY 2024–25, compared to 149.05 million kg a year earlier. The upward momentum was also reflected in the value of tea exports, with the average price per kilogram climbing to Rs. 290.97 an increase of 12.65% over the previous year’s Rs. 258.30—resulting in higher overall realisations for exporters.
- India ranks among the top five tea-exporting nations worldwide, contributing around 10% to global exports. The country’s celebrated varieties—Assam, Darjeeling, and Nilgiri—are particularly favoured in overseas markets.

1567. India’s auto exports surge 22 per cent in Q1 on strong global demand
- On July 20, 2022, it was reported that India’s automobile exports grew by 22 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in the April-June 2025 quarter of the current financial year (Q1 FY26), according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
- According to the report, this strong growth was driven by record shipments of passenger vehicles, along with solid performance in two-wheelers, commercial vehicles, and three-wheelers. In total, India exported 14,57,461 vehicles across all categories in the first quarter, up from 11,92,566 units during the same period the 2024.
- Passenger vehicle exports reached an all-time high of 2,04,330 units in the April-June quarter marking a 13 per cent increase compared to 1,80,483 units exported in the same quarter last year.

1568. India's electronics exports jump 47% in Q1; US, UAE, China top destinations
- On July 20, 2025, it was reported that India's electronics exports surged by 47% to $12.41 billion in April-June 2025-26, with the US, UAE, and China as top destinations, signaling India's rise as a global manufacturing hub. Ready-made garment exports also increased, driven by strong demand from the US, while marine exports saw a significant boost, again with the US as the primary importer.
- The US, UAE, and China have emerged as the top three export destinations for India's electronics sector during April-June quarter of 2025-26, according to the commerce ministry data
- The US remains India's largest export destination, commanding a 60.17 per cent share, followed by the UAE (8.09 per cent), China (3.88 per cent), the Netherlands (2.68 per cent), and Germany (2.09 percent).
- India's RMG sector, a key pillar of the textiles industry, recorded a 10.03 per cent growth during FY25 at USD 15.99 billion compared to USD 14.53 billion in FY24. Similarly, marine exports grew by 19.45 per cent to USD 1.95 billion during April-June 2025 this fiscal.

1569. ‘BrahMos chhota bhai’ Sher AK-203 rifle to go fully desi by year-end: Indo-Russian Rifles CEO
- On 18 July 2025, IRRPL CEO Maj Gen SK Sharma confirmed that the AK-203 assault rifle, set to be the Indian Army’s frontline weapon, will be fully indigenous by end of 2025. So far, 48,000 rifles have been delivered under a ₹5,200 crore Make in India deal at Korwa, Uttar Pradesh.
- With 50% indigenisation completed, the company plans to deliver 70,000 rifles by 2025-end and complete all 6 lakh rifles by December 2030, 22 months ahead of the original deadline. From 2026, the factory will produce 12,000 rifles/month.
- Known as ‘Sher’ in India, the AK-203 replaces INSAS rifles along LoC and LAC. It’s backed by 100% Transfer of Technology from Russia, has 180 sub-parts, and is tested entirely in India. IRRPL also plans exports and expansion to other Kalashnikov platforms by 2032.
1570. India's tea exports rise 2.85% to 257.88 million kg in FY25: Tea Board
- On 19 July 2025, official data revealed that India’s tea exports rose by 2.85% in FY 2024–25, increasing from 250.73 million kg to 257.88 million kg, with North India contributing 161.20 million kg, up 8.15% from the previous year.
- While North India’s exports grew significantly, South India’s exports declined by 4.92%, falling to 96.68 million kg in FY 2024–25. However, average export price rose 12.65%, reaching Rs 290.97/kg.
- From January–December 2024, total tea exports rose by 10.57%, reaching 256.17 million kg, with North India exporting 155.49 million kg and South India 100.68 million kg, both showing 10–11% growth over the previous year.
