441. Rooftop solar plants commissioned at 148 stations across South Western Railway
- On December 24, 2025, South Western Railway (SWR) of Indian Railways commissioned rooftop solar photovoltaic plants at 148 railway stations Karnataka and parts of Goa, including major hubs like Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) Bengaluru, Hubballi, Mysuru, Dharwad, Belagavi, Hosapete, Gadag and Ballari, as part of its renewable energy expansion.
- This initiative supports Indian Railways’ goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 by harnessing clean energy and reducing reliance on conventional power SWR has systematically increased its cumulative solar capacity to 7,491.6 kWp through regular maintenance, new installations, and performance monitoring across infrastructure assets.
- In FY 2025–26 up to October, the solar systems generated 4.13 million units of clean power, saving approximately ₹2.61 crore in electricity costs following 6.86 million units and ₹4.07 crore saved in FY 2024–25, while additional renewable use via open access power procurement at 36 traction substations further reduced energy costs and conventional energy dependence.
442. Indian Railways expands AI system to cut wildlife deaths on tracks
- On December 24, 2025, Indian Railways announced the expansion of its AI-based Intrusion Detection System to reduce wildlife deaths, especially elephant fatalities, on railway tracks.
- The system uses AI-enabled cameras and a Distributed Acoustic System (DAS) to detect animal movement near tracks and sends real-time alerts up to 0.5 km in advance to train drivers and control rooms.
- After successful operation on a 141 km stretch of the Northeast Frontier Railway, the technology will be extended by 981 km, taking total coverage to 1,122 route kilometres across vulnerable and forested railway sections.
443. PM Modi conferred Saudi’s highest civilian honour

449. Defence Minister launches BRO manual to streamline strategic road construction

450. PM-KUSUM: Sahaj Solar Gets ₹125 Cr Loan from IREDA For Solar Projects Across Four States
- On 18 December 2025, Gujarat‑based Sahaj Solar signed a loan agreement with the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) to secure a ₹125 crore medium‑term loan to fund its participation in India’s PM‑KUSUM solar programme.
- The company will use the funds to install 15,000 solar pumps under PM‑KUSUM Components B and C, and to execute 300 off‑grid SPV plant projects across four states — Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Punjab — boosting clean energy access for agricultural and rural users.
