111. Indian Railways’ connectivity boost in Northeast! First Janshatabdi Express between Manipur-Tripura introduced
- Indian Railways’ connectivity boost in Northeast: The first Janshatabdi express train connecting the northeastern states of Manipur and Tripura via Assam was flagged off on January 8, 2022.
- With the introduction of the Jiribam – Agartala – Jiribam Express, the long-standing demand of the people of Manipur, Tripura and South Assam was fulfilled.
- According to the Railway Ministry, rail journey by Jiribam – Agartala – Jiribam Janshatabdi Express will cut down the travel duration by half as the time of train journey will be around six hours, covering a distance of 300 Kilometres against approx. 12 hours time it takes to go by road.
- There was no direct train between the northeastern states of Manipur and Tripura and only one train runs in the morning hours between Agartala and Silchar.

112. First goods train chugs into Manipur 75 years after independence
- A freight train chugged into the Rani Gaidinliu Railway Station in Goinanglong of Tamenglong district, thereby putting Manipur on the country’s railway map.
- The train arrived as part of the Jiribam-Imphal railway project with the station renamed in honour of freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu.
- The new rail link enables faster and more affordable movement of goods, improves access to markets for local businesses, reduces reliance on road transport, lowers traffic congestion, generates employment.

113. Nagaland Gets Its 2nd Railway Station After A Gap Of Over 100 Years
- Nagaland on Friday got its second railway station after a gap of more than 100 years with the commissioning of a new facility at Shokhuvi.
- Dimapur Railway Station, in the heart of the commercial hub of the state, was inaugurated in 1903. Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh will be directly connected by train service with the extension of Donyi Polo Express till Shokhuvi Railway Station.
- The Donyi Polo Express ran daily between Guwahati in Assam and Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh. The train service has now been extended till Shokhuvi, a few kilometers from Dimapur.

114. Northeast gets its first Vande Bharat train
- Prime Minister flagged off northeast region’s first Vande Bharat Express virtually on Monday. The train will connect Guwahati in Assam with New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal and the journey will take five-and-a-half hours.
- Earlier, the fastest train on the route took six-and-a half hours to cover the distance of nearly 400 km.
- 2014, the average Railway budget for the northeast was about ₹2,500 crore, which has grown to more ₹10,000 crore in the current year, which is a four-fold increase. “Now, the capitals of Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Sikkim are being connected to the rest of the country.
115. NFR completes girder launch on world's tallest railway pier bridge
- The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has achieved a major engineering feat with the successful completion of girder launching on Bridge No. 164, popularly known as the Noney Bridge, which is part of the Jiribam–Imphal railway line in Manipur.
- The bridge, touted as the world’s tallest railway pier bridge, features piers P3 and P4—each standing at a height of 141 metres—surpassing all other railway pier structures globally. It is a key component of the 111-km-long Jiribam–Imphal railway line project, aimed at improving connectivity in the North Eastern region.
- The Jiribam–Imphal railway project is regarded as one of the most critical infrastructure projects in the Northeast. The 55.36-km Jiribam–Khongsang section was commissioned in September 2022 and currently facilitates goods train services carrying essential commodities to Khongsang.
- The bridge features a span configuration of 1x71.5m + 5x106m + 1x71.5m + 1x30m, designed to ensure both stability and durability in the region's difficult terrain and seismic-prone environment.

116. Rajdhani Route in Northeast Goes Electric, Boosting Speed and Green Connectivity
- In a landmark achievement, IRCON International Limited has successfully completed the electrification of the entire Rajdhani main route through the Lumding and Tinsukia divisions, following the completion of statutory inspection and full-sectional speed trial on the crucial Dibrugarh–Duliajan section.
- The 62 Route KM and 93 Track KM Dibrugarh–Duliajan section of Tinsukia Division underwent its final statutory inspection Monday by principal chief electrical engineer (PCEE) Sandeep Kumar, conducted in the presence of divisional railway manager (DRM) Tinsukia Parag Katre.
- The achievement comes under the ambitious RE PKG-6 Project through which IRCON has commissioned an impressive 480 Route KM and 624 Track KM of Overhead Equipment (OHE) work across the region.
- This extensive electrification network now enables trains to operate on 25kV electric traction throughout the route, marking a major step forward in Indian Railways' commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly infrastructure development.

117. After 26-year wait, Mizoram's capital Aizawl to be connected with Indian Rail network
- The inauguration of the 51.38 km Bairabi–Sairang railway line in June has brought Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, onto India's national rail map. The project, initially conceived in September 1999, has overcome extraordinary hurdles including rugged terrain, landslides and limited working seasons.
- On July 13, 2025, After 26 years 51.38 km Bairabi- Sairang broad gauge railway line is finally connected to Bharat’s railway network through the newly completed Bairabi-Sairang line.
- Featuring 48 tunnels, 55 major bridges including the towering 104 metre high Bridge and 87 minor bridges.

118. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi inaugurates CBDC-based Food Subsidy Distribution programme in Puducherry
- On February 27, 2026 the Union Government launched the Central Bank Digital Currency-based Food Subsidy Distribution pilot under PMGKAY in Puducherry, introducing digital currency-based Direct Benefit Transfer for food subsidy distribution.
- Minister of New and Renewable Energy Govt of India inaugurated the initiative, implemented with the Government of Puducherry, RBI, PFMS, and Canara Bank, crediting RBI-issued CBDC tokens to beneficiaries’ digital wallets for exclusive purchase of entitled foodgrains.
- The scheme, piloted in Ahmedabad and Puducherry, will next expand to Chandigarh and Dadra and Nagar Haveli before nationwide rollout; it aims to ensure transparency and efficiency, while the government reports over 25 crore people lifted from multidimensional poverty in eleven years.

119. Gujarat Budget: ₹500 crore allocated to 'Wire-Free City Mission' for underground cabling in state
- On February 26, 2026, the Gujarat Government announced a ₹500 crore provision to convert overhead power lines into underground cable networks across Municipal Corporations and Municipalities under the Gujarat Wire Free City Mission.
- The Gujarat Government, through the Chief Minister’s Office, will implement the phased underground cabling project to ensure uninterrupted, safe power supply, reduce disruptions, prevent electrical accidents, and support essential services in densely populated urban areas.
- The mission aims to make cities “Wire-Free” and Commonwealth- and Olympic-ready; meanwhile, ₹650 crore Mukhyamantri Nirmal Gram Yojana operates in 667 villages across 12 districts, promoting sanitation, waste management, and public health under Swachh Bharat Mission incentives.

- On February 27, 2026 it was reported that Tripura surpassed 8 MW of solar power generation under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, boosting rooftop solar adoption across the state as an alternative to gas-based power shortages.
- Biswajit Basu, Managing Director of TSECL, stated that 2,350 consumers installed rooftop solar panels under the scheme, generating over 8 MW collectively, with government subsidies supporting installations and enabling grid-connected micro power generation.
- A total of 2,053 consumers received ₹17.27 crore in subsidies; TSECL targets 50 MW solar capacity by 2027, while many households report zero electricity bills and earn additional income by supplying surplus power to the grid.
