1. Udupi Cochin Shipyard wins Rs1,100 crore order for dry cargo ships from Norway’s Wilson ASA
- Bergen, Norway, based short sea fleet operator Wilson ASA has placed an order for eight 6,300-ton dry cargo vessels valued at about Rs1,100 crores at Udupi Cochin Shipyard Ltd, a wholly owned unit of Cochin Shipyard Ltd.
- The contract awarded in June 2023 for six 3,800-ton dry cargo vessels is being followed up for their advanced construction at the Udupi yard in Karnataka.
- European ship owners have placed orders worth some $750 million at Indian yards to replace an ageing coastal fleet in the face of tough environmental regulations in Europe.
- The orders will be executed within September 2028. Wilson runs a fleet of around 130 vessels ranging from 1,500 to 8,500-ton vessels, transporting about 15 million tons of dry cargo across Europe.

2. Indian Naval Ship Tabar Reaches Alexandria, Egypt
- As part of her ongoing deployment to Africa and Europe, the Indian Navy‘s frontline frigate, INS Tabar, arrived at the historic port city of Alexandria, Egypt, for a goodwill visit from June 27 to 30, 2024.
- India and Egypt have enjoyed a rich legacy of cultural relations and economic ties for several centuries. The bonds have continued to grow stronger in modern times, and in recent years, bilateral relations between the two countries have expanded across various sectors, including defense and maritime cooperation.

3. This Indian EV maker to set up new plant in Maharashtra, already has two in Tamil Nadu
- Ather Energy plans to establish a new manufacturing plant in Bidkin, Maharashtra, to manufacture electric two-wheelers and battery packs.
- Ather plans to expand its manufacturing operations in India, with the Aurangabad facility becoming its third, following its existing two facilities in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
- While the Hosur facilities will continue to produce battery packs and vehicles, the Aurangabad unit will allow Ather to rationalise logistic costs and fasten the delivery of finished products to customers.
- According to data from the industry body Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA), Ather's retail sales increased 41.53% to 108,889 units in FY24 from 76,939 units in FY23.

4. Odisha govt approves renewable energy projects worth Rs 903 Cr
- Odisha government approves Rs 903.41 crore in renewable energy investment proposals, aiming to meet 10 GW by 2030, according to the Energy Department's single window committee.
- HPCL Renewable & Green Energy Ltd has been approved for a 48-MW wind energy project in Umerkote, Nabarangpur, while ONGC Tripura Power Company Ltd has been granted permission for a 49.5-MW project in Astaranga, Puri.
- The Energy Department's SWC has approved investment proposals totaling Rs 3,723.57 crore for two wind energy projects with a capacity of 499.48 MW.

5. High-speed expendable aerial target 'ABHYAS' successfully completes development trials
- DRDO completed six development trials of 'ABHYAS', a High Speed Expendable Aerial Target, demonstrating system reliability after 10 trials from the Integrated Test Range in Odisha.
- ABHYAS has successfully completed 10 development trials, demonstrating the system's reliability, according to a statement.
- The trials were carried out with improved Radar Cross Section, Visual and Infrared augmentation systems. During the trials, various mission objectives covering safe release of booster, launcher clearance, and endurance performance were successfully validated, it said.
- ABHYAS, designed by DRDO's Aeronautical Development Establishment in Bengaluru and developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Larsen & Toubro, offers a realistic threat scenario for weapon systems practice.

6. Centre Approves ₹ 700 Crore To Set Up Institutes Of Pharma, Medical Technology
- The Central government has earmarked ₹ 700 crore to set up centres of excellence at the National Institutes of Pharmaceutical, Education & Research (NIPER) over the next five years to boost pharma and medical technology in the country.
- Of the ₹ 700 crore, a sum of ₹ 243 crore has been approved for 2024-25, according to a notice issued by the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers.
- The research will encompass various fields such as medical device manufacturing, bulk drug R&D, phytopharmaceuticals, biological therapeutics, and antiviral and antibacterial drug discovery and development.
- The DoP requested ₹ 1,286 crore for FY24, with 560 crore for NIPERs and remaining for new initiatives under the NIPER scheme, including NIMERs, Centres of Excellence, ICPMR, and Promotion of Research & Innovation.

8. ENGIE Signs PPA for 200 MW Solar PV Project With GUVNL
- ENGIE, a leader in low-carbon energy solutions, has announced the signing of Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a 200 MW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) project. The 200 MW Solar PV project marks ENGIE’s fourth solar project in the state of Gujarat.
- The project is part of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited’s (GUVNL) larger project encompassing 1,125 MW grid-connected Solar PV power projects, to be established within the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation’s Renewable Energy Park situated at Khavda, Gujarat.
- ENGIE expands Gujarat's renewable energy capacity to 830 MW, bolstering its position in the state's renewable energy landscape, with 19 projects strategically located across India.
- GUVNL is preparing for a 36,000 MW increase in power demand due to industrialization and increased consumption in retail and residential sectors. The state is expected to remain among the top three in renewable energy additions.

9. Central zone installs first-ever floating solar plant of Indian Railways
- The Central Railway has installed a floating solar plant of 10 MWp capacity in the Igatpuri lake located in the Western Ghats, a first-of-its-kind initiative by the Indian Railways, senior officials said.
- According to the Central Railway officials, the plant is committed to leveraging renewable energy sources, utilising solar power, installing wind-energy resources, providing adequate passenger amenities and contributing significantly towards the railways' goal of a "green Earth".
- Central Railway has commissioned 12.05-MWp solar plants on rooftops of stations and buildings, with 4-MWp plants provided last year to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2030.
- According to the Central Railway, agreements have been signed for the utilisation of 325 MW of solar and wind energy, which will be on the "round-the-clock" basis.
